The Luna’s body shook violently, her hands gripping the Alpha’s so tight her nails dug into his skin. Every breath she took was sharp, ragged, and trembling.

He stood beside her, jaw tight, chest heavy, eyes scanning the shadows as if danger itself had already arrived.

“We… we should have waited,” the Luna whispered, voice shaking. “What if… what if they are… right? Dangerous?”

The Alpha’s hands tightened around hers. “They are ours. That is all that matters. We protect them. Whatever comes, we protect them.”

Her eyes darted to him, wide, fearful. “We are enemies by blood, we should not have mixed. What have we done?”

The midwife gasped, rushing forward. Before anyone could speak, the first cries shattered the den. The midwife lifted the first child— a boy into the air. Tiny chest heaving, skin pale and warm yet alive.

The Luna pressed him to her chest, voice trembling. “K… Kael is safe,” she whispered. Relief pressed on her, fragile and fleeting.

Before anyone could breathe, another contraction ripped through her. She gasped, eyes wide. “Two… there’s another?”

The midwife guided the second child into the world— a girl. Tiny, delicate, fists curling sharply. Her chest rose unevenly, and a low, almost a soft growl escaped her throat even in sleep. The Luna froze.

“What… what is she?” the Luna whispered. “I do not know… what we have done. I do not know what they carry.”

The Alpha’s hands rested on both children, tense, trembling. “We protect them. That is all we can do. No one outside this room can decide their fate.”

The Luna shivered violently, blood spilling fast and unstoppable. Her body convulsed, then went still. With her last breath she whispered, “Protect them…” before her eyes dulled and closed forever.

The Alpha roared, grief and rage colliding in his chest. He held the twins tightly, staring at the two fragile lives in his arms. The boy’s chest rose and fell steadily, but the girl’s tiny fists twitched sharply, low growls slipping from her throat.

************

The throne room was quiet, the Alpha sat alone, holding the cloth of his late Luna. His gaze was dark, fixed on nothing, mind replaying the events in the den. Rage still burned through him, raw and uncontrolled.

The door burst open. The Witch Doctor stepped in, eyes blazing, voice sharp and unyielding. “Alpha! Luna! You cannot ignore this. Hear me now!”

The Alpha straightened, chest tight, jaw clenched. “Step back. She is hurt. This is not the time for riddles.”

The Witch Doctor’s gaze cut through him like a blade. “Time? There is no time. You have already brought chaos into the world. Do you not see what you have done? The union of Lycan and Werewolf… it has awakened what should never have existed.”

The Alpha’s hands tightened around the twins. “I do not understand your meaning. Explain, or leave.”

Her lips curved, a cold, terrible smile. “You do not understand, Alpha. You never could. You think you hold power in these arms, but it is only a beginning. The boy and the girl… they carry storms in their blood. Fire and shadow. One will rise and one will burn. One will bring salvation, the other… destruction. The balance is broken.”

“I will not let you threaten my children,” the Alpha growled, stepping forward. “Speak carefully, witch, or your life ends here.”

The Witch Doctor laughed, a sound sharp and bitter. “Threaten me? You could not even protect the mother who bore them.” She paced but he eyes were fixed on the alpha. “Your strength and your rage are nothing. You are too late to stop what is coming. You cannot kill fate, Alpha. You cannot kill what is already born.”

The Alpha’s hands trembled with a mixture of rage and fear. “What do you mean?”

She stepped closer, voice dropping, cold and commanding, every word hitting hard like stone. “I mean the children must not survive. Their blood… their union… it will unravel everything you hold dear. You will see death walk beside them. You will see destruction where there should be life. And when the world trembles, you will know it began with you.”

Before he could react, the bodyguard entered, dragging the struggling Omega into the room. She fought, claws flexing, eyes wild with desperation.

“She tried to kill them,” the bodyguard said sharply. “Almost succeeded. I caught her.”

The Omega sobbed, voice trembling. “I… I made a promise to the Luna. She begged me… She begged me... she said they must not survive. She feared what they were.”

The Alpha’s claws unsheathed as he walked slowly, circling the omega. One swipe, and the Omega fell still, blood splashed against the stone floor. He spoke coldly, his voice like steel. “Do not test me.”

The Witch Doctor’s laughter rang out, cruel and sharp. “You think that changes anything? You cannot protect them. Their blood… it will awaken storms. Death walks beside them. You cannot stop what is coming!”

Before she could finish, the bodyguard moved fast, striking her down. Her body hit the floor, but even as she fell, her words spilled like a curse, dark and venomous:

“The hybrid heart cannot serve two masters. One must fall or all shall fall…”

Kaelis’ PovI barely had time to process his words before Soren’s deep voice cut through the crowd.“This is Orin Ashvale, reigning champion of the Festival of Moons race,” he announced. The crowd erupted again— shouts, cheers and people hitting their hands on the chair. The sound slammed into me, and every eyes seemed to follow him, yet he looked straight at me.He lifted a brow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, and the look he gave me… it was bold, sultry and almost teasing. Heat rushed to my cheeks and my throat went dry. I didn’t know if I should look away, smile, or run but instead I sat, my eyes fixed on him.“You look tense,” he said, voice low.“I’m… not tense,” I snapped, the words sharper than I intended but my pulse betrayed me, pounding so loud I was sure he could hear it.His brow lifted. “No?” His gaze dropped to my hands, where my knuckles whitened against the arm of the chair. “Strange. You’re holding on like the ground might vanish beneath you.”Heat rushe

Kaelis’ povThe past two weeks had changed me in ways I did not expect. At first, I thought I would break, but had they let me help in the clinic, and that work kept me standing. I carried water for the healers, held down bandages, steadied trembling hands when patients were too weak to lift themselves. It was not much, but it was enough to remind me I was not completely useless. Even when my hands shook, even when my stomach turned at the sight of wounds, I forced myself through it.The King had also moved me from that cage they first called a room. Now I slept in a chamber with sunlight pouring through wide windows every morning. I could see the sky, the trees dancing in the distance, and when I stepped close enough, I could even feel the warmth of the sun across my face. The mattress was still hard and the blanket scratchy, but compared to where I had been, it felt like another world. Why give me comfort now after keeping me in a place that felt like a cage? And in those quiet hou

▪️ Kaelis' Pov▪️I could not sleep all through the night I had spent here— I had spent it staring at the empty walls that surrounded me.I was moved into a chamber that was bare— the walls were cold and damp. A cot stood in the corner and the mattress had a hole in the middle. The blanket was rough and itchy against my skin and a small hole— wouldn’t be caught dead calling it a window. It wasn’t for ventilation… that was for sure. The room had no table or chair or anything that would have served as comfort. This was what they called a room for me but it felt not so different from the prison I had woken up in.I sucked my teeth when the thought of the king saying this was how they treated their guest rushed into me. “Guest, my ass,” I murmured, barely audible.I pressed my hand against my chest, trying to calm the wild thudding of my heart. I told myself to breathe slow, to stay calm, but it did not help as my body got tensed and restless, my hands shaking when I brought them togeth

▪️Kaelis' Pov▪️The stench of rot hit me first before I could open my eyes. I opened my eyes to thick darkness as the only source of light came from a little crack in the door.I tried to move my hand but it burned and was stretched above me. The ache spread down to my spine and my throat felt torn.I tried to swallow but the effort only scraped the inside of my throat. My tongue was dry and heavy as I parted my lips, hoping some sound would come but nothing left me.A groan escaped my throat-- coarse and broken like I had been screaming. Had I?I pulled once and hard but the chains did not budge instead the iron cut deeper into my skin until I had to stop. Where was I?How long had I been here? The question hit hard.I tried to search my mind, but when I reached for answers-- all I could find was emptiness-- a blank slate that should have harboured my memories but still nothing. I pressed harder as I tried to drag something or anything from the shadows.Nothing came.Still nothing

▪️ Kaelis' Pov▪️“Tonight has to be perfect,” I murmured, adjusting the last silver cup on the table.“Yes, milady,” my omega replied with a bright smile, her hands busy smoothing the table cloth we had spent hours fussing over. The room glowed with candlelight, and the scent of roasted steak and spiced wine filled the air. Every detail had been chosen carefully— his favourite meal, his favourite wine, even the crimson flowers arranged at the centre of the table. Five years of marriage deserved nothing less.My chest swelled with anticipation, a rare fluttering warmth. I could already imagine the look on Valrik’s face when he walked in: the surprise, the pride, maybe even that boyish smile he tried so hard to hide from others but always gave to me.It had not been easy, being his Luna. I had stood at his side through whispers, doubts, the endless judgement of the council, but together, we had silenced them. Together, we had made the Ashfang Pack stronger than it had been in years.I
