Chapter 3 First Shift

To help me forget the pain of my lovelorn heart, my mother decided to take me to live with Aunt Nancy’s pack for a while. Aunt Nancy was my mother’s sister and the Luna of the Silver Lake pack. Although the Silver Lake pack was not large, the rural environment was beautiful, and the people were friendly to outsiders. The Galaxy pack was not too far from our Red Crescent pack, but it still took us a day’s drive to reach our destination.

Upon our arrival, Aunt Nancy and her husband, Alpha Juan, warmly welcomed us. However, Aunt Nancy warned us not to wander around the pack due to the royal army camping nearby. They were searching for rogues who were attempting to rebel. Aunt Nancy gave me a special look when she mentioned the royal family. She told my mother in a low voice that the royal family was searching for unmarried women to attend the annual wedding banquet. However, it had been several years since the prince had found his true mate from these girls. Many girls who lost the election were robbed of their virginity by the nobles, and some were even forced to become sexual slaves of the nobles. Therefore, all packs were resistant to the prince’s choice of a concubine, but due to the authority of the royal family, everyone dared to be angry but not speak.

Aunt Nancy suggested that I stay in her manor until the royal army left, and I did not object. After all, I did not want to be caught and forced to attend any wedding banquet. Of course, I could not be the prince’s mate. Who would accept a woman without a wolf? I felt sad again.

The trip was boring, and I spent most of my days sitting in the garden, which did not help cure my inner pain. About a month later, my mother received a letter from my father, asking her to return home to prepare for Susan and Jack’s wedding. At first, my mother disagreed, but Aunt Nancy kindly reminded her that marriage was related to the alliance and development between the two packs. Moreover, the royal family would send members to attend the wedding ceremony and take the opportunity to inspect the development of various packs. Alpha’s marriage relationship was closely related to the stability of the pack, which was also included in the investigation scope of the royal consultant. Finally, my mother decided to return home the day after receiving the letter.

The night before I left, there was a full moon. I leaned out of the window and looked out. A winding river flowed in the forest behind the manor. The moon hung high in the dark night sky, and the bright moonlight spread on the river, like a silver ribbon flowing slowly. It was really beautiful! I was deeply attracted by the scenery in front of me and imagined myself as a fish swimming in the river. Suddenly, a bold idea flooded into my mind. I wanted to turn this imagination into reality!

I slipped out of the back door of the manor, and the feeling of being free was really exciting! I ran along the path towards the river!

When my foot stepped on the soft grass, a fresh breath of the forest came to my nose. Suddenly, a bright white light flashed in front of my eyes. I looked down and saw the emerald on the necklace shining strangely in the moonlight. Curious, I stroked the emerald with my fingers, and a heat flow actually reached my whole body through my fingertips. My whole body was burning, and I could even hear the blood churning in my pulse. The sound of the wind rustled in my ears, and it seemed that a powerful force was about to erupt from my body.

There she was! My wolf had finally come! I was going to start shifting, feeling excited and thrilled. When I took off my clothes, I heard the sound of bones breaking due to deformation. Fortunately, the whole process of shifting was not long, and finally, I became a wolf and ran wildly in the forest. Shirley was my wolf’s name.

I continued to run, and in front of me, a group of fireflies scattered in the grass. Then more and more fireflies gathered together, and their gathered light gradually formed a low wall. I was possessed and rushed in the direction of the light. However, just as I was about to break through the low wall, a tall shadow emerged from behind the wall! I was so scared that I stopped!

A pure white wolf slowly came out from behind the light. He was huge, and his white fur sparkled in the glow of fireflies. A king’s domineering came directly from his eyes. He stared at me and approached me step by step, so I had to back off. I felt scared. Now I looked so small in front of him, and I was worried whether he regarded me as his prey. If he really wanted to kill me, I was afraid I wouldn’t even have room to fight back!

A faint smell of grass mixed with the aroma of pine was blown into my nose by the wind. It smelled good! However, my fear had not disappeared. I had to run away before this powerful wolf caught me! Just as he was about to get close to me, I paddled hard to the ground with my claws and swept the soil to the wolf’s face. His face was covered with dust when he was unprepared. So I took the opportunity to escape!

I ran with all my strength and dared not stop for a moment. The sound of the wind whizzed in my ear, and my eyes only stared at the direction of the manor, and all the obstacles in front of me became empty! My running speed and jumping ability were excellent in the process of escape! Fortunately, the wolf didn’t come after me in the end. But the whine he made behind me scared me!

However, just when I finally fled back to the manor, I found that my necklace was gone! Damn, I must have lost it when I was running just now! I dared not go back to pick up the necklace. If I met that big white wolf again, I was afraid I would lose my life!

I stayed up all night, praying for the dawn to come soon so I could get out of there as soon as possible. That unique fragrance still remained in my nasal cavity.

 Who was he?
