It had been a week. A full seven days since the night in the garden, since the kiss that never happened, and the way Cassian had walked away without looking back.

The days since had been... steady. Almost too steady.

My wounds had healed completely, the bruises faded into nothing, and Mrs. Alanna had declared me "fit for duty" again. I'd spent most mornings with the omegas, reviewing schedules, reassigning tasks, and trying to fall back into the rhythm of Luna work.

But something felt off. The pack was on edge, and so was Cassian. My guess was that it had to do with the upcoming war.

But I couldn’t guess why Cassian had been avoiding me.

He hadn't exactly avoided me, at least not in the obvious sense, but he hadn't sought me out either. The only time I saw him was in passing, giving orders, training warriors, or sitting beside his father at briefings. Each time, he'd offer a polite nod, maybe a fleeting look, and that was it.

No warmth. No teasing remarks. No Cassian.
