Lyra’s POV

FLASHBACK TO FEW HOURS AGO

“But I’m not going to the kitchen now,” I said behind Ava, stopping in my tracks. “I have to run an errand for Karen.”

She turned around to face me. “An errand?”

“Yeah,” I replied quickly, forcing a calm smile onto my face. “She asked me to do something first. You can go ahead.”

Her shoulders relaxed. “Oh, okay. No problem. I’ll head there then.”

I nodded, watching her walk away toward the kitchen. I didn’t move until I was sure she had gone in. Once she disappeared through the kitchen door, I turned around quickly and walked the opposite way. I wasn’t running any errands.

I ducked into the corner near the hallway that led to the slave’s quarters. My breath hitched as I peeked from behind the wall, making sure she was really inside. I had to be absolutely sure. I couldn’t afford any mistakes.

Once I confirmed she was inside, I slipped away quickly and hurried toward the Alpha’s quarters—but stopped halfway. I looked down at my dress
