Chapter 2

Author: Anti-Trash Specialist
I stared at Cynthia's pale reflection in the mirror and spoke slowly. "Robin doesn't care which one of us he marries.

"He just wants to use marriage as a cover for an accidental death. That way, he'll receive the Powell family's shares, no matter who inherits them. So, we're basically sacrificial lambs."

Cynthia took a deep breath and exhaled a puff of smoke. "It doesn't matter which of us is the better choice. In the end, Robin is just going to slaughter us both."

"Exactly." I walked to the window and looked down at the well-maintained garden below.

"Cynthia, we've fought for two lifetimes. You're not an idiot. What do you plan to do?" I asked coldly.

"My dear sister." This was the first time she had called me her sister and actually meant it.

"I don't want the shares anymore, and I'm done fighting for the inheritance. However, I can't let this go. That bastard wants to kill us. We need to make him bleed for all the hurt he has caused us."

I held out my hand. "Deal."

In our previous lives, we were always the ones groveling for Robin Wright's attention. This time, however, Robin showed up in person.

He arrived with a team of bodyguards and expensive gifts such as wild truffles and caviar. His gifts had filled the Powell living room to the brim.

With his gold-rimmed glasses perched on his high nose, Robin looked sophisticated, elegant, and completely harmless. However, he was secretly a monster.

Robin tapped his long, slender fingers gently against the table and said warmly, "It seems like both Kathy and Cynthia are feeling shy.

"But the Wright family takes tradition seriously. When we find a destined match, we do not intend to let it slip away."

Dad looked at the gifts, then turned to glare at us. "Look how generous Robin is. And look at the two of you! You're making excuses for such a perfect marriage. Are you two trying to be difficult?"

"Please don't say that, Mr. Powell." Robin glanced at Cynthia and me and smiled.

"The ladies are younger than I am. It's only natural for them to have reservations. However, the Wright family has businesses across the globe.

"I have no interest in the Powell family's shares or assets. I value your daughters' impeccable character. The fortune-tellers have confirmed that our horoscopes are a perfect match. Our union will help ensure the Wright family continues to prosper."

Dad nodded, absolutely delighted. "Mr. Wright, you're right. My daughters are just naive and inexperienced."

Cynthia and I exchanged a quick look, both of us more confused than ever. If Robin wasn't after our fortune, then what was he after?

If he didn't care about our wealth, why did he add poison to my custard pudding in the first life? Why did he stage a car accident to burn Cynthia alive?

Murder was an expensive and risky task. There had to be a motive for the heir of the richest family in the city to go through such elaborate lengths to kill two women who posed no threat to him.

I couldn't think of any other reasons except for the massive financial gain. Was it possible we were standing in someone's way?

As I was lost in thought, a maid brought out a bowl of freshly made seafood risotto. It was steaming hot, the rich aroma filling the room.

But the moment the plate was placed in front of Robin, the polite smile on his face vanished, and he turned deathly pale.

He suddenly covered his mouth and nose, unable to suppress a gag.

"Haha! Kyle, so you're a coward. The moment things get difficult, you hide behind a woman. You're a pathetic loser. I must have been blind to ever believe your lies!"Robin summoned a final burst of strength and struck Kyle hard behind the knees. He collapsed to the ground. "You're crazy! Are you determined to destroy me?" Kyle screamed and lunged at her. Both of them began to scuffle on the floor. Every vow they had once whispered to each other had now curdled into a lethal curse. Nathan had heard enough. He kicked Kyle aside and ordered the bodyguards, "Bind these two shameful traitors up! As of this moment, Robin is no longer a part of the Wright family."Dad had been watching from the crowd, his body trembling violently. "Kyle, you… you bastard! I always felt like I owed you something. "I was going to leave you an inheritance so you could live in peace for the rest of your life. I didn't expect you'd be so cruel as to want Kathy and Cynthia dead. You ungrateful bastard!"

All eyes shifted instantly to Robin's abdomen. The soaked fabric clung to her body, her protruding belly exposed. Only a fool would fail to see that something was amiss, given the unmistakable curve and the heavy blood flow. The doctor's hands shook as he cut away her trousers. He looked bewildered at what he saw. "This… this isn't an injury. This is a major hemorrhage caused by a miscarriage!" Everyone exploded into a frenzy. "Miscarriage? Robin is a guy. How could he miscarry?""Holy shit! Is Robin a woman?"Nathan lunged forward and grabbed Robin by the damp collar. "Robin, explain yourself! What the hell is going on?" he asked in a trembling voice. Robin scrambled to shield her body with her hands, her eyes wide with terror as she looked at Kyle. "Get me out of here, Kyle! "Hurry, take me away. We need to go to the hospital. Everything will be fine once we get there."She was betting that Kyle would help her salvage this disaster for the sake of their unborn chil

In my previous life, Robin had used this exact same pretense to lure me to my death.I forced a shy nod and said, "Okay. I've prepared a gift for you as well."I followed her up to the top deck. The lighting was dismal, and the railing was trembling, as if it had been tampered with.Robin walked to the railing, her back to me. Her voice turned icy all of a sudden. "Look how deep the sea is. If you fell, you'd probably lose consciousness really quickly, wouldn't you?"Then, she spun around and tried to press a handkerchief that stank of ether against my face. I didn't even see it coming.Kyle, who was hiding in a corner, ran over and tried to hurl me over the railing. If this were the old me, I would have been paralyzed with fear. But since our rebirth, Cynthia and I had been secretly mastering self-defense. Before Kyle charged toward me, I suddenly dropped into a low crouch. His momentum sent him crashing straight into Robin. Her pregnancy made her unsteady on her feet, and the

The shop assistant scanned my purchase and replied, "Yeah. He said it was for his wife. It looked like he was in a real panic."I sneered inwardly. Kyle's wife? Well, Robin happened to be the eldest son of the Wright family— a man known to everyone in Jolenburg. "I'd like a box, too."I exited the pharmacy with the medication in hand and met up with Cynthia, who was hiding in a corner. "How did it go?" she asked anxiously. I passed her the box of medication and said coldly, "It's confirmed. That's progesterone to protect a fetus.""Why would a grown man need prenatal meds?" Cynthia took a deep breath, as if something had just exploded in her mind.Just then, a gust of wind caught the curtains of an apartment window. Through the narrow gap, I saw Robin. He had taken out his oversized coat and was wearing nothing but a thin, loose-fitting T-shirt. His side profile revealed a distinct, rounded chest and a soft curve in his lower abdomen.Kyle was kneeling in front of Robin

Cynthia was screaming in horror, but her grip on the reins remained loose. She let the horse bolt around and charge toward Robin. Time seemed to grind to a halt. Facing such primal danger, most people would instinctively shield their heads, cover their faces, or roll to the side to escape. However, Robin didn't protect his head or try to run. Instead, his body went rigid as he recoiled into a fetal position. His hands locked in a protective grip over his lower abdomen. Just then, someone lunged forward and shouted, "Robin, watch out!"Kyle charged in recklessly, pulling Robin into a tight embrace and using his back as a human shield to stand between Robin and the horse. Just as the horse was about to trample on Kyle, Cynthia yanked the reins tight. The black horse's front hooves flailed in the air before slamming back down, barely inches from the two men. The air was filled with swirling dust. Robin was deathly pale, trembling violently as he collapsed into Kyle's embrace. H

Cynthia and I stared at that ultrasound for five minutes in dead silence."Damn, Robin really does play the field, doesn't he? He likes both men and women?"Cynthia scratched her head and pointed at the name in the report. "Look. Robin was practically flirting with that illegitimate son. They're clearly secret lovers. And yet, he managed to get some woman pregnant on the side?" She added in disgust, "He's trying to trick one of us into being his wife to cover up his scandals and raise his bastard."I felt a nagging sense that something wasn't quite right, but that seemed like the most logical explanation thus far. After all, Robin was a man. He couldn't be the one pregnant. The most likely scenario was that he had brought someone to undergo the ultrasound scan. "It's disgusting." I rolled the report into a tight ball and said coldly, "So, to pave the way for his true love, Kyle, and give his bastard child a wealthy, legitimate mother, he was willing to sacrifice both of ou
