By the time I was done going through the documents, it was already late afternoon.

I needed a break, so I went looking for Chloe.

I found her sitting on the floor in the living room with crayons scattered around her.

"What are you drawing?" I asked.

She looked up at me and gave a cheeky grin.

"The baby."

I smiled and sat beside her.

"That's the baby?"

She nodded proudly. "He has big eyes."

I laughed. "How do you know it's a he?"

"I just know."

"That's very convincing."

I didn't want to dwell

When I got home, I found her exactly where she'd said she would be.On the couch. She was wearing one of my shirts and a pair of loose shorts, her hair tied into a messy bun. There were two pillows behind her back and another one beneath her feet. She looked comfortable and incredibly adorable. I stood in the doorway for a moment just watching her.She noticed me and immediately smiled."You're home.""I did say I'd try.""You actually tried!""Don't sound so surprised.""I've been married to you long enough to know better." She retorted. I walked over and bent to kiss her forehead."How are you feeling?""Fine."I gave her a look. She sighed. "Tired.""That's better.""And hungry.""That's even better."She frowned. "Why?""Because I was beginning to think you were being replaced by an alien."She slapped my arm lightly. "Go shower.""That's not how to welcome your man.""It is when you've been sitting in an office all day."I sniffed myself. "Do I stink?""Of course not.""Then wh

I didn't want her to worry. That was my continuous excuse even when I knew that it was unfair to not tell her that Rebecca was still hitting on me.I let it slide because I knew she was in her feelings as Ethan's memorial approached. With the whole dilemma I was faced with, I decided to confide in Theo. Him and Sonia were planning their daughter's first birthday, he was all over the place as the planner called him even more to pacify Sonia who in his words had become momzilla. Getting him to sit still and listen to my problems that weren't work related was a bit of a hassle but he eventually did. "You just have to tell Sloane.""How am I supposed to tell her that Rebecca comes to my office every other day and bawls her eyes out while telling me to love her? It's so awkward."He hesitated. "That really is an awkward position."I sighed, glad he finally got my point. "But for marriage to work, transparency is required. You've hidden enough from her already.""She's pregnant. I don'

She pushed a sheet of paper toward me. "Look."It was a drawing of three people standing beside a smaller person with a very large head.I pointed at it."Who is this?""That's you."I gasped. "Why is my head so big?" "Because you're having a baby."I stared at her, mouth wide open. "That makes absolutely no sense." I said after I recovered from the shock. She giggled and I found myself laughing too.

"Sloane Elaine Reed, why am I hearing from the grapevine that my own granddaughter is expecting my great-grandchild?!"I winced, immediately regretting my decision to take the call in the first place."It all just happened so fast," was my weak response."Right. Not only have I not met that husband of yours, you're about to have a child with him without informing me."Just as her voice went up a notch, she coughed."Grandma, are you okay?""I'm fine."She sounded more like she was insisting on it than actually feeling that way, but I decided not to pursue it. We didn't have the kind of relationship that enabled me to fuss over her without it becoming awkward for both of us."Back to you. When were you going to tell me? After the baby was born?""Maybe."I had to be honest.I wasn't even sure I was going to tell anyone in the first place. There had been too much happening in my life, and somehow keeping the pregnancy to myself had felt easier than dealing with everyone's opinions, ques

Juggling with handling a bigger company and expecting a baby wasn't necessarily what I planned for my first year of being properly married to Sloane.I thought we would be traveling most of the time and enjoying our new found love. But life had come with different plot twists. But the most comforting thing was having the woman of my dreams by my side, loving me as much as I loved her. I couldn't ask for more. I got home expecting her to be in her reading nook as usual after she made me drive a thirty minute distance to get her food from her favourite restaurant. These were the little things I had looked forward to and imagined doing for the longest time. I met her in the nursery as she saw to it that the workers had the right shade of beige she wanted for the room. Her frown morphed into a smile when she saw me. I couldn't help but mirror it."Did you get it?" She asked eagerly."Not even a kiss?" I asked with a fake frown. She stood on her tiptoe and kissed me quickly on the lips,

If anyone had told me only a year ago that I would be shopping for baby clothes and picking baby names for my own child, I would have crashed out.But alas, here I was, doing the things I thought would be impossible.I pushed the cart around gently, checking out the multiple unisex newborn clothes lined out on the shelf beside me. Maya had recommended that I buy gender-neutral colors since I mentioned that I wasn't sure if I wanted a gender reveal just yet. But then, I had also been itching to buy clothes and set up the nursery. "Hey," I jumped, startled at the sound of the familiar voice.I placed my palm on my chest."What are you doing here?" "You weren't home when I checked so I called your driver to know where you were and here I am."I looked at the time and it was only 2pm. "You closed early.""I missed my wife." I giggled, nuzzling him a bit. He claimed my lips instead. "How are you doing?" He asked, placing his palm on my bump. "I'm good."We shopped hand in hand. F

I woke up to my head pounding like someone was taking a hammer to it from the inside. My phone on the nightstand was lit up and buzzing in a way that communicated something had gone very wrong overnight, which I already knew, but seeing thirty seven missed calls from my secretary at eight in the mo

The dress was beautiful and I was walking down the aisle in it. The cathedral sleeves, the pearl buttons running down the back, the train sweeping the floor behind me like something out of a magazine. Cole had picked it himself and it was perfect and with every step I took I looked exactly like a

The post went live at 11:58 PM, and I watched the engagement metrics climb from my office with a drink in my hand that I sipped from slowly.Numbers didn't lie. Before I could keep track, the likes hit ten thousand in minutes and comments flooded in faster than the platform could organize them. Of

"You can't just move me into your house without asking."Zane didn't even glance at me as the car pulled up to the gates. The estate sprawled beyond them like something out of a fever dream. It had sharp angles, floor-to-ceiling glass. And it was perched on a cliff that overlooked the city like it
