I washed my hands a third time, scrubbing until my skin burned, but I couldn't rid myself of the vile feeling crawling under my ribs.

It wouldn't go away.

I couldn't calm down at all. I didn't even know what this damn feeling was, only that I hated it—sharp, possessive, ugly in a way I didn't like acknowledging.

I wanted to kill that Mandy girl just for touching Levi. Just a bit.

Am I a losing my damn mind?

"It seems like it right?" a woman's voice drifted through the bathroom door. "I mean showing up together in such a flashy manner. I mean she just resettled a few people, what's the need for a banquet?"

"The king must've been pressured by everyone else," another voice replied.

"How much of a fuss must've been made for a half breed to remain as the queen?"

"How stupid of her to think that would actually last."

"She's so full of nonsense she reminds me of those fox demons. Besides they're so awkward with each other."

"Mandy must be pissed. I mean everyone knows the king love

"You're jealous," Evan told me. "Fuck off," I hissed. "I don't get jealous." "Don't just dismiss it right away," Evan said. "What makes you think I'm jealous? What I am is annoyed that some bitch I don't even know is intruding on my life. I mean why the fuck can't I see my own damn mate for the whole day because she needs his help? How fucking long does that take? And why does she keep forbidding you to go along with him? She's wasting his time he could be spending with Remus!" I snapped. "I see a green-eyed monster," Evan sang. "Say that again and I'll zap you with lightning!" I warned him. The threat wasn't theatrical—I could feel the charge itching under my skin. I'd finally stopped making it storm in my sleep, and I hadn't even told Levi yet. Of course this would be the week my emotions decided to stabilize. Evan held a hand up. "I'm not saying it to mess with you. I'm saying it because you're mislabeling what you feel." "I'm not feeling anything irrational. I'm just being

I knew something was wrong the moment we got back home. Nyx wouldn't look me in the eye. Not once. She went straight to Remus and started fussing over him even though he was sound asleep—adjusting a blanket that didn't need adjusting, checking his breathing like she was trying not to be near me at all. She was thinking. Plotting. That was worse than her ignoring me. "Baby, please talk to me," I begged. "I am talking." No, she wasn't. She was avoiding me. That cold, surgical silence she used when i had first met her. "You keep brushing me off. What's wrong? If you just tell me I can fix it," I said. Nothing. My chest tightened. I didn't want to pull this card, but she left me no choice. "Fine. I didn't want to do this but you forced my hand. You gave your word for full transparency and we're both still under contract. Are you a liar?" That did it. She turned and finally looked at me—really looked at me—and boy was she was furious. "What the hell are you and Mandy?" "What?"

The welcome-back banquet was... lively. The hall was packed shoulder to shoulder with diplomats already half drunk, laughter spilling over polished marble floors, glasses clinking, musicians playing faster than necessary. Silk and jewels flashed everywhere. The air smelled like wine, perfume, and ambition. The moment Levi and I stepped inside, the noise spiked up another notch. "Have you been well, your highness?" some man rushed up to Levi. Levi almost pulled a face, instinct kicking in, but I nudged him sharply and he fixed it immediately. "Yes, how about you?" Levi asked. That was all it took. Diplomats swarmed him like moths to a flame. Questions, praise, subtle power plays disguised as concern. This time, though, Levi locked his hand around my arm—tight enough that escape would've caused a scene. I could have slipped away. Easily. But something told me watching the game play out would be more useful. "You're the alpha of the Mariposa pack, aren't you?" I asked one man hove

"HAHAHA!!! Look at that over there your majesty!!" The man in charge laughed hysterically, red-faced, pointing at a tree. "It stood up from the ground and greeted me!" "Ah yeah," I said flatly. Disappointing. I might not be the type who could get properly drunk, but the sweet.wine was definitely doing something nice to me. The forest around us was bursting into premature spring—buds popping open, grass too green for the season, branches leaning a little too close. I'd lost fine control somewhere between the fifth cup and the seventh toast. Evan and Nelson were definitely drunk, spinning each other around the fire and laughing too loud. Blackfoot soldiers crowded the tables, drinking, flirting, boasting. Kyle was completely out—passed out beside the campfire, an empty bottle dangling from his fingers. And Levi— Where was Levi? I stood, weaving through the celebration. "Levi?" I called over the noise. I'd just reached the edge of the feast when I was suddenly scooped off my fee

"Master," Kyle called out to me. "Thank you so much. I really don't know how to pay you back." "No, it's fine," I said, waving it off lightly. He actually did seem concerned about the land, and now that Red Fang wouldn't touch it and the refugees could return, his future was no longer dangling by a thread. Stability does wonders for loyalty. "Thanks to you I wasn't plagued by nightmares last night and neither were the other refugees," Kyle said. "The key to reviving the land was getting rid of the leadership and setting things on a better course." I studied him quietly. He looked... lighter. Happier than I'd ever seen him. No stiffness, no careful obedience, no desperation hiding behind enthusiasm. He'd been laughing all day—real laughter, careless and unguarded. The kind that can't be faked. Seeing that kind of gratitude felt like a reward in itself. Not enough to make me sentimental—but enough to be useful. "What will you do next?" he asked. "Well, Dante and his family aren't
