Kayden’s pov

I took the steps two at a time, my boots crashing on the cold stone stairs as I ran back down. The palace was quiet, sunlight slanting in through narrow windows and striping the hallway before me, but I hardly saw any of it. Mira—or, rather, what she’d said—filled my head. Her eyes on mine as she murmured her words—and more questions had bubbled up in me. I clapped a hand to my forehead and forced them back.

Well... there was one place where my mind always made tracks away from questions.

I threw open the thick doors and stepped inside. The room was large and stocked with weapons—a practice haven along every wall—combat dummies stood with doll arms ready for practice nearby.

Quiet meant empty. Good. I would stay in this empty training hall and train till my arms fell off.
