Chapter 13 His Sleeping Face

That night, Natalie could not sleep at all.

It was not because she felt awkward sleeping in the same bed with her brother. But it was because she did not dare to sleep with a time bomb in the next room.

She did not close her eyes for the whole night. She got up very early and took the opportunity to cook breakfast for her brother.

That day, Howard was throwing a tantrum because he was worried about his sister. He looked like he was refusing to go to school.

When Natalie realized this, she lectured her brother. Eventually, Howard still went to school. But before he left, he glared at the door of his sister’s bedroom.

He knew that man did not leave yet. Was it really okay to leave his sister home alone with him?

Howard had a lot on his mind, but he still went to school because he could not argue with his sister. After he left, Natalie looked at the time. It was time for her to get to work.

But would John get mad for leaving him alone at home after he woke up?

She really did not want to provoke this t-rex anymore!

So, even if she did not have much time left, she still stayed there for half an hour patiently. However, the man still did not wake up.

She did not have much time. If she did not leave now, she would be late. When she thought about this, she finally pushed open her bedroom door.

She cracked open the door slightly and peeked inside. John was still sleeping soundly in the dimly lit room. Natalie hesitated before walking in carefully.

Natalie was a light sleeper so the curtains in her room were all black-out curtains. Hence, after pulling all the curtains close, the room would still be dark even if it was already daytime.

She walked over to John slowly in the dark.

Half of his handsome face was under the blanket and half of it was exposed.

His usual piercing eyes were closed tightly. His eyelashes were long and dense. When he closed his eyes, they landed on top of his face gently. They were even slightly curled.

This was the first time she saw him like this. This was completely different from how he was usually. He almost looked like a child.

She came in to wake him up, but she was stunned seeing him.

In the end, Natalie’s face heated up for no reason. ‘Never mind. I’ll just let him be.’

In this new place and a new bed, it was odd that he could even fall asleep.

Perhaps it was because of the sweet scent of this woman’s pillow. The smell was faint, and yet it was refreshing. He fell into slumber right after his head hit the pillow.

She did not sleep with him last night. John could guess this even without feeling it. He was just pretending to marry her. He did not intend to go all the way with her. Therefore, he did not mind whether she slept next to him or not.

He got up and looked at his watch. It was getting late.

He opened the door to go out and realized the house was empty. There were two luggage bags in the living room. Other than that, there was also breakfast and a note on the dining table.

In this day and age, anyone with a phone would not write a note anymore. Hence it felt it was rather interesting when he saw the note.

He picked it up and read it. The neat and tidy handwriting impressed him to raise his brows. Even though this woman’s personality was horrible, her handwriting was surprisingly not bad.

There were only a few words on the note, and it was straight to the point.

It said that her brother was at school and she had left for work. It also said that she had already packed, and she would move after she got off work. When he saw this, he looked at the two luggage bags on the side of the table.

They only had so little things?

Gosh, it was so little that it was almost sad.

However, he should not be focusing on this. He threw the note to one side and sat down.

Breakfast!

It was a simple meal. There was a plate of grilled dumplings, a fried egg, a sausage and a half glass of milk.

A man like him naturally did not like to drink milk. After picking up the chopsticks, he started eating the grilled dumplings. When he took a bite, the brows on his poker face lifted in surprise.

It was filled with Chinese water chestnut.

He did not know if she did this intentionally. How did she know that he liked this filling?

Plus, from the texture of it, they did not look like they were frozen dumplings bought from the supermarket. It was made fresh this morning.

His gaze landed on the luggage bags again. After staring at them for a while, he averted his gaze.

He felt that he should stop eating the dumplings, but in the end, he could not help but…

Finished everything.

She rushed to the hospital and Natalie looked like she had a lot on her mind for the entire day.

There were a lot of patients today, so she could hardly take a breather for the entire day. It went way past the time she was supposed to get off work.

When she realized it, Natalie changed out of her white coat and dashed out.

She accidentally ran into someone. As the impact was too great, she stumbled and fell into the person’s arms. She came back to her senses as she stood firm and apologized, “I’m sorry. I’m so…” Sorry.

When she lifted her head, the last word was stuck in her throat. She looked at the man who was holding her with one hand quietly. He had a disgusted look on his face. She regained her senses after a while.

She was still in his arms!

As soon as she realized that, her first reaction was to push herself away from him. However, the other party’s reaction was quicker than hers.

The way Luke Shears pushed her away was as if he wanted to build a barrier between them. “Why are you here?”

She had not seen him in eight years.

She had imagined the scene of them finally meeting. However, all the imagined scenarios felt more intense than this right now.

The more she wanted to handle this calmly, the more chaotic she felt.

She told herself to smile and be polite, but the words that came out of her mouth was sarcastic, “That’s hilarious. Why can’t I be here?”

After she said that, she knew that she had lost her grace by being rude.

Even if they could not remain friends after their break-up, there was no need for them to oppose each other with equal harshness. In addition to that, she thought that she did not hate him this entire time.

But in reality, she was not as forgiving as she would like to be.

“Are you following me?”

She really wanted to be the best ex in the country, but did this man know what he was talking about?

She smiled again. However, her smile was only on the surface. “I’m following you? Are you okay?”

“Do you think I’ll believe that you’re not following me on purpose if you use this attitude on me?”

When she heard that, Natalie scoffed. “This is the hospital. Did everyone here follow you too?”

“I don’t know all those people, but you…”

There was a hint of coldness in Luke’s handsome face. “I just came back from overseas yesterday and you ran into my arms today. Is this a coincidence too?”

“Whatever, Luke.”

Finishing her words, she turned around to leave. However, his cold voice swept across her heart like a blizzard. “Natalie, I’m marrying Jessica soon.”
