The Luna’s body shook violently, her hands gripping the Alpha’s so tight her nails dug into his skin. Every breath she took was sharp, ragged, and trembling.

He stood beside her, jaw tight, chest heavy, eyes scanning the shadows as if danger itself had already arrived.

“We… we should have waited,” the Luna whispered, voice shaking. “What if… what if they are… right? Dangerous?”

The Alpha’s hands tightened around hers. “They are ours. That is all that matters. We protect them. Whatever comes, we protect them.”

Her eyes darted to him, wide, fearful. “We are enemies by blood, we should not have mixed. What have we done?”

The midwife gasped, rushing forward. Before anyone could speak, the first cries shattered the den. The midwife lifted the first child— a boy into the air. Tiny chest heaving, skin pale and warm yet alive.

The Luna pressed him to her chest, voice trembling. “K… Kael is safe,” she whispered. Relief pressed on her, fragile and fleeting.

Before anyone could breathe, another contraction ripped through her. She gasped, eyes wide. “Two… there’s another?”

The midwife guided the second child into the world— a girl. Tiny, delicate, fists curling sharply. Her chest rose unevenly, and a low, almost a soft growl escaped her throat even in sleep. The Luna froze.

“What… what is she?” the Luna whispered. “I do not know… what we have done. I do not know what they carry.”

The Alpha’s hands rested on both children, tense, trembling. “We protect them. That is all we can do. No one outside this room can decide their fate.”

The Luna shivered violently, blood spilling fast and unstoppable. Her body convulsed, then went still. With her last breath she whispered, “Protect them…” before her eyes dulled and closed forever.

The Alpha roared, grief and rage colliding in his chest. He held the twins tightly, staring at the two fragile lives in his arms. The boy’s chest rose and fell steadily, but the girl’s tiny fists twitched sharply, low growls slipping from her throat.

************

The throne room was quiet, the Alpha sat alone, holding the cloth of his late Luna. His gaze was dark, fixed on nothing, mind replaying the events in the den. Rage still burned through him, raw and uncontrolled.

The door burst open. The Witch Doctor stepped in, eyes blazing, voice sharp and unyielding. “Alpha! Luna! You cannot ignore this. Hear me now!”

The Alpha straightened, chest tight, jaw clenched. “Step back. She is hurt. This is not the time for riddles.”

The Witch Doctor’s gaze cut through him like a blade. “Time? There is no time. You have already brought chaos into the world. Do you not see what you have done? The union of Lycan and Werewolf… it has awakened what should never have existed.”

The Alpha’s hands tightened around the twins. “I do not understand your meaning. Explain, or leave.”

Her lips curved, a cold, terrible smile. “You do not understand, Alpha. You never could. You think you hold power in these arms, but it is only a beginning. The boy and the girl… they carry storms in their blood. Fire and shadow. One will rise and one will burn. One will bring salvation, the other… destruction. The balance is broken.”

“I will not let you threaten my children,” the Alpha growled, stepping forward. “Speak carefully, witch, or your life ends here.”

The Witch Doctor laughed, a sound sharp and bitter. “Threaten me? You could not even protect the mother who bore them.” She paced but he eyes were fixed on the alpha. “Your strength and your rage are nothing. You are too late to stop what is coming. You cannot kill fate, Alpha. You cannot kill what is already born.”

The Alpha’s hands trembled with a mixture of rage and fear. “What do you mean?”

She stepped closer, voice dropping, cold and commanding, every word hitting hard like stone. “I mean the children must not survive. Their blood… their union… it will unravel everything you hold dear. You will see death walk beside them. You will see destruction where there should be life. And when the world trembles, you will know it began with you.”

Before he could react, the bodyguard entered, dragging the struggling Omega into the room. She fought, claws flexing, eyes wild with desperation.

“She tried to kill them,” the bodyguard said sharply. “Almost succeeded. I caught her.”

The Omega sobbed, voice trembling. “I… I made a promise to the Luna. She begged me… She begged me... she said they must not survive. She feared what they were.”

The Alpha’s claws unsheathed as he walked slowly, circling the omega. One swipe, and the Omega fell still, blood splashed against the stone floor. He spoke coldly, his voice like steel. “Do not test me.”

The Witch Doctor’s laughter rang out, cruel and sharp. “You think that changes anything? You cannot protect them. Their blood… it will awaken storms. Death walks beside them. You cannot stop what is coming!”

Before she could finish, the bodyguard moved fast, striking her down. Her body hit the floor, but even as she fell, her words spilled like a curse, dark and venomous:

“The hybrid heart cannot serve two masters. One must fall or all shall fall…”

Draven's povI had known my father was many things— ruthless, cruel, impossible to reason with, but being the reason I lost Lucero… that was something I wasn't ready to face.My hands tightened around the bouquet, petals crushing under my grip. I could feel my jaw clenching, muscles tense, as anger and fear twisted together in a bitter knot inside me.Every memory of Lucero— his laughter, his loyalty, the way he had always been my anchor flashed through my mind. And now, knowing my father had stolen that from me, I felt a cold, hollow ache spread through my chest. The scent of the flowers masked me perfectly. They had no idea I had walked in, and in that small mercy, I found my advantage. If they had sensed me, I wouldn’t have uncovered what I now knew. I turned to Kaelis as her eyes were wide, like she’d seen a ghost. Shock and disbelief washed all over her as my chest tightened at the sight. I owed her answers; she deserved to know everything, but not yet. Not when the weight of wh

Kaelis's povMy body froze. It felt as though the world had stopped moving. The wind, the birds, even the rustling leaves, and everything went quiet, like someone had pulled sound out of the air.“What…?” The word scraped out of my throat. My chest tightened so fast it hurt. “Lose him? What... what do you mean?"He turned his back to me and started walking toward the house. Before he stepped inside, he looked over his shoulder.“You need to talk to him,” he said before he walked away.I stood there alone as a cold breeze blew over me. My skin felt cold, but my palms were sweaty, and my heart thumped so hard it almost hurt.I didn’t move. I just stood there, feeling scared, and I was unsure of how to face the situation at hand. But one thing was sure, I had to know the truth.I couldn’t just walk up to wherever he was. That would be rude, and honestly, I didn’t even know where he’d gone. Besides, the truth was, I didn’t know this Draven-- not this cold and distant version of him, anywa

Kaelis's povThe knot in my chest kept getting tighter, like someone was pulling it with invisible hands as it pressed there, heavy and painful, making it hard to breathe. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t think straight. Every time I closed my eyes, the memory came flooding back into my head, and it stung all over again.I wanted to tell him the truth. The words stayed on the tip of my tongue so many times, but they never came out. How could I say it? How could I explain something that would only break him more?I did it for him. I did it to keep him safe. I had no choice... absolutely none, but knowing that didn’t make it easier. It didn’t make the guilt quieter. And the worst part… the part that kept stabbing at me was knowing that I took away the one person who could have softened his pain when I couldn’t be there. The one person who could have held him together when I knew I would eventually fail. That thought alone felt like a hand squeezing my heart until it hurt to even stand sti

Draven's pov“The mid-year budget has been drawn,” the man at the projector droned on.I had no idea what he was saying. Numbers, graphs, charts, they all blurred together. I nodded politely, to show I was paying attention, though my mind wasn’t even there. My fingers tapped the pen on the table, over and over. I looked at the papers, but the numbers and charts meant nothing. My mind kept going back to that day, and to her.The way she had looked at me, the hurt in her eyes, the slap across my cheek. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. My jaw tightened, and I ran a hand through my hair, trying to shake the memory.I kept replaying every word, every move, and every little tremor in my hands. How did I let my own pride ruin my chance with her? How had I let her slip away so easily? My stomach twisted, and my chest ached.I wanted her more than anything. The thought made my heart pound and my chest feel tight. And still… I had let my pride come between us.I gripped the pen, hoping it cou

Draven's povMy heart sank as her voice echoed in my head, and my thoughts ran wild. How on earth was I supposed to say the one thing I’d avoided all my life? My chest felt tight, my thoughts scrambled like leaves in a storm. Every word I could think of sounded wrong.I opened my mouth, then shut it again. My hands itched to do something or anything but they stayed useless at my sides.“Go on,” she said, her voice soft but firm. She stood in front of me, hands folded, eyes locked on mine. Her head tilted slightly, like she could see right into me.Her patience… her calm… it made the panic inside me worse. I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat like a rock. How do you tell someone everything you’ve hidden, everything that could change how they see you forever? My eyes drifted to Elaris and Noah. Elaris’s fingers paused halfway to her mouth, popcorn forgotten, and Noah’s jaw tightened as he slowly sat back, his eyes narrowing a little. Neither of them said a word, but the change was c

Draven's povWe got home faster than I expected. The moment the car stopped, Kaelis jumped out and ran toward the house. She didn’t wait for me or didn’t even look back.I got out right after her, walking quickly, almost jogging. “Kaelis,” I called softly as I followed her inside, but she didn’t slow down. She didn’t answer me.We both froze the moment we stepped into the living room.Elaris was standing there with a huge bowl of popcorn in her hands, talking to Noah about something on the TV. But as soon as she saw us, her words died in her throat. Her eyes dragged slowly from Kaelis’s blood–soaked dress… then to me… then back to Kaelis again and her eyes didn't even blink like she would miss the moment.I swallowed hard. Then Jax walked in behind us. He was breathing hard, sweating like he had run through a storm. The moment Elaris saw him, she looked even more confused. Her brows pulled together, and her grip tightened on the bowl as a single kernel fell to the floor.“What,” she f
