Chapter 13

Scarlett's pov

I remained silent as Nora led me to her room and nudged me to sit on her bed. She went into her bathroom and returned with a first aid kit and placed it beside me before she headed towards her mini fridge and brought out an ice pack.

"Here, place this on your cheek." She said as she handed the ice pack to me and I silently took it, unwilling to do or say anything that would make her wrath turn to me.

She took some cotton and disinfectant and began cleaning a little wound just at the corner of my lip. Even though the wound stung, I remained silent and didn't flinch until she was done.

"Why did you let them harm you? You would have fought back," Nora finally broke the stifling silence between us.

"It's easier to let them think they are in control, if I fought back and they saw me as a threat they would have done much worse," I explained to her and I could see understanding in her eyes but also defiance.
