Rose's POV

“It’s good to see you again, Laura,” Kavian finally spoke, his voice smooth, low, but laced with something unreadable.

Laura’s gaze landed on him, and instead of looking away immediately, she studied him—longer than usual, her sharp green eyes narrowing slightly, like she was trying to see through him.

“What exactly do you want with my friend?” she asked, tone clipped and edged with suspicion.

“Laura—” I cut in quickly, heat already rising to my cheeks. Her bluntness made my insides twist. I wasn’t ready for this conversation—especially not like this.

But Laura wasn’t having it. “No, Rose. I have to ask him because clearly something is going on between the two of you. Have you even told him about the suitor situation yet?”

The air in my lungs turned cold. I swallowed tightly, my heart starting to race again—but for a very different reason now.
