Chapter 40: Never again

Dimitri and I are having a picnic in the central garden of the complex, we prepared sandwiches and lay a blanket over the grass to sit on. The weather is nice today, the sun is shining and there is almost no wind. We chat and laugh carelessly while we drink champagne. Dimitri starts to tell me about the time he spent in London and I hear him mesmerized.

“I wish I could go there someday,” I say with a thin smile.

“You’ve never been to London?” He asks surprised.

“I’ve never been anywhere except here… and a trip to Mexico once when I was a little girl. I was hoping to go to Europe this year but my father had other plans for me,” I say as I point to my wedding ring. “So traveling was no longer an option for me.”
