Jayden POV

Pain. It was the only thing I could comprehend, that and hatred. It polluted me with every minute that passed in the dungeons with Silas. He made sure I was restrained before using every old trick in the book to get me to crack, but I wouldn’t.

He should remember that from last time. I was splayed out against the brick wall, my arms chained, my chest bare and bleeding as he whipped it. I planted my feet, roaring as I bucked against the restraints. My teeth gnashed; my wolf, enraged, tried to shift, but he kept me pinned so I couldn’t.

Silas laughed, his tall, pale frame making me murderous—more murderous than I already was. But I laughed wickedly, spitting blood at him, flashing my red eyes at him as he twirled the whip in his hands.

“, you’re going to give in. You might as well do it now.”

“C’mon, Silas, you know it’s the chase you love. So keep chasing, and I’ll keep running.”

He laughed at that, a cynical laugh that was not humorous at all.

Jayden POVThe second he let my mate out of those cuffs, her magic would fuel the pack with strength, and they would send it straight back to us. We would heal, we would survive. Then it would be Silas’s turn. That thought was the only thing keeping me as strong as I had been.“I want you whether we’re tied to a wall or back home. I always will, Little Luna, you should know that by now,” I responded before I could get too lost in my rage and revenge plans.“I do.” She gave a half-hearted smile, then turned her head to me, leaning against the wall as her eyelids dropped a little. I grabbed her hand where it was shackled next to mine and held it.“We’re going to get out of here,” I promised, and she locked her gaze on me.“I thought that was true, but now, I’m not so sure,” she whispered, and I licked my dry lips before reassuring her.“We will,” I said, planning on giving her a speech about Zale and Enzi, Jordan and Brax. I wanted to remind her why she was fighting so she kept going, b

Jayden POV“Good, because they are going to hurt us, use us against each other, and I need your word that you are not going to give in to save me. You are my mate, and it is going to kill me to see them hurt you, but it’ll be worse for you Silas will make sure of it.He wants you to give in, and you can’t let that happen. Do you get what I’m telling you? Can you do this?” I asked.I needed to hear her say it, to see the fire in her eyes that drew her to me in the first place. I was a moth to a flame when it came to her, and I had to keep that flame burning. No matter what. She nodded quickly and looked toward the door, then back at me.“I can’t get to my magic or my shadows. They’re locked inside me.”“And they’ll stay that way until those cuffs are off,” I grimaced, but she just looked scared.“Jayden, without my magic…the wolves…” She breathed, and my eyes went wide. I had been focused on her; I hadn’t considered what it would mean for the wolves back in the city.Jordan would have,

Brax POV Heather smiled sadly and shook her head.“They won’t come. They know you guys are a target and have vamps everywhere. They won’t risk it, and they will think it’s a trick,” she shrugged, and pain pierced me again. Fuck it, why was I the pushover?I let out a deep sigh before looking over my shoulder and back at her.“The water villages aren’t being used by the humans. The rogues can hide out there if they want, and we’ll talk about you joining us again once I get my mate back.Until then, I can’t promise anything,” I said, and she lit up.“You said she’s being held by the vamps?”I nodded.“And if I help get her back, you would consider taking me back?”“It’d be up to her.”“I can help; they had me locked up there for a while. I can get them out.”My heart raced at that before I narrowed my eyes.“How do you know how to get them out? How did you?” I demanded, my wolf burning but my shadows calm, and that held me at bay.“I look like a weak little thing, but I can hold my own

Brax POVThe water locked me in, and I frowned, my shadows thrashing around me. I tried to kick off the lake bed, but the water wouldn’t let me go. It held me in place, and my eyes flung open, trying to see a way out, but instead, I saw something that had me collapsing into the sand.Marabella.She was hanging against a wall, bloodied and bruised, her head hung, her arms out, shackled in silver clasps with the same magic binding seal on them.I tried to reach out in front of me, to the vision, shimmering in the water, but it swiped it away. I scrambled for it, making my lungs ache, my eyes burn, but I didn’t care. I needed more. The lake gave it to me.Marabella appeared again, my shadows crowding the image as they tried to get to her too.She was in the same place, on the same wall, in the same abused state, and I tried not to scream. But the alpha in me, the mate in me, was already there, screaming, clawing at my insides, trying to break free. But the lake kept us both there, starin

Brax POVIt wanted to rip his fucking head off for the way he spoke, but the other part of me?It knew he was right.“She never told me. Just let me hate her.”“She’s a huge fan of people coming to these things and feeling on their own. I’m not,” he said.“I owe her an apology,” I admitted.Cain nodded. “Yeah.”“Next time I see her, I’ll make it right,” I promised, putting it off for a bit. I knew what I had to do, but I wasn’t in the right headspace to fix that part of my life at the moment.I needed to think about what I wanted to say and exactly how to say it before I stormed in there with a sorry that I could only half-ass because I wasn’t sure what I was apologizing for.“I’m going to check on Beenie,” Cain said finally before leaving me to stew in my regret. It was a fierce one too. I swallowed and looked over the twins. They weren’t asleep, just looking, and I smiled down at them. How two little things, tiny things, could change everything so drastically was beyond me, but I di
