The sharp needle pricked my neck, causing a tiny sting. I could feel the small, precise puncture right over my mate's mark. It was nothing I couldn’t handle. As Gabriel pushed the serum into my body, things took a strange turn. At first, there was no immediate change in how I felt. I could still sense the mate bond connecting me to Elio, even though I was back home. I just felt a cooling sensation trickle through me like a cool breeze on a summer’s day.

Gabriel put the needle down and gave me an inquisitive look. “How do you feel?” he asked, leaning back to examine my neck. I felt perfectly normal. Perhaps it was a dud.
