Chapter 6

Author: Foxy Whispers
Serena had abruptly leaned forward, and Cassian was greeted with a mesmerizing sight…

He could hardly breathe, and to make matters worse, Serena was staring alluringly at him. Her eyes almost seemed to beckon him, tempting him to come play with her.

Immediately, Cassian turned scarlet. He'd never seen anything like that before, and he was even more mortified when he felt his blood pooling in the lower half of his body.

Just as he was wondering how he could hide his reaction, he heard Serena asking, "Do you like me, cutie?"

Her voice was soft, sending a tingling feeling through his body and making him numb. It was impossible to resist someone as seductive as her.

Cassian turned around and fled the room.

"Don't go, cutie. I've got so many things I want to say to you…" Serena burst out laughing.

Out in the corridor, Cassian felt his face and realized his cheeks were flaming hot. He had to curse at himself for being such a coward. How humiliating it was that he'd allowed a woman to scare him off like that. Still, he had to admit that she was perfect in every way, be it her looks or her figure. At least, out of all the women he'd ever met, only Vera could compete with her.

However, Vera always had a stern expression that made her look like a block of ice. She was too unapproachable. On the contrary, Serena was like a fiery ball of passion who sent sparks with every flutter of her eyelashes. It was impossible to resist her. She was the downfall of every man.

Cassian took a few deep breaths, doing his best to compose himself. He had to come up with a way to handle this. He knew that if he went back to the nursing assistant station after failing to handle things with Serena, Sally would use it as an excuse to kick him out. If that happened, he would no longer have a shot at remaining at the hospital.

Therefore, he had to reenter the hospital room and get into Serena's good books. What should he do?

Cassian felt a headache coming on. He had no experience in this sort of thing.

"Oh, whatever. Let's just see what happens when I go back inside."

Steeling himself, Cassian entered the room once more.

"Huh? Why did you come back?"

Serena's eyes flashed with surprise when she saw Cassian coming in. Giggling, she asked, "Did you miss me already?"

Cassian couldn't stop himself from blushing again.

"Oh, my. You're so shy. What a cutie you are. Come on. Tell me what you want to do. I'll satisfy all your desires."

Looking at her, Cassian said, "I'd like to take a look at your leg."

"Whoa. You're an honest guy, alright, but I didn't expect you to be so lustful. Did you just ask to see my legs? You're making me blush!" Serena pouted in feigned shyness.

Cassian hastily explained, "Please don't misunderstand, miss. I just want to check on your wound."

Startled, Serena asked, "Aren't you trying to look at my legs?"

"Nope," Cassian denied.

After staring at him for two seconds, Serena chuckled. "You're not being honest, cutie!"

"I'm a nursing assistant. It's my duty to check on your wound and change the bandage if necessary," Cassian said solemnly.

"Oh, fine."

Serena lifted the blanket and revealed her right leg. Her calf was completely wrapped in bandages.

Cassian crouched down by the bed and carefully undid the bandage to check on her wound. It was four inches long and covered in stitches, looking a bit like a centipede. It wasn't a pretty sight.

It looked like fate was jealous of her!

Cassian felt a little disgruntled. To think such a pretty woman had to go through something this horrible. Fate was being so cruel.

"How did you get injured?" Cassian asked softly.

"I was in a car accident and broke my leg," Serena replied. "I plan on getting another surgery done in a few days."

"Haven't you already completed the surgery? Why must you go for another one?" Cassian asked doubtfully.

Based on his medical knowledge, she no longer needed any more surgeries.

"I'm rather vain. I don't want any scars," Serena replied with a chuckle.

Well, that explained things.

"My attending physician said that with how large my wound is, it'll be extremely difficult to get rid of the scar even with a second surgery. He hasn't found a solution yet either. If I can't get rid of the scar, then I won't be able to wear short dresses anymore. How sad."

As soon as Serena finished speaking, Eric Watkins, a middle-aged male doctor, came in with a group of interns behind him.

"How are you feeling today, Ms. Landon?" Eric asked with a friendly expression.

"I'm fine. Have you figured out a way to get rid of the scar, Dr. Watkins?" Serena quickly asked.

"I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you, Ms. Landon," Eric said regretfully, his smile fading. "I've consulted with a dermatology specialist. In your case, it's basically impossible to remove the scar completely. Even if you undergo another skin repair surgery, the scar can't be fully removed."

"Is there really no other way?" Serena pleaded, refusing to give up. "I don't care how much it costs, Dr. Watkins, as long as you can get rid of this scar."

"Money isn't the issue, Ms. Landon. Unfortunately, what you desire can't be accomplished with current medical technology."

Serena was greatly disheartened. For her, having such a glaring scar was akin to a fatal flaw that marred her perfection. Moreover, she cared a lot about her appearance.

For some reason, after seeing how upset she was, Cassian felt bad for her. Something in him made him say, "Actually, it's not completely impossible."

All eyes fell on him.

After glancing at Cassian, Eric asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm—"

Cassian was about to introduce himself when an intern behind Eric beat him to it. "He's Cassian York, Dr. Watkins. He's a nursing assistant."

"A nursing assistant?"

Frowning, Eric asked, "What did you mean with your earlier comment?"

Cassian quickly explained, "Dr. Watkins, for cases such as Ms. Landon's, there are still solutions available."

Eric's frown deepened as he asked, "It sounds like you have an idea."

"I do," Cassian said with a nod.

"What is it?"

"We can use a Madiora enchantment."

"Don't be ridiculous!" Eric snapped with a scowl. "In this day and age, I can't believe that someone would still bring up such mumbo jumbo. Are you trying to get yourself kicked out of the hospital?"

"Let me explain, Dr. Watkins. Madiora enchantments aren't mumbo jumbo. It's a profound field of mystic arts that can truly help remove Ms. Landon's scar for her—"

"Get out!" Eric roared before Cassian could finish speaking. "If you ever spew such nonsense again, I'll have you fired from your job as a nursing assistant!"

Why wasn't anyone believing him, even though he was telling the truth?

Cassian wanted to clarify himself, but after seeing the stormy look on Eric's face, he sighed and turned to leave. Just then, Serena called out, "Wait a second!"

"I'm so happy you're alright!" Fiona had a sweet, adorable smile on her face. After releasing her, Cassian glanced at Phantom's body before asking, "Now that the culprit is dead, Mr. Gulley, what do you plan to do next?""I'll gather the villagers and tell them what happened, so no one lives in fear anymore," Darren said. "We'll hold a collective funeral for Roy and the others so that their bodies can be reburied properly as well."As for this bastard…"Once his eyes landed on Phantom's body, he walked over and gave it two hard kicks. "We'll burn his body to avenge Roy and the others, so that they can rest in peace.""That's a good plan," Cassian said. "We won't stick around for that, Mr. Gulley. We'll head back to Rivershire at dawn.""That won't do." Darren shook his head. "You helped us uncover the truth behind what's been happening at Everstream, and you took out Phantom as well. I have to at least treat you to a meal.""We've already had several meals at your house, Mr. Gul

Peter and Hugh cried out in unison as she shot over to catch him.A triumphant smirk spread across Fiona's face. She picked up one of the poisoned needles and hid it in her right hand before heading over as well."How is Dr. York?" she asked softly."He's blacked out from the poison," Peter reported."Oh," Fiona responded coolly. As she eyed the unconscious Cassian, her expression frosty, she slowly raised her right hand. She was just about to strike when Darren called out, "D-Dr. York…"Fiona quickly brought her right hand to her ear and pretended to brush her hair with it.Soon after regaining consciousness, Darren spotted Cassian on the ground and asked, "What's wrong with Dr. York?""He fell unconscious after getting hit with poison," Peter said."What did you say?

If he did, Phantom would kill off Peter and the others.Fiona let out a cry of pain.Steadying himself, Cassian looked down and saw a needle stuck in her shoulder. He quickly pressed a few spots on her shoulder before holding his palm above the needle and channeling his inner energy to draw it out.He proceeded to remove the poison from her body as well."Peter, Hugh, keep an eye on Fiona and Mr. Gulley," Cassian said before turning around to look at Phantom. With a look of smug satisfaction, Phantom declared, "Now that you've been hit with my poisoned needles, you'll be dead in half an hour.""I'll kill you before I go down," Cassian said coldly.Phantom didn't even bat an eye. Instead, he laughed. "I advise you not to try to attack me. The moment you use your inner energy, the poison will rush into

Darren's blood-curdling scream immediately made Cassian, who was about to attack Phantom, pause and ask in a hurry, "What happened to Mr. Gulley?""Mr. Gulley got bitten by a cobra!" Fiona cried out in a panic. "He's fallen unconscious, Dr. York. It won't be long before he succumbs to the venom!"Shocked, Cassian had no choice but to give up on attacking Phantom and run to Darren instead. The instant he turned around, Phantom whipped out a triangular, yellow flag. He shook it forcefully, and a dozen poisoned needles shot out from the flag like deadly arrows.Cassian had barely reached Darren when he heard the needles whooshing through the air. His expression tightened instantly."Dr. York, watch out!" Fiona shouted as she lunged forward, throwing herself behind Cassian.Cassian couldn't possibly let an ordinary woman like her shield him from danger. Cassian suddenly dropped low, his knees skidding across the ground as he slid beneath Phantom. Roaring, he turned midair, his body contorting, to face Cassian head-on. His fingers shot toward Cassian's foot.Cassian cursed inwardly, feeling pretty shocked. He didn't expect the old bastard to be this agile. If he didn't pull his leg back, Phantom would seize it before his kick could even connect. That would put him at a disadvantage, which was certainly not what he wanted. There was no time to think. At that critical moment, Cassian hastily withdrew his leg. However, unwilling to give up just like that, he quietly tossed out a Lightning Charm before backing away.Phantom seized the chance to rush after Phantom. While retreating, Cassian muttered the incantation, "Let the might of lightning gather.
