Rose's POV

We didn’t dare stand too close to the courtroom, but we lingered within earshot, tucked near one of the stone columns that flanked the outer hall. My fingers twisted anxiously at the hem of my sleeve while Laura leaned casually against the wall beside me, though I knew her nonchalance was a performance for anyone who might be watching.

The large oak doors creaked open, and the last girl—her—stepped out. My heart lurched. She was the one Laura had arranged everything with, the girl paid to play her part in our carefully spun story. Laura leaned toward me slightly.

“That’s her,” she murmured under her breath, eyes narrowing as she studied the girl’s face.

We both watched intently, trying to decipher what lay behind the girl’s expression. Her eyes were wide and a little glassy, her steps brisk but not frantic. No guards followed her. No stern voices called her back. She didn’t look like someone who had been accused of lying… or caught in one.

But still, there was something unr

Author's POV“No.”The single word cut through the air with finality, sharp enough to halt Shirin in his tracks. His head tilted, brows knitting as if he’d just been told the impossible.“No?” he echoed, his voice laced with incredulity. “What do you mean by no?”“I mean I’m not doing that,” Kavian said, each word deliberate, his tone flat with resolve.Shirin blinked at him, then gave a short, disbelieving laugh, as though Kavian had made a poorly timed joke.“What do you mean you won’t do it? Don’t start this now. You can see I’m still hard. Just go to her, lay with her, and when it’s done I’ll step in. The switch will be seamless—she won’t even realize.”Kavian’s jaw tightened further, his fists curling at his sides. His silence stretched, heavy, before he finally spoke again.“I’m serious, brother. I can’t. I won’t.”He turned from Shirin, his cloak catching in the night air as if to shield him from his brother’s stare. But Shirin wasn’t so easily dismissed. He moved quickly, foot

Rose's POVThe look on Kavian’s face made guilt twist through me until it hollowed my stomach. His silence pressed down on me, heavy, accusing, as though I’d demanded something cruel and impossible of him. Wicked, selfish. And yet, were my wishes truly so unrealistic? To want to see the truth of him—the raw, unguarded part that only his changing eyes seemed to hold? His lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile, more like a resigned grimace. “So what now? You’re really going to leave me hanging like this?” His voice was low, almost teasing, but his hand dropped toward the hardness straining beneath his trousers, his brow quirking with dry amusement. “Because clearly my body didn’t get the message.”Heat rushed up my neck and I bit back a laugh, the sound escaping anyway, awkward and guilty. “Sorry,” I said, half chuckle, half apology, feeling foolish and tender at once.“Fine.” He pushed off the bed with a fluid grace, the sheets shifting around me as the absence of his wei

3 hours earlier Author's POV The fierce conviction in his voice lit a spark in his sons. Their jaws tightened, shoulders squaring as though his words had sewn iron into their spines. They exchanged glances—silent, weighty looks that carried both understanding and unspoken fears. At last, one by one, the brothers nodded, their earlier frustration ebbing into something steadier. In that moment, it was not only loyalty to their father that bound them but the vow he had voiced: never to abandon the search for the Phoenix wolf, never to surrender hope of saving their mother.Armon’s gaze lingered on them, pride gleaming in his sharp eyes. For all their strength and savagery, they were still his sons—his legacy. His tone softened, yet carried the unshakable gravity of command.“Good. Then prepare yourselves. War is coming, and Ashwood will soon feel the weight of our might.”The brothers bowed their heads in unison, the gesture solemn, and turned to leave.Their makeshift quarters sprawle

Rose's POVYesterday, when I told Tristan about Kavian, his reaction cut deeper than I expected. He freaked out—his voice sharp, his eyes wide with betrayal. But what wounded me most wasn’t his anger, it was the disappointment in his face. The kind of look that makes your chest ache because you know you’ve let someone down without meaning to. We’re best friends—always have been—so of course he’d feel hurt that I kept something from him. Still, I can’t help but wonder… what if I had gone further? What if I had told him the truth that even I can hardly admit to myself—that I am in love with Kavian? He’d probably think I’d lost my mind. Maybe I have. Because honestly, nothing in my world makes sense anymore without him. Somehow, in such a short time, Kavian has stolen everything from me—my heart, my thoughts, even the quiet in my soul. He is still a mystery, a storm I cannot fully understand, and yet my life feels incomplete when he is not near. How does that even happen? How does someon

Author's POV The heavy silence in the tent broke as Alpha King Armon finally entered, his presence commanding every gaze. His steps were steady, deliberate, and the weight of his authority seemed to ripple through the air. The brothers straightened immediately, along with the gathered betas, warriors, and advisors, each bowing their heads in respect before resuming their seats around the great oak table.Spread across the table was a vast map, its surface scarred from years of use, inked with markings of borders, rivers, and battle lines. The flickering lanterns hanging from the tent poles cast uneven light across it, shadows dancing like restless spirits.Armon’s voice, deep and resonant, filled the space. “I know you all must be wondering why I called this meeting so suddenly.”A ripple of agreement passed through the men, a chorus of murmurs and nods. The Alpha King’s expression hardened, his jaw tightening as his eyes swept across them. “A message has come to me from across the s

Rose's POV“A… friend?” His voice stumbled over the word, like he couldn’t bring himself to believe it. His face had gone stiff, disappointment and something darker pooling in his eyes. “And when exactly were you planning to tell me about this?”“I’m sorry,” I whispered, guilt rushing in like a tide I couldn’t hold back. “I was just… waiting for the right time.” But even as I said it, the excuse felt thin.Tristan shook his head slowly, confusion painted across his features. “How did you even meet him? Because I don’t understand, Rose.”I drew in a sharp breath, my throat tightening, and forced myself to speak. “At the Moon Festival.” My voice softened as the memory resurfaced, sharp and bright. “I snuck out of the house that night… and that’s when it happened. Six men from the Nightshade Wolves cornered me.” The words left my lips heavier than I expected, carrying the fear I had buried for weeks. “They tried to take advantage of me, Tristan. And if Kavian hadn’t been there…” My voice
