Chaos

ALPHA EAST

EIGHT DECADES LATER

Logan

Closing the borders for the Lycan World was their only option. Villages and towns under their protection were evacuated. Humans, what was left, were sent to live in their world. Memories erased. All traces of their existence were wiped out.

The war with the Vampires was nowhere near ending. With power and brute force, the wolves could have easily won but the enemies hit them where it hurt the most.

Women, young and old, humans, and she-wolves were kidnapped, tortured, and killed. Over the decades, almost all of their men could no longer find the Moon Goddess's gift. Their population dwindled.

Fated mates were the main target to maim the kingdom.

Though the lands under their territories had a natural wealth, with rivers and forests, coal and gold mines, rich vegetation and game, enough to last them a lifetime, all designed by the Lycan's estranged king for the comfort of his people, everything had been useless. No pups ran freely. No women to greet their warriors. No mated pairs to share their love under the stars and moon.

Everything had become dull. Gone were the lavish parties. The grand mating ceremonies. And the pack-ran for fertility. All that was left were domes of history books secured in the castle's vaults.

They were facing near extinction. Their fears would become a reality in a few more years.

"We have secured the locations of our warriors and their mates. Their scents were masked and they are safe.  Our people in the human government gave them new identities." His Beta, Frederick informed him.

Slowly and secretly they had invaded the human world, too. Establishing businesses, taking over corporations and lands. Everything that has needed to be done to protect the remaining fated mates.

It was the last recourse he and his fellow alphas had to come up with. They had assessed the scenarios, the pros, and cons, and the existing threats. The possibility that the vampires will also send their enforcers to the human realm was a reality they had to face sooner or later.

All that was left was a total of twenty pairs sent to the bosom of the modern world. They, the Alphas will follow the pairs for protection as soon as they execute plan B. Or until the Moon Goddess blessed them again the chance to safely procreate with their fated mates.

"And the other three Alphas?" His peers, also his best friends, knee-deep in pack issues, facing the same dilemma were working tirelessly to save the kingdom.

"They are requesting for a meeting in Switzerland in a fortnight, Alpha." A coded message was sent to them today. They were ready for the second stage of their carefully well-laid plans.

"Confirm my attendance. Prepare our warriors and trackers. We are going hunting until dusk." His hatred for vampires held no bounds. They captured his father, killing and draining him of his blood, because of the link, everyone felt his suffering, eventually killing his mother when she felt the bond of their sacred union snap, making her fragile heart burst in pain.

Alpha East clenched his hands.

-Yes.-

He will have his revenge and will not stop until the last vampire's head was skewered on a sword under the heat of the sun and watch it burn.

"Bring them to the sunroom for interrogation." His voice carried over the eerie silence.

Something was not right. They were miles from his border when they found the trail of vehicles, a supply line, filled with thousands of bags of blood, leading them to their enemy's hideout.

Five human males were driving, unkept and sinister, alcohol seeped from their mixed scent.

They burned the blood-sucking leeches in their underground tombs while they captured the caretakers. Later, he would decide their fate.

These people collected blood in large quantities. Most likely stealing from hospitals and blood banks. The worst part he feared the most, a gang could be kidnapping the most vulnerable for their sick game.

The assholes could expose the supernatural to the human world and cause more chaos, the efforts he and his peers painstakingly achieved would be for naught if that happened.

This problem will be part of the items to be discussed at the meeting.

"Make sure our prisoners are well-guarded. I will deal with them when I get back." Knowing his instruction would be followed by his Beta, he went straight to his apartments at the packhouse. With a heavy heart, Logan sighed deeply. At his age, he should have met his mate. His precious woman welcoming him after a day's work, perhaps with a pup or two, jumping in his arms. But no. His place was dark. Every corner filled with painful memories. Possessing all the riches, yet he couldn't have what he desired the most. He was living a desolate existence.

Just like the future of the Eastern Pack.

The last time he and his friends had the opportunity to convene at the same place was at the Battle of Red Pines. They lost more than they could bear that day, parents, siblings, pack members, young and old. The blow was devastating. Wiping out the Vampire Clan from the South was the only positive outcome.

"It's been what? Twenty years?" Alpha West asked mockingly then gulped a generous amount of whiskey.

"More or less." Alpha East replied. Though nothing much changed on their physical appearance, owing to the fact of their Lycan genes, anyone could see the burdens on their shoulders have taken their toll on them. "What have we found out so far?"

"According to my mother's diary, the Royal Beta has taken refuged with the monks in the Himalayas and our Lycan King at the Alps." Alpha North's late mother, the Royal Beta's sister had kept her memoirs well hidden for almost a century. If not for a recent earthquake, bringing down a portion of his family's estate, they wouldn't have found the former Luna's secret vault. It was even a bigger surprise when they found out she was a Moon Goddess's messenger. "I sent some scouts to the areas but it may take a while since the mountain range is enormous not to mention the severe climate."

"I will also send some of my men to scout the Himalayan Mountains near my border." Logan casually stated since one of the borders covered part of his Eastern territory.

His fellow Alphas nodded.

"What else does it say in the diary?" Alpha West prompted.

"There was a verse written by my Mother the day our king left. That is one of the main reasons why I called this conference. Here...Take a look." Alpha North handed each one of the printed copies of the page. Scanning the words, they all tensed. Understanding the importance of the Moon Goddess's message.

Amidst the fog covers greatness. Of pure heart to be awakened. Of pure soul to be paired. My children, on a great Golden Moon, his she-wolf will be born, only then my creation will see the light and claim what is right. The heat will vanish the cold. Love will replace the pain. His union will bless his kingdom. Have faith, my Children. Never lose hope. This suffering will come to pass.

"Does this means...?" Logan couldn't finish his question. It was too painful to hope.

"Yes. It also means we have to move into the human world, soon. We have to make sure all the remaining mated couples will be guarded at all costs." Alpha North answered.

"Well, damn! After all these years.  Who would have thought?" Alpha South murmured.

"By now, our king would be in his wolf or Lycan beast for more than a century. Untamed and unpredictable. How is he going to make it work?" Alpha West, always the devil's advocate voiced out that exact same question running through their minds.

"We are going to help him make it work. It is imperative for us to do so. Our future lies in his success." Alpha North responded in a savage growl.

Surprised, they rested their gaze on him.

-Fuck! It is happening.-

The signs of an unmated Alpha's characteristics were making themselves known, his wolf slowly taking control. Just like what happened to King Demonicus, their leader.

"Since when, Marcus?" Alpha West asked. His voice was too low for the pack members to hear outside the castle's conference room.

An uncomfortable silence followed his question. With a heavy sighed, Marcus closed his eyes and answered, "a few years back." No surprised there. He was the oldest Alpha among the four of them. "This is not a support group for drunks and addicts, so spare me the lectures." Logan's lips lifted from Marcus's attempt at humor to lighten the moment.

The chuckles following his statement cleared the gloomy air giving Logan a chance to discuss the next topic.

"We have raided some tombs yesterday." Wearing a sober expression once more, he took their silence as an encouragement to know more. "The caretakers were transporting human blood in large quantities. If we don't find the head of the organization soon they will be transporting the source itself. Or sources."

"The leeches will never let us rest even for a second, eh?" Alpha South said in mock amusement disguising the anger in his tone.

"No," Logan answered.

"So, what's the plan?" Marcus asked.

"You do have a plan, right?" Alpha West seconded.

"Of course,"

"Let's hear it then. We need a distraction." Alpha South all but rubbed his hands in anticipation.

Logan hoped his plan will work. "While our men scour out our leader, I want us to attend a University and earn a degree in the human world. We could hide our scent and blend in. It is also a perfect excuse while we search for clues of the Vampire's blood source." As crazy as it sounds, he knew his plan was solid.

"How about our packs and our raids?" Alpha West queried.

Alpha East shrugged. "If anyone can manage his time and schedule perfectly, it's us."

"When do we start?"

"Any time."

Four Years Later

Shit! When he aired his plans to his fellow Alphas, he had no idea it would be this crazy. Though they studied pack histories, languages, philosophies, numbers, and theories, extensive combat training in the Lycan Realm nothing prepared them for the

idiosyncrasies

of the human syllabus

Their culture was the complete opposite of the Alphas' beliefs. Women, young and old, threw themselves at him with no qualms of self-propriety. He was so fucking tempted to take advantage of what they offered freely but his wolf will have none of it. Disgusted with the scent that was not his mate. Whoever she may be, human or she-wolf, he didn't want the guilt to cloud over him when they finally meet. He may have had the experienced of blowjobs here and there but it always felt empty when he had his release. Not to say the pain his wolf would give him after.

Logan had avoided parties ever since. He had reached his limits of exploration in that department. He wondered how Marcus and the others fared. Maybe better than him. The last time he heard Alpha North just abhorred the presence of women. Fuck! It was getting harder day by day.

Though they were searching the harsh mountains, like a fine-tooth comb, where the royals had retired to, he had to admit that they were nowhere near finding them. Their only hope was the prophecy and so far nineteen of the twenty couples they were guarding had given birth to male pups. One more to go.

Striding towards the thick tinted glass walls of his penthouse, separating his master suite to the outside world, his face tilted to the night sky. Wondering. Dreaming of the future. The sky was almost cloudless, the moon hiding its tempting mysterious beauty.

He sipped his glass of bourbon slowly, savoring the burning sensation in his throat going down to his empty stomach. This was his fifth glass and it still did nothing to him, melancholy his companion tonight.

The cell phone vibrating on his bedside table made him tense, eager for some good news.

"Yes?" His voice was terse, he could hear the deep, excited breathing on the other line.

"Alpha, this is Ron."

"What can I do for you? Is your mate okay?" Logan made a mental note to send them more money since his warrior's mate was about to gift birth anytime.

"Yes, Alpha. I...I don't know how to say this but...Jane...she gave birth to a female pup." Excitement and fear laced the warrior's words.

Logan sucked in a sharp breath and ran to his previous spot. The dark sky has cleared and a jewel graced the vast space. A Golden moon. As sheening as the most expensive of gold. There were no words to describe his gratefulness to Selene, their creator, and Moon Goddess.

'I will keep my heart, body, and soul pure for whoever you will choose for me. Let my father and mother be my witness tonight.'

He closed his eyes, relishing his promise, his heart constricted for a few seconds then it felt lighter for the first time in a long time. His mind cleared as well.

Alright, first things first.

Though there was a lull between the Lycan and Vampire conflict, it was stupid to let their guards down. He was sure the leeches were just gathering resources and will attack anytime.

"We are coming for you. Let's get your family to safety."

At last, tomorrow was promised for the Lycan Kingdom.

The Lycan Queen was born at last.
