I jump up in shock and cling to a nearby window blind for protection.
I thought they said he’s in a coma; why is he suddenly wide awake?
In panic, I observed my supposed husband on the bed; although he was wide awake, he still had the cold expression he had while in a coma.
Just then, someone knocked on the door, and I rushed to open the door, eager to have another person in the room besides my vegetative husband.
“I think the young master is awake; he has opened his eyes.”
The young maid gave me a disdainful look before answering me, “You shouldn’t be playing around here; this is not some fun park for kids.”
"But I wasn’t playing around; I just saw him open his eyes before your knock came.”
“Take care of the young master and stop being so jumpy.”
The maid was about to leave when I suddenly drew her back. “Please, can I get another place to sleep in? I don’t think I can sleep in here.”
“If you want the young master’s family to demand their money back, you can go ahead.”
What money is she talking about?
The nanny saw the shock on my face and eyed me sternly. “I guess you’re not aware that your family sold you to the young master for a very huge sum.”
"Like I said, you are no different from a maid in this house. The only difference is that you’re solely here for the young master’s needs.”
My eyes were suddenly teary. I knew that my parents were capable of a lot of things, but I never dreamed that they could stoop so low to sell me out.
That night, she made up her mind to be happy regardless of everything that was coming. After washing up, she laid beside her unconscious husband, but sleep was not coming.
She has always imagined her wedding night to be a very memorable one, but here she is in bed with a lifeless man who might never see what she looks like till he dies.
She tossed and turned in frustration, wondering why sleep was not coming.
Finally, she drifted into a restless sleep and found herself engulfed in very strange dreams.
When she woke up, her body was sore, and she felt aches all over her body.
She suddenly hears a knock on the door. The woman at the door was older than the one from last night, and she appeared more composed too.
She gave her an impatient glare. “Are you still sleeping by this time?”
"I didn’t know I was supposed to wake up earlier," she stuttered.
“Hurry up; the rest of the family are waiting for you downstairs to serve them their breakfast.”
On hearing this, she became shocked. The maid of last night had said that she was contracted for the young master’s needs alone; why then are they demanding to be served by her?
She quickly wiped her brows and stood up to adjust her nightdress.
Downstairs, her eyes caught the wavering eyes of Benjamin's family members.
They were all seated around the dining table and immediately glanced towards the staircase when they heard her footsteps.
The older maid was kind enough to have brewed the tea. She only needed to serve it to them. She walked carefully towards the table and greeted them politely, careful not to make eye contact with any of them.
They drank their tea in silence and only looked at her when she asked to take her leave.
“You’re now part of the family and should be here with us.”
I smiled weakly at him. I could tell he was Benjamin’s father. He looked exactly like him, but older.
After speaking, he motioned for her to sit in an empty seat directly opposite his own seat.
She smiled weakly and sat down quietly, careful not to offend the others who glared at her like some sort of outcast.
“Jane, I would want you to always be by Benjamin’s side. I would appreciate it if you took really good care of him.”
She nodded in response. His smile was contagious, and it had the ability to melt the toughest of hearts.
He put down his teacup and said, “I will make sure that nobody treats you unfairly in this family. When Benjamin wakes up, you both should be ready to give me a grandson.”
What is he saying? Didn’t they say that he only has a few months to live? When will he wake up to have a child with me?
Why does he seem so confident about his recovery?
“Mrs. Joan will explain Benjamin’s daily routine to you; make sure to adhere to it."
After breakfast, she was led to the master’s bedroom by Mrs. Joan.
“You will have to rest now. I need to tidy up the house, and I will be back to direct you on what to do.”
She heaved a sigh of relief as Mrs. Joan closed the door behind her exiting figure.
Suddenly, there was a whimpering sound from the bed, and she turned and saw him lift his hand a little.
As soon as she opened the door, she bumped into the approaching figure of Mrs. Joan.
“Madam, where are you going? You were meant to stay here till I return.”
“I think the young master is awake; he moved his hand just now!”
The woman ignored her and went to the bed to examine the person sleeping on the bed.
"Here's the young master’s to-do list.”
Jane picked up the file and grinned at how much work a man in bed who was unconscious needed.
She had to wash him up and change his clothes early in the morning; every one of the duties was arranged in order of their performance.
“Am I supposed to bathe him by myself?”
“Of course, it’s one of your duties as his wife.”
She had never seen a naked man’s body, and suddenly her cheeks flushed at the thought of seeing Benjamin’s.
Although he was sick, Benjamin had a breathtaking figure; she could tell he was handsome when she mistakenly leaned into him the night before.
“He’s indeed handsome; it’s a pity I would be able to stealthily touch him, but he won’t be able to do the same.”
As usual, Benjamin was motionless in the water, and only her stirring caused ripples in it.Jane wiped his body and smiled at how taut his body felt under her palm.Suddenly, his hand moved and she eyed him in shock“If you're going to wake up, why don’t you just do so?”After helping him into the bed with the assistance of the male servants, she laid down beside him, totally worn out from the bath.“If you’re lucky to survive this, you will surely reward me for stressing me so much,” she threatened. Her aches were back, and it bothered her.She lay down to rest on this particular day after giving her unconscious husband a massage, but a knock on the door abruptly interrupted her.“Madam, the young master’s mother wants to see you.”Jane frowned. Does she have to come now that she’s almost exhausted? It is true that she was eager to meet her mother-in-law, but it was definitely not when she was in dire need of rest.In the sitting room downstairs, her mother-in-law scanned her as she
Agony coursed through her, and her hand instinctively reached for her throbbing head, searching for any hint of swelling. It was a searing pain, the kind that made her question whether she had really said, "I do."Ken, on the other hand, displayed a cold indifference to her suffering. He didn't offer a hint of remorse, only a cynical laugh at her clumsiness. She was enraged by his calamitousness. And then an unexpected surge of strength welled up within her. With a fiery determination, she rose up from the bed, lunging angrily at Ken. "You fool," she seethed, her eyes blazing. "Don't you ever dare to lay a hand on me again."A mysterious sound coming from Benjamin's bed abruptly ended their argument. They both froze, their quarrel momentarily forgotten as they turned to gaze in his direction.Benjamin had awoken, his eyes flickering in the dim light cast by a solitary bulb in the room. His sudden consciousness sent a shockwave through the atmosphere, and Ken, in a panicked frenzy, bolt
Her heart was beginning to pound terriibly against her chest; she fought to even maintain composure while he vented his anger at her.“Do you think someone like you of a low background can be my wife?”She knew she wasn’t fit to be his wife, and if she were given a choice, she wouldn’t have accepted.“You can also forget about what my father said about wanting a grandson from you; it will never happen, not even in a thousand years. What makes you think you can even carry my child?”He sizes her up immediately and returns his gaze to her pale face.“Wake up from your dream, you golddigger." He fires at her, making her flinch at the hurtful words. She knew she was not close to the women he had things to do with in the past. They were definitely classic women from renowned elite families; she was a no-body, and she clearly accepted that from the onset. He should quit with the reminder already. She was aware that Mr. Leonard personally arranged the marriage and that the wife had no role
Chapter SixJane scanned the ruin caused by her supposed husband and boss. She wouldn't dare address him as her husband anymore, not since he woke up from his slumber. He could kill anyone who dares to address her as his wife. Not like she was bothered. She was better off single than staying married to a man as mean as Benjamin Forster. But she couldn't ask for a divorce yet, not while Benjamin's father was away. He would never forgive her if she left him without his consent. She would endure everything till he returns, hopefully, he will grant her request and she would go back to her little dungeon. Her mind filters the mess before her and she resorts to cussing him silently.“He's intentionally doing all of these to piss her off” she thought to herself. The room was now in order, wiping sweat off brows with the base of her palm. She paused to observe what she had done so far. Satisfied with her work, she took a fake bow before strutting out of the room into the kitchen. She knew her
BEN'S POV He couldn't understand why all he ever thought about was how to hurt her. This morning, he had felt a pang of something in him, an unexplainable emotion when he saw her talking with his brother in the kitchen. An unknowing smile crossed his face as he visualized what his decision to divorce her would do to her.He was tired of enduring her presence and even though his father was against him divorcing her, he would make her an offer, a very mouth-watering one and in turn have her do his bid. It was the only way to keep his father from getting angry at him."Sir, she's not in the Villa" the maid's shaky voice announced. His eyes roamed the sitting room before resting on her shaky form."And who permitted her to leave?"The timid maid opens her mouth, but suddenly shuts them up and instead lowered her head in fear.“Tell her to see me once she returns” The servant bowed in politeness before scurrying away.Benjamin's presence was the worst place for anyone to be in.His cold d
JANE' POVShe looked around and suddenly realized that she had been dreaming. The icy cry was from her dream. She rubbed vigorously on her eyes as sleep tended to overtake her. It was almost time for dinner and she knew Benjamin wouldn't spare her if she delayed. She swayed back and forth until she stumbled into a rigid form before her."Have you suddenly become too clumsy not to see what's in front?" He mocked, pushing her off his body. She staggered before regaining her balance."I'm sorry, sir. I…" He waved her off before she could finish the statement "You can save your excuses for someone who has a need for them."She ran towards the kitchen in a flash, suddenly feeling overwhelmed by a chilly movement around her bowel. Her mind flashes back to moments ago when she was forced to wash Benjamin's car under the rain. The sudden change in her body system could be as a result of rain that fell heavily on her.She ignored the feeling and went ahead with preparation for dinner.Even tho
BEN's POVAt this point, he was speechless, he knew he was supposed to be excited at the news. If she was pregnant, it would be easier to get her out of the house since he's sure that the pregnancy is not his.“Doctor, don't you think you're too hasty with the conclusion. You should run a test on her first” I asked, throwing a cold glance at Jane. All this while, dad seems to have a smile plastered on his face. I wouldn't blame him. It has always been his wish to have a grandchild, except that this time his joy is going to be shortcut.“Doctor, what are you saying? I have never…..” she quickly cuts herself off, not before I notice the tiny hint of embarrassment in her voice. There was no need for the pretense. Her type was always shameless and he was going to prove this to everyone once a proper check up is conducted on her.“Have you had your period this month?” the doctor asked .She hesitates before shaking her head in response.“I will take a sample of her blood for the test, be r
JANE'S POVEven though she was certain that the result would turn out to be negative, she still felt anxious. Her whole body ached badly and she also had mild fever. She has been struggling to get some sleep since the doctor declared her pregnant. Suddenly, she remembered an old technique her grandma always used on her whenever she had trouble sleeping, she will try it out. Hopefully she will get some sleep afterwards. She was almost dozing off when she heard the door open and madam Joan was standing beside her with a package in her hands.“I got you some pain-reliever for the pains and fever” I took the pill from her hand and was about to gulp it down with the glass of water in my hand when another wave of nausea hit me.Mrs. Joan noticed this and asked “Madam, are you okay?”“Ugh! It's nothing serious. Just a little discomfort in my stomach”Mrs Joan frowned, “Doesn't look so to me. Have you had your period this month?”If she was insinuating that I was pregnant, she might as well
