Chapter 6

Author: Foxy Whispers
Serena had abruptly leaned forward, and Cassian was greeted with a mesmerizing sight…

He could hardly breathe, and to make matters worse, Serena was staring alluringly at him. Her eyes almost seemed to beckon him, tempting him to come play with her.

Immediately, Cassian turned scarlet. He'd never seen anything like that before, and he was even more mortified when he felt his blood pooling in the lower half of his body.

Just as he was wondering how he could hide his reaction, he heard Serena asking, "Do you like me, cutie?"

Her voice was soft, sending a tingling feeling through his body and making him numb. It was impossible to resist someone as seductive as her.

Cassian turned around and fled the room.

"Don't go, cutie. I've got so many things I want to say to you…" Serena burst out laughing.

Out in the corridor, Cassian felt his face and realized his cheeks were flaming hot. He had to curse at himself for being such a coward. How humiliating it was that he'd allowed a woman to scare him off like that. Still, he had to admit that she was perfect in every way, be it her looks or her figure. At least, out of all the women he'd ever met, only Vera could compete with her.

However, Vera always had a stern expression that made her look like a block of ice. She was too unapproachable. On the contrary, Serena was like a fiery ball of passion who sent sparks with every flutter of her eyelashes. It was impossible to resist her. She was the downfall of every man.

Cassian took a few deep breaths, doing his best to compose himself. He had to come up with a way to handle this. He knew that if he went back to the nursing assistant station after failing to handle things with Serena, Sally would use it as an excuse to kick him out. If that happened, he would no longer have a shot at remaining at the hospital.

Therefore, he had to reenter the hospital room and get into Serena's good books. What should he do?

Cassian felt a headache coming on. He had no experience in this sort of thing.

"Oh, whatever. Let's just see what happens when I go back inside."

Steeling himself, Cassian entered the room once more.

"Huh? Why did you come back?"

Serena's eyes flashed with surprise when she saw Cassian coming in. Giggling, she asked, "Did you miss me already?"

Cassian couldn't stop himself from blushing again.

"Oh, my. You're so shy. What a cutie you are. Come on. Tell me what you want to do. I'll satisfy all your desires."

Looking at her, Cassian said, "I'd like to take a look at your leg."

"Whoa. You're an honest guy, alright, but I didn't expect you to be so lustful. Did you just ask to see my legs? You're making me blush!" Serena pouted in feigned shyness.

Cassian hastily explained, "Please don't misunderstand, miss. I just want to check on your wound."

Startled, Serena asked, "Aren't you trying to look at my legs?"

"Nope," Cassian denied.

After staring at him for two seconds, Serena chuckled. "You're not being honest, cutie!"

"I'm a nursing assistant. It's my duty to check on your wound and change the bandage if necessary," Cassian said solemnly.

"Oh, fine."

Serena lifted the blanket and revealed her right leg. Her calf was completely wrapped in bandages.

Cassian crouched down by the bed and carefully undid the bandage to check on her wound. It was four inches long and covered in stitches, looking a bit like a centipede. It wasn't a pretty sight.

It looked like fate was jealous of her!

Cassian felt a little disgruntled. To think such a pretty woman had to go through something this horrible. Fate was being so cruel.

"How did you get injured?" Cassian asked softly.

"I was in a car accident and broke my leg," Serena replied. "I plan on getting another surgery done in a few days."

"Haven't you already completed the surgery? Why must you go for another one?" Cassian asked doubtfully.

Based on his medical knowledge, she no longer needed any more surgeries.

"I'm rather vain. I don't want any scars," Serena replied with a chuckle.

Well, that explained things.

"My attending physician said that with how large my wound is, it'll be extremely difficult to get rid of the scar even with a second surgery. He hasn't found a solution yet either. If I can't get rid of the scar, then I won't be able to wear short dresses anymore. How sad."

As soon as Serena finished speaking, Eric Watkins, a middle-aged male doctor, came in with a group of interns behind him.

"How are you feeling today, Ms. Landon?" Eric asked with a friendly expression.

"I'm fine. Have you figured out a way to get rid of the scar, Dr. Watkins?" Serena quickly asked.

"I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you, Ms. Landon," Eric said regretfully, his smile fading. "I've consulted with a dermatology specialist. In your case, it's basically impossible to remove the scar completely. Even if you undergo another skin repair surgery, the scar can't be fully removed."

"Is there really no other way?" Serena pleaded, refusing to give up. "I don't care how much it costs, Dr. Watkins, as long as you can get rid of this scar."

"Money isn't the issue, Ms. Landon. Unfortunately, what you desire can't be accomplished with current medical technology."

Serena was greatly disheartened. For her, having such a glaring scar was akin to a fatal flaw that marred her perfection. Moreover, she cared a lot about her appearance.

For some reason, after seeing how upset she was, Cassian felt bad for her. Something in him made him say, "Actually, it's not completely impossible."

All eyes fell on him.

After glancing at Cassian, Eric asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm—"

Cassian was about to introduce himself when an intern behind Eric beat him to it. "He's Cassian York, Dr. Watkins. He's a nursing assistant."

"A nursing assistant?"

Frowning, Eric asked, "What did you mean with your earlier comment?"

Cassian quickly explained, "Dr. Watkins, for cases such as Ms. Landon's, there are still solutions available."

Eric's frown deepened as he asked, "It sounds like you have an idea."

"I do," Cassian said with a nod.

"What is it?"

"We can use a Madiora enchantment."

"Don't be ridiculous!" Eric snapped with a scowl. "In this day and age, I can't believe that someone would still bring up such mumbo jumbo. Are you trying to get yourself kicked out of the hospital?"

"Let me explain, Dr. Watkins. Madiora enchantments aren't mumbo jumbo. It's a profound field of mystic arts that can truly help remove Ms. Landon's scar for her—"

"Get out!" Eric roared before Cassian could finish speaking. "If you ever spew such nonsense again, I'll have you fired from your job as a nursing assistant!"

Why wasn't anyone believing him, even though he was telling the truth?

Cassian wanted to clarify himself, but after seeing the stormy look on Eric's face, he sighed and turned to leave. Just then, Serena called out, "Wait a second!"

"What? You're taking me back to see your family, the Landons of Southeast Charmya?" Cassian exclaimed.Feeling rather caught off guard, he couldn't help but ask, "Why are we heading to Southeast Charmya in the middle of the night?""It's my grandpa's 80th birthday. I'm heading back there to celebrate it with him," Serena said."Still, you don't need to be in such a rush. Why don't I take the plane with you in the morning?"Rivershire was a few hundred miles away from Southeast Charmya, so it was quite the drive."I don't like flying. I never feel safe on planes," Serena said."This is kind of sudden, Serena," Cassian remarked. "I don't even have time to prepare anything."She replied, "You don't need to prepare anything. I don't have a very good relationship with my family."That made Cassian wonder why she was heading back home when she had a poor relationship with them.Serena continued, "I wasn't planning on heading back, but my dad called me tonight. He said that everyone

Thiago bent down and closed Leto's eyes before turning to Cassian, saying, "Thank you, Cassian. Once again, you've saved Claude and me. If it weren't for you today, the two of us would've died at Leto's hands.""You don't need to thank me. I'm glad I was able to help you and Mr. Hudson," Cassian said with a smile."You know, ever since we met, I've always been able to get out of any danger I encounter. It's almost as if you're my guardian angel! Hahaha."After chortling over that, Thiago instructed Claude, "Tidy up the place, Claude. Have two of our people take Leto's body to the morgue. Get a burial plot for him and give him a proper burial."Oh, and cook that. We'll have it with some booze later."He pointed at the red snake."Got it, Lord Drakeford!" Claude replied before quickly making the arrangements."Come with me, Cassian," Thiago said before heading to his study.Cassian thought Thiago had something to discuss with him. However, once they were in the study, Thiago retr

Just as Thiago's fist was about to smash into Leto's throat, a dark shadow suddenly appeared. In an instant, an overwhelming sense of danger washed over Thiago.Without a second thought, he retreated at full speed. Only after pulling back a full ten feet did he finally see that the dark shadow was a seven-star beetle. The beetle was about the size of a thumb. Its entire body was pitch black, but its two eyes glowed with an eerie blue light. However, its body was also covered in a greenish liquid that made one's stomach churn."What the hell is that?" Thiago asked, his expression grave. He could feel the threat radiating from the small insect."That's the source parasite," Cassian answered."It's one of those parasites?"Thiago's eyes flashed murderously. Having been tormented by the Two-Fanged Venom for years now, he deeply loathed such parasites with every fiber of his being. He threw a punch, intent on killing the source parasite. However, he didn't expect it to be even quic

Cassian didn't show the slightest flicker of fear. On the contrary, he studied the red snake keenly."You've had this snake for quite some years, haven't you, Adept Mabry?""Spark has been with me for 15 years.""Does it weigh about 50 pounds?""Almost. It's 48 pounds," Leto replied, feeling somewhat puzzled. "Why do you ask?"Instead of responding, Cassian remarked to himself, "If it weighs 48 pounds, then after removing the skin and the innards, there should be about 30 pounds of meat left. That's enough for a barbecue party."What the heck did he say?Leto cursed inwardly before roaring, "Spark is like a brother to me! How dare you think about eating—""It's like a brother to you? You consider a beast like that your brother? Doesn't that make you a beast, too? Well, damn. Why am I wasting my breath on a beast, then?"Jabbing a finger at the red snake, Cassian said, "Come and die, beast."Hissing sharply, the red snake lunged at Cassian like a bolt of lightning. It moved at

The moment Cassian saw Leto slip his right hand into his pocket, he knew Leto was up to no good, but he didn't care. Smiling, he said, "Adept Mabry, there's something I think you might find interesting.""What is it?" Leto asked darkly."I killed Kendrick Peyton," Cassian announced.Immediately, Leto's expression hardened. The main purpose of his trip to Rivershire was to uncover the truth about Kendrick's death and find out who wiped out the Rivershire branch of the Hexen Coven. Never in his wildest thoughts did he imagine the culprit would be this young man standing before him!It went without saying that Cassian was deliberately lying to Leto. He had indeed been present the day Kendrick died, but it was Claude who'd shot him to death."Back at the Prewett residence earlier today, you pulled out a green leaf and blew on it to make a sharp, piercing sound. Kendrick had brought out a similar one the day I killed him," Cassian said. "I'm guessing that you and Kendrick weren't just

The men surrounding Cassian only caught a blur before Cassian was already in front of Leto.Leto hadn't expected Cassian to be this quick. By the time he realized the danger approaching him, it was already too late. He could only watch helplessly as Cassian's fist slammed into his chest. The blow sent him flying.Cassian didn't bother to chase him down to finish the job. Instead, he quickly pulled out his gold needles and stabbed several points on Thiago's body. Soon after that, the poison was purged from Thiago's body, and he staggered back onto his feet.Once that was done, Cassian proceeded to purge the poison from Claude's body as well."Thank you, Cassian," Thiago said, his voice laden with gratitude. He would've been a dead man if Cassian hadn't shown up in time."You don't have to thank me. Honestly, this is my fault. I discovered earlier today that he was part of the Hexen Coven, but there were too many people at the hotel. I didn't want any innocent bystanders to get inj
