Jack's POV.

Her cheeks rose up in the cutest blush I'd ever seen after I said that.

“that's fine,” she muttered, still keeping her distance.

I groaned as I tried to sit myself up and that's when she came closer, pressing her hand on my chest. The sparks from her touch sizzled on my skin with desire.

For a moment, I couldn't think straight.

All I could see were those beautiful grey eyes encased in her round face. My mate was nothing short of beautiful. She had one of those faces that was too hard to stop looking at.

“Don't move, I hear that worsens injuries,” she whispered innocently, her eyes glistening with the fear of losing me.

That made me wonder if she was the one who brought me here.

“You were the one who saved me?” I asked, and she nodded.

My heart palpated with relief as I smiled, “Thank you mate. You have no idea what this means for me.”

And what I said was the truth.

I knew if my father found out about the rogue brutally attacking us, he'd first scold me to death before helping me out.

“Alphas should be strong! Alphas should be able to face whatever life throws. No pack needs a weak leader!” He'd always yell at me.

But that certainly means Alphas were immune to pain, did it? He'd always bragged about how many attacks he won effortlessly on his own and that did more to irritate me than motivate me.

“You know, I'm happy that you're okay. I was already crying because I thought you'd never acknowledge that you're my mate.” Her soft voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

My brows furrowed, “Why wouldn't I acknowledge that you're my mate?”

Her gaze lowered and I felt the scent of sadness hovering over her. She was beautiful and she was my life saver. Of course I was going to be with her, there was no stopping this.

“You're an Alpha and I'm an–”

The door flew open, cutting her off before she could finish.

“You shameless omega!” A woman barked as she charged in, walking straight to my mate and pulling her up with a menacing expression.

My heart skipped a beat.

My mate was an omega?

Fuck.

Was the moon goddess playing a cruel joke on us? It was an abomination for an Alpha and an Omega to be mates.

So how was this possible?

“Moth–”

“BAM!”

The woman landed a hot slap on her cheek and she stumbled back, her face reddening as tears streamed down her face.

“I've told you not to use that filthy mouth of yours to call me mother!” She snarled.

“Do something Jake! They're hurting our mate!” My wolf yelled in my head, making a growl escape my lips.

The woman's gaze darted towards me and her eyes widened like she'd just seen a ghost.

“Oh, you're alive! Thank the goddess for this miracle!” She joyfully threw her hands in the air but even her little act of happiness still pissed me off.

My eyes were fixed on my mate whose body was trembling as she wiped her tears.

Just then, her mother moved closer to her, grabbing her arm and pushing her so hard that she fell on the floor.

“You're supposed to be at Alpha Brian’s place for your punishment, you brat. You better get going before I start punishing you right here!” She hissed, and Nova immediately rose up, shaking as she stood by the door with a helpless expression on the door.

My wolf whined as she gave me one last look before she turned to leave.

“Wait!” The word escaped my lips before I could stop them, pulling my mate to a halt.

“Alpha? You don't need to worry about her. She's a very disobedient omega who's getting punished for disobeying the pack rules.” Her mother explained, contempt written all over her face.

If this woman knew that it was my mate she was treating like that, then she'd have thought twice.

But I couldn't tell her that.

And even though omegas were the lowest in the rank, it didn't mean that they should be treated like animals.

Back in my pack, omegas were servants but they were treated with respect.

This was unacceptable.

“What was her crime?” I asked, my eyes still fixed on my mate.

“Crossing the pack borders without permission,” her mother quickly replied.

That must have been when she came out to save me.

And she was being punished for that? Impossible.

“Well, I don't think she should–”

“Oh Alpha Jake. I understand that you don't like mistreating people. I've heard a lot about you but this girl needs to be disciplined,” her mother insisted and before I could say anything else, pack soldiers appeared at the door.

They pulled on either arms of my mate as they dragged her away and panic surged through me at the thought of what they were going to do to her.

Since when did a mother grow to resent her child so much that she punished her for the smallest things?

With my mate gone, the woman in the room turned to me with the wildest smile but my expression remained icy.

“It's a good thing you survived. Our pack warriors came to your rescue after we perceived the scent of rogues. We got our pack’s best healer to treat you.” She pressed her hand against her chest like she was telling a heartfelt speech but I didn't buy the lies.

Being an Alpha meant that a lot of wicked people often liked to act noble just for favors in the future.

I know exactly who saved me, and I'll make sure to get her out of here.

Just then, the healer walked in and his jaws dropped as he stared at me.

“This is a miracle. May the goddess be praised!” He exclaimed excitedly.

But none of their joyful shows was my problem.

My mate being punished was my predicament.

She didn't deserve that.

“Please, bring that omega back here,” I ordered.

Nova's POVI woke to the sound of voices in the sitting area. The voices were low and serious. The kind of conversation that was not meant for me to hear.I sat up slowly, careful not to make noise. The bedroom door was slightly ajar and I could see Ken and Killian through the gap. They stood near the window, their backs to me.And Lyssandra was with them.My stomach tightened. What was she doing here so early in the morning?I slipped out of bed and moved closer to the door, pressing myself against the wall where I could hear better but remain hidden."How did you know about the investigator?" Ken's voice was sharp, demanding as he dragged Lysandra's hand pulling her back into the room."I have ears, brother." Lysandra's tone was calm but pointed. "Did you really think you could bring a stranger into the palace in the middle of the night and nobody would notice?""Only Killian and I knew about him." Ken sounded frustrated. "And Nova who later found out about it.""Well clearly, you w

  • Mated To My Alpha Step Brother   Chapter 120

Ken's POVNova looked up at me, her eyes shining with unshed tears. My confession hung in the air between us, raw and honest."Even if I take responsibility that was once snatched away from me," she spoke slowly, carefully choosing her words, "I am not just going to leave you both. You and Killian are my mates. My home. Nothing changes that."Relief flooded through me but I forced myself to remain realistic. "You should make your decision now, Nova. Not later. Not when guilt has time to build and pressure you into something you do not want.""But—""If you decide to go back and help them, it will hurt us. I will not lie about that." I cupped her face in my hands. "Killian and I will hate every moment you are away. We will worry constantly. But we will still support you. We will still be here waiting when you return."Her hands came up to cover mine. "You make it sound so simple.""It is not simple at all. But the choice is yours to make."She pulled away slightly, wrapping her arms ar

Nova's POVI stood frozen in the corridor, my mind racing. Ken and this stranger were having a secret meeting in the middle of the night. About what?Part of me wanted to storm over there and demand answers immediately. But curiosity won out over confrontation.I pressed myself back against the wall, staying hidden in the shadows. If I stayed quiet enough, maybe I could hear what they were discussing.Their voices were low but the empty corridor carried sound well enough. I strained my ears to listen.A ridiculous thought crossed my mind. What if this man was the one leaving me notes? What if Ken had hired him as some strange romantic gesture, some kind of fetish game to keep things exciting? The idea was absurd even as I thought it. Ken would never do something so twisted. Would he?No. I shook my head slightly, dismissing the thought. I was grasping at straws, trying to make sense of something that made no sense. The stranger spoke first, his voice carrying just enough for me to hea

  • Mated To My Alpha Step Brother   Chapter 118

Nova's POVI sat on the edge of the bed, staring at nothing. The room felt too quiet now that Ken and Killian had left. Too empty with just my thoughts for company. My mother's words kept replaying in my mind. The pack needs you. We are being attacked. We cannot hold on much longer.Part of me wanted to dismiss it entirely. To write it off as manipulation, as a desperate attempt to use me for something I did not owe anyone. But another part, a smaller, quieter part, wondered if she was telling the truth. What if the pack really was dying? What if people I had grown up with, children I had played with, were being slaughtered because they had no strong leadership?I shook my head, trying to clear the thoughts away. It did not matter. They had abandoned me. They had left me to believe everyone was dead. They did not deserve my help. But the guilt gnawed at me anyway.I stood and paced the room, my bare feet silent on the cold floor. Could I really turn my back on them if they were truly

Killian's POVI stared at Nova, stunned by the raw pain pouring out of her. Her words echoed in the room, sharp and cutting. She was right. She had every right to feel everything she was feeling.I had made a mistake trying to comfort her the wrong way."You are absolutely right." I kept my voice low and steady. "I am sorry. I should not have told you not to be sad."She looked at me through her tears, her chest heaving with sobs."You can express your pain however you need to." I moved closer carefully, not wanting to crowd her. "Scream, cry, break things if you want. You have earned that right.""I just..." Her voice cracked. "I just feel so broken.""I know." I sat down beside her on the floor. "And that is alright. You are allowed to be broken right now."She buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking. I wanted to pull her into my arms but waited, letting her decide if she wanted that comfort. After a moment, she leaned into me. I wrapped my arms around her immediately, h

  • Mated To My Alpha Step Brother   Chapter 116

Nova's POVMy mind refused to accept what I was hearing. If Seraphina had not left those notes, then someone else had been tormenting me this entire time."Wait." I turned to Ken, urgency flooding through me. "Do you still have the notes? The ones you found in my room?"He nodded slowly. "Yes. We kept them as evidence. They are in my study.""Get them. Now. Please."Ken looked at Killian, who gave a slight nod. "I will be right back."He left quickly and I was alone with Killian, Lysandra, and the heavy silence that filled the room."You cannot seriously be considering that she is telling the truth." Lysandra crossed her arms. "She is obviously lying to save herself.""Maybe." I met her eyes. "Or maybe we have been wrong about everything.""Nova—""Just wait. Let me show her the notes."Ken returned minutes later carrying a small wooden box. He set it on the table and opened it, revealing the collection of cream-coloured papers I had hidden for so long. The guards brought Seraphina ba
