Kyle's hands glowed brighter than before.

Blinding white light splintered outward like someone had cracked a star open on the table.

And then— The world warped around us.

We were somewhere else.

We weren't in the shabby beta house anymore.

We stood in a forest clearing soaked in moonlight.

A woman in a pale sage dress moved through wildflowers, humming a lullaby. She looked exactly like Nyx.

Same eyes.

Same face.

Same posture.

Same aura.

Except softer. Radiant. And heavily pregnant, glowing with joy.

Beta Jones— younger, sharper, with fewer wrinkles and more arrogance— walked beside her, holding her arm like he owned her.

They looked... happy.

My fists curled. My wolf snarled.

'She looks too much like Nyx.'

'Why is he touching her?'

'Why does he smile at her like that?'

I nearly ripped the illusion apart out of desperation, but Kyle kept us locked in the vision.

The pregnant woman laughed and held her belly and the memory blurred.

It was suddenly night time.

I couldn't shut my brain off. I couldn't settle my wolf, either. Everything inside that house felt like pure poison, and everything outside the tree line felt too silent. I hated it. I hated her. I hated the confusion strangling me worse. She saved me. That bitch saved my life! I watched the trees blur and sway in the rain, aimlessly, trying to pull an answer out it. None came. She saved me... but she let me rot. She hid me. She sabotaged me. She starved me, neglected me, degraded me—but never let me die. Never let anyone else kill me, either. Why? Why keep me alive if she had nothing to gain? The thought alone made my jaw clench hard enough to crack teeth. I was so deep in my head I didn't even have to turn around to feel Levi creeping up behind me. "Have you known all this time?" I asked the trees. "How much do you know?" Levi wrapped his arms around me from behind, his breath warm on the back of my neck. "I had my suspicions... but would you believe me if I said I ha

The crowd froze the second they saw blood drip down the side of my face. Even the rain seemed to hesitate. Then— "ARE YOU IDIOTS INSANE?! THAT'S THE QUEEN!!!" the old man barked at them, voice cracking desperately. Oh. Now he respects my title? Cute. A raindrop hit my cheek. Then another. Then the drizzle thickened into a light steady shower that hissed across the burning stake— snuffing it out in seconds. Kori tugged at my sleeve, voice trembling. "Y-your forehead is bleeding..." Her sudden concern almost made me want to laugh. Nothing had changed here. Same shallow, sniveling cowards. Same pack that watched me put my head on the chopping block for fun. I wiped the blood from my eye with my thumb. "Enough." The word rolled out of my chest like a real command. And then— every single person collapsed to their knees in submission to me. Gasps. Panic. Scrambling hands digging into the mud as if they could claw their way back to standing. "I—I can't move!" a man cried. "S

"They can't be that stupid!" Evan said incredulously. "They are that stupid," I shook my head. "They always have been." Kyle's voice dropped. "The person they tied up is still alive." That was all I needed to know. I sprinted. My body moved before my mind caught up — instincts sharp, blood roaring, my wolf pushing me forward. Dante might've been an idiot, but even he wouldn't burn an innocent person alive... right? Right? Wrong. Apparently my former pack had gone full medieval the moment someone stopped babysitting their collective IQ. The forest broke around me as I reached the tree line — and there it was. Chaos. Raw, screaming, pitchfork-waving chaos. A crowd gathered around a burning stake just like the one they strapped me to the day they decided I wasn't worth oxygen. Rage, saliva, accusations — the same cocktail as before. The smell of smoke, the crackling of fire, the chanting of idiots who weren't held enough as children. Déjà fucking vu. And then— A scream. "PL

We set out at dawn in Levi's precious military-grade car — the one he swore wasn't overkill even though it absolutely was. The plan was simple: Drive as far as the wheels could go. Then cut straight through the forest on the path of least resistance. Officially, we had a whole caravan of supplies, guards, tents, cooks, and assorted royal nonsense following somewhere behind us. Unofficially, Levi refused to let them travel too close because he wanted our "elite party" to move quietly. That elite party being: • me, • Levi, • Evan, • Remus strapped to my chest in a sling, • Nelson, • and a spare soldier named Kyle — the forest guy. Kyle was technically a scavenger in the military, but apparently he spent more time in the woods than actual trees. Perfect guide for a revenge tour. We'd driven most of the day before the terrain forced us out on foot. Kyle sniffed the air like a bloodhound and then pointed forward. "This path bypasses

Two weeks. Two weeks since I'd pushed a whole baby out of my body and somehow lived to tell the tale. I'd never forget that pain. Two long weeks of healing so fast the healers kept blinking at me like I was a medical glitch. Apparently magic water made my healing ability turbo-charged, and less painful and less likely paralyze me, meaning I was back on my feet in hours. And everyone treated me like I was made of glass glued together with water. Levi wouldn't let me lift a damn spoon. Elise hovered like a particularly clingy cloud. Rowan delivered pointless gifts for a few days until he gave up and just started sending gold like I needed to breathe it in. Servants tip-toed like loud noises might break me. I enjoyed the royal treatment for exactly 24 hours. Then boredom hit like a brick to the face. Remus — my tiny silver-haired, dark-eyed little copy — blinked awake in his crib and looked up at me like he already shared my pain. "We're not going to stay in this room," I told him
