Mag-log inI glared at the wolf, completely annoyed by its intrusion.
"Who are you?" I tilted my head to the side, trying to figure out if I knew it. I could tell it was a male. Its fur was brown and black, its size was way above the average. It stared at me menacingly, but I wasn't bothered; I didn't feel threatened one bit. A wolf lurking in my backyard, staring like a creep? I couldn't take that seriously. I scoffed and turned around, to return to my house, when it growled. It had me stopping in my tracks, the sound travelling straight to my soul, making my heart rate increase. What is this ? Why am I reacting this way to a random wolf ? The growl was a warning; he hated that I turned my back to him. I took another step forward, defiantly, and it growled again. This time, the sound was closer. I hadn't noticed when it moved or heard anything. He was stealthy. I took another step forward, then bolted. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I could hear the sound of his heavy paws hitting the hard ground from behind me. He was after me. I didn't get far before I felt a heavy weight on my back, making me crash to the ground. My chin hit the ground, drawing blood. "Damn you !" I growled, rage brewing. He was on top of me, sniffing at my neck. His paw was heavy, one of them directly above my shoulder. "Get off me !" I tried to push him off, but his weight was too much for my 5’7” figure. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. The scent of blood and mud invaded my senses, accompanied by a strong scent of sandalwood mixed with something sweet. It was enticing, calling out to me. My heart thudded, my nose sniffing violently, trying to get as much of the scent as possible. Then I noticed it, the sparks dancing underneath the skin where he touched. It made my entire body tingle. My eyes widened in realisation. He continued sniffing my neck, purring in satisfaction. Mate. My wolf howled. Mine. My breathing became much heavier. This shouldn't be happening. I don't want to be mated, I don't want to be tied back to this pack. Damn it. His touch made me shiver involuntarily. I was drawn to him, as much as I hated it. My hands itched to rub his fur. Mate. My wolf was restless, fighting to come out. No. I need to focus. I don't want him, I don't want a mate. I heard the sound of the front door shut, and footsteps approaching. He got off me and in a flash, was completely out of sight. So fast. I found myself missing the sparks from the mate bond. "Talia ?" It was Tasha. She sounded concerned. I imagined how ridiculous I looked, lying on my stomach in the dirt, blood trickling down my chin. "Are you okay?" She rushed to my side, her nose probably catching the scent of my blood. He hurt me. That's a valid reason to reject him, right ? "Yes." I groaned, getting up on my feet. "I tripped." The lie slipped out naturally. She stared at me, concern etched on her features. "Let's get you inside so you can clean up and have something to eat. The food's getting cold and Mum is waiting for you." Shoot. I completely forgot about that woman and her feast. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, for my sister's sake. “Sure." She held my hand, leading me down the pathway that led back to our front door. I turned around, looking at the woods once more. My eyes locked with a pair of glowing yellows. He was watching. It sent chills up my spine.Talia's POV FIVE YEARS LATER The house was loud. Not the kind of loud that came with danger or panic, the kind that came with chaos, children, and one absolutely unhinged uncle. I leaned against the kitchen doorway, pinching the bridge of my nose as a high-pitched shriek echoed through the hall. "MILO! TELL THEM TO LEAVE MY WOLF PLUSHIE ALONE!" That was Rowan, my son. One half of the twins. He was wild like fire, sharp like a blade and stubborn like... well, me. "No!" his sister Aria snapped back. "It's mine now! You said I could hold it!" "I SAID YOU COULD HOLD IT, NOT KIDNAP IT!" Before I could intervene, Nicole popped out from behind the couch holding a tray of cookies and wearing a ridiculous apron. "Children!" he announced dramatically. "You must learn the ways of negotiation. Aria, demand concessions. Rowan, threaten war. This is very simple." "Nicole," I groaned, "stop encouraging them." "Encouraging?" Nicole gasped, fake-offended."I'm educating them. These are val
Talia’s POV I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. “Is it like a wedding?”Nicole sighed, rolling his eyes for what had to be the hundredth time that day. “No, Talia.” He spun me around by the shoulders till I was facing him. “It’s a Luna coronation.”“I didn’t know that was a thing.” I whispered, playing with my dress. I felt an unusual stir of nerves.“It is. It’s ancient culture, not completely necessary but…” he trailed off. “It’s cute, I guess. Cassian had been planning one for you before…”Right.I straightened. But the nerves in my stomach didn’t die down.“You’re going to be alright,” Nicole reassured softly. “The pack loves you, you’re their hero.”I scoffed.“I don’t need their love.”Not after they abandoned me and turned their backs to me when I needed them the most.“You’ll grow to love them.”“I won’t.”He opened his mouth to argue when the door pushed open. Katherine’s head popped in. “It’s time.”I nodded. I looked at Nicole one last time.“W
Cassian’s POV“So Mason, huh?”Nicole’s head snapped up, uncertainty flickering across his face.“Yeah,” he mumbled almost sheepishly. “I know he’s your nemesis and all, but—”I crossed my arms, leaning against the kitchen wall.Talia was still asleep—after I’d thoroughly worn her out last night—so I’d taken the opportunity to talk to Nicole. My best friend.“It doesn’t matter what he is to me,” I shrugged. “What matters is what he is to you.”His eyes widened slightly.“Does he make you happy?”Silence stretched between us.Nicole’s expression shifted slowly—surprise, longing, relief, happiness. Then finally—Something softer.Something almost sad.My chest tightened painfully.“Yeah,” he whispered. “He does.”I nodded once, an unfamiliar ache settling in my chest. We both knew what that meant.I wanted to argue. Wanted to convince him not to leave.Wanted to selfishly ask him to stay. But I couldn’t.Not when the heaviness that had haunted him for months was finally gone. Not when h
Talia’s POV“How long was I out?” I asked Cassian as I pulled my clothes on.After another day hidden away in the woods, wrapped in each other, he had mindlinked someone to bring us clothes. He shrugged lazily from where he leaned against the tree, his arms coming around my waist the second I stepped close enough.“Two days?” He mumbled, pressing a slow kiss to my lips.I opened my mouth to respond, but he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss, his tongue slipping into my mouth like he couldn’t help himself.A soft sound escaped me before I could stop it.I kissed him back instinctively, my hands flattening against his chest.I didn’t know whether to push him away or pull him impossibly closer. His hand tangled in my hair as the heat between us thickened.I moaned quietly, feeling warmth pool low in my stomach. My wolf stirred hungrily.“Cass,” I breathed against his mouth. “We have to stop.”He stepped forward anyway, crowding into my space until my back hit the rough bark of the t
Talia’s POVThe stretch was exquisite—almost too much, yet exactly what I needed. We both cried out, the bond singing between us as he filled me completely. For a second we stayed like that, joined as deeply as two beings could be, trembling with the intensity of it.Then he started moving. It was slow at first, giving me a moment to get used to the fullness again. After so long without him, my body had almost forgotten what it was like to be filled up. But the slow pace wasn’t enough for me. My wolf clawed harder. “Cass,’ I gasped, “more.”That one word was all it took. I could see the moment his restraint snapped, and he pulled out, almost completely. Then plunged in.Hard. Deep.A scream tore out of my throat, my hands coming up to his back, my nails digging into his skin. His pace was relentless. Each thrust slammed into me with the force of a man who had almost lost everything. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my heels digging into his back, urging him deeper. My nai
Talia’s POV I didn’t know how long we remained in that position. And I didn’t care to know. I was with my mate. His arms wrapped tightly around me, grounding me in reality. The warmth radiating off him seeped into my bones. His scent was stronger now, drowning out the scent of the forest around us. And the feel of his skin against mine— Goddess. It was different. Stronger. More intense. Like the bond had rooted itself deeper beneath my skin. My breath caught in my throat. “Are you okay?” he murmured softly. “You almost died.” I pulled back slightly, just enough to look at him. His warm eyes were already on me. Filled with concern. Fear. Relief. He frowned slightly. “Your eyes,” he whispered. “They’re green again.” Oh. Something settled heavily in my chest. Something dangerously close to disappointment. His gaze slowly drifted downward, settling on my sternum where the Goddess’ mark had once rested. His fingers brushed over the spot gently. “It’s gone too.” I
Talia's POVI brushed my hands on my dress, getting up to head back to the library when my door was pushed open. Mason strolled in, confident as ever. He didn't knock or ask if he should come in, he just did. I ignored him, brushing past him. His hand—hesitant at first—shot out and grabbed my arm
Nicole's POVI found the most quiet spot in the Pack—the library. It wasn't hard. The moment I stepped inside, the noise of the pack faded into nothing. No footsteps. No voices. Just the soft hum of books.I moved deeper, past towering shelves and narrow aisles, until I reached a secluded section t
Nicole's POVIf anyone had told me I'd be lurking around my friend's room—jaw clenched, an emotion that felt far too much like jealousy curling in my chest—I would've laughed in their face.Yet here I was, doing the walk of shame to... wherever, after watching Mason leave Talia's room.Of course, h
Talia's POV I stared at the book in front of me over and over again, trying to make sense of the words, but they just kept blurring together. "Fuck." I muttered, slamming it shut. My head throbbed. My chest felt tight. My skin was warm, too warm, like there was a storm trapped under it. Too
