Jordan POV

I chase after Jayden, but Kaif takes off with him, taking control, and I know why. He wants to end it before he thinks much about it, so he needs to retrieve the dagger. Jayden knows for Mara to live, Kaif must die, and he sees no other way out. His pain crushes me, yet I have wandered from the trail and am now struggling to find my way back. I head back up the hill with no other choice, knowing it leads back to the ruins. I don’t want to wander too far and become lost. When I reach the top, I clutch my knees and try to catch my breath.

Eziah and Marabella stand arguing with Katya, who pays them no mind as she looks at the grimoire she holds. Kat’s eyes flick to me before her voice is suddenly in my head.

“Take Mara,” she says, and I swallow, trying to figure out what she is doing here and why she wants me to take Mara. Kat then tosses the grimoire into the coffin, and I move toward the ruins, slightly hesitant as I step inside the pentagram. The power emanating from the thr

Jayden POV This balance shit was really starting to get on my last nerve. We were the ones fighting the war for balance. The wolves had protected the humans from the vampires for years, fucked so many virgins year after year to keep the magic renewed in the border that separated them, kept them from becoming dinner, just for them to turn on us?Biting the hand that feeds them was not a good idea because I was going to bite back, and my bite was so much bigger. Deadlier.Stupid, naive humans had no idea how the delicate magic that held everything together always demanded something. Virgin sacrifices, an eye for an eye…nothing was free. The wolves had been paying that price for a long time. For the humans. Where was the balance there? Or maybe this was a lesson for them. If it was, I was happy to let them learn it.As long as Marabella wasn’t a part of it.“I don’t want you to find the other humans. I don’t care about them. Where is Marabella, Tabitha? Find the baby, the link, I don’t

Jayden POV“Where is she?!” I roared at my useless pack, who had searched the entire werewolf territory without finding a damn thing.Glaring down at the brand on my wrist that was stopping me from going after her myself, I contemplated removing it from my skin just to see if fate could be thwarted so easily. She had been with her mother; there should be a scent, but there was nothing.I smashed my fist into the concrete wall next to me; the mansion was in serious danger of being pummeled to death if one more wolf came back without her.The link was numb, but I wasn’t about to look too much into that, or I’d never come back from the edge.“Jayden. We’ll find her,” Brax tried to reassure me, but nothing would until I could feel her again.I was empty, my chest heavy, everything inside me a storm growing stronger and stronger, ready to explode.I turned and kicked my seat back from the meeting table. The council was trying to organize how to get her back, not because she was the essence

Marabella POVJayden grabbed the blanket and followed behind, his hand on the small of my back.We strode past Beenie and Cain. She touched my leg as I did.I peered down at her, and she gave me a small smile, nodding to Jordan who kept walking ahead, talking with Brax. I raised a brow at her, wondering what the hell she meant. She nodded at my stomach. My eyes went wide, and I looked at Jordan. She nodded again.I grinned wider, mouthing a quick thank you before catching up with my alphas.“It’s his, huh?” Jayden nuzzled into my neck.“Apparently,” I panted, his tongue grazing my skin. I shuddered, and he kissed the flesh there. It made it hard to walk, but I didn’t care. Not when he was this close.“That’s going to make him one happy alpha,” Jayden smirked, then stopped caressing me. I walked faster, wanting to get home so I could be a happy luna with them.We put the twins down; their wall was finally repaired. It had been a week since the war had ended, and we’d signed our safety

Marabella POVI lay on the soft blanket, looking up at the clear sky. The wind brushed across my body, my light white dress flowing with it.The grass around me moved with the wind, as if the blades were waving. They seemed as happy as I was to finally feel the sun. It beamed down on me, and I smiled with my eyes closed. I soaked it up, the warmth seeping into my skin.My stomach fluttered, and I grinned, holding it. It was still flat, but Cain said I would grow fast as the luna. I was excited to feel the baby inside me and build on the love that was already there for it.I turned my head to the twins who were sitting up, using their shadows to keep them up. They learned insanely fast, developing quicker than I remembered the human children in the village doing. Brax was behind Zale, ready to catch him if he fell. Jayden was doing the same for Enzi. I peered over at them and smiled; the sun highlighted them in a way that made me full of all the good things I had been missing the last

Marabella POVLucien was already there when we got there. He wore all white and smiled easily. And he was alone.I frowned, sending my shadows out to see if any others were lurking.“I’m alone. To prove this is not a setup of any kind,” he said, knowing what we were all thinking.“We’re here. Say what you need to say,” Jordan said.Lucien nodded and held his hands behind his back.“Silas has been a tyrant for the last few centuries. We’ve been under his thumb, and it has been wearying on our souls. We are vampires; we crave blood but we don’t crave violence. We live pretty solitary lives as long as our blood supply is maintained.”He looked at all of us, carrying on his plight. “Silas is dead. We don’t have to do what his will construes anymore. The hive follows me and cannot exact a will that is not my own. And what I want for the vampires? Freedom,” he said.Kind of sounded like a vampire Jordan. I liked him. My shadows didn’t recoil. My magic didn’t burn at my fingertips. My skin d

Marabella POVThe twins’ power was more than even I had guessed, flowing through me easily and entirely ready to end the threat. Our shadows moved to support the magic.“I don’t have an epic monologue about power and the future. All I have is now. And right now, I’m so fucking glad I get to kill you. Because you fucked with my family, my pack, and my children. Enjoy the afterlife, Silas. I hope it hurts like hell.”I clenched my magic around him.I tightened it and tightened it as he screamed and hissed, trying to break out. But he couldn’t.The black ash of his body puffed out of the magic and floated harmlessly around us.There was a lot of it, snowing over the room as it went silent. The magic whipped back into the twins, my own sinking far down inside me to recuperate. I let out a heavy sigh, then stumbled. There was a weakness.Jayden stepped into me, holding me up. He grimaced, and I laughed tiredly.“Jayden, you’re more hurt than I am,” I said. He shook his head and kept a hold
