~Storme~

For the first time in a long while, I allowed my wolf overpower my other side.

For weeks I’d been keeping her caged, swallowing back the urges that rose whenever Marcellus’s voice grated or Theo’s scent burned in the air. Now, standing at the edge of the royal woods, I let the cage door swing open.

Grace stood a respectful pace behind me, eyes downcast.

“I’ll hold these,” she said softly, reaching for my robe.

I untied the sash and handed it over, baring my skin to the brisk breeze. “Stay here,” I murmured. My voice shook a little with anticipation.

“Yes, Your Highness.”

I closed my eyes and let the shift come. It rolled over me like liquid fire. Bones elongating, muscles rearranging, skin pricking as silver fur erupted. For a moment there was pain, and then freedom. When I opened my eyes again, the world was brighter, and sharper.

I was my wolf; the large silver she-wolf whose coat glinted like stars in the moonlight. Grace’s breath caugh

~Storme~It was now three days to my twentieth birthday. Three days until Theo finally sank his fangs into Karen’s neck in front of the entire Tribe and claimed her as his mate. The thought had grown into a stone lodged beneath my ribs. Every time I inhaled, it pressed harder, cutting off my breath. So I did what I had been doing for months now: slipping away from Grace, from Geniee, from everyone, to practice the magic I wasn’t supposed to know. Without Geniee’s gentle guidance the spells were clumsier, but at least they were mine alone. At least in the hidden corners of my mind, I wasn’t queen or mate or pawn. I was simply Storme, the girl with a secret birthmark and a fire she couldn’t name.Tonight, I decided to do something that I’d been wanting to do a long time ago. I decided to revisit the trances that I had during that time when Marcellus had locked me up in the dungeon. That particular vision where an old woman would always tell me to remember. I had to fi

  • Married to the alpha king, pleasured by his son    Chapter 120: The poison effect

~Storme~The bloody handkerchief slipped from his fingers and landed on the carpet with a soft thud. For a heartbeat my mind went blank. All the careful planning, the measured doses, the months of acting the dutiful queen; this was what I had wanted, wasn’t it? Marcellus dying slowly, his power crumbling with his body. And yet, faced with the sight of his blood, my hands trembled.I forced a gasp, pressing a hand to my mouth. “Your Majesty! What is it?” My voice rang high, convincingly panicked. “You’re bleeding!”He waved a dismissive hand, though his knuckles were white. “It’s nothing. The smoke. Must have been the smoke from the fire. My lungs…” He coughed again, weaker now. “Get me a cup of tea, Storme. It will settle me.”I was already at his side, sliding an arm around his shoulders. He was heavier than he looked, dead weight all from that fat in dropping down his belly. “Come. Let’s get you to the bed.”Supporting him felt surreal. This man who had dragged

~Storme~No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t stop watching them.Karen sat to Theo’s right. Her hand was looped possessively through his arm, nails painted the same deep red as the wine she kept sipping. Every time she leaned into him, her hair brushed his jaw. She didn’t even hide it anymore. She wanted me to watch. The king was in high spirits, clapping his meaty hands and telling stories from old hunts. He kept looking at me with a proud, proprietary gleam that made my skin crawl. Everyone seemed to know about the pregnancy now; whispers had become congratulations, congratulations had become speculation.Karen squeezed his arm as if to claim him in front of everyone. My wolf stirred inside me, restless. Jealousy slid hot and sharp through my veins before I could choke it down.I pressed my palms together under the table. Breathe. Smile. Endure. But then the birthmark on the back of my wrist began to tingle. It was faint at first, then a prickle, then a

~Storme~Gasps fluttered through the room like startled birds. Karen’s smug little smile deepened, her eyes glittering with triumph. She tilted her head toward him, already playing the part.“Theo and I made the decision after a heart-to-heart talk this evening,” Karen gushed, giggling. “He can’t wait to officially claim me and show me off to everyone as his.”As if every other person in this palace and within doesn’t know how she’d desperately thrown herself at Theo all these months. Then without warning, Karen grabbed Theo’s face and fused her lips to his lips. They stayed in that lip lock for what felt like ages to me. I couldn’t look away, neither could I stop the growing feeling in my chest that made my breathing feel constricted. He didn’t even make a move to move away from the kiss. I mean, he didn’t look like he wasn’t kissing her back, but he didn’t pull away either. He just stayed there, allowing Karen kiss him. Neither made me feel okay.“Hold it t

~Storme~The door shut behind Theo with a dull thud that sounded like a coffin closing.I stood in the middle of the room, perfectly still. My body was rigid, but my heart… my heart was in pieces. His words kept reverberating in my head, as if he had banged stainless against stainless and I couldn’t stop hearing the echoes.…You were a mistake…I had known he’d say something to wound me. I’d even prepared for it. But hearing it, feeling it tear through me, was something else entirely. I never expected it to hurt this much.I pressed my fingers against my stomach. Beneath my palm, my child — our child — shifted faintly, the smallest flutter reminding me why I’d done this. I never did this because I wanted to. It was because I had to. If I let myself fall apart now, everything I’d endured would be meaningless. My throat tightened. Tears burned behind my eyes, hot and insistent. They wanted to fall and to carve streaks down my face. But I needed my makeup was st
