Kayden’s pov

I slammed my door shut behind me, the sound bouncing back to me off the surrounding walls. Still my heart was pounding and I couldn’t stand still. Running my hands through my hair over and over I walked from one side of the room to the other. My breath came in rough gasps and when I looked down at myself I saw that my fists were clenched so hard that my knuckles shone white.

“What was that?” The words barely left an imprint on the empty air as they fell out of my mouth with only a whisper.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to focus and push the memory away. But it was still there, burning in my mind.

The feel of her body pressed against the table, the way she’d looked up at me with those wide unblinking eyes. Her lips had been mere inches from mine and if that friend of hers hadn’t showed up…

I shook my head forcefully trying to rid myself of the unwelcome thought.

What in the hell was I doing? My eyes narrowed and I groaned as I rubbed a hand down my face feeling heat ri

Kayden’s povI was still trying to steady my breathing, the crisp night air making me shiver. My hands were still balled into fists, and my arm still stung from that guy’s knife. I should have gone home. But I just needed… I didn’t know what I needed. Some air maybe? Everything happened too quickly in there. Then I heard footsteps by my right, slow and rhythmic along with the chilled breeze. I turned to see who it was as I saw it was the dude from training earlier who’d taken me down was now at my side.He smirked seeing my expression which frankly, I wasn’t surprised by. “You really made a disaster of things in there, didn’t you?” He asked with his cool even tone.I raised an eyebrow at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”“The place is practically in ruins. Bodies everywhere.” He tilted his head back towards the bar I’d just come from. “Not bad for a prince.”I stopped moving and looked at him. “You were in there?”He shrugged, not breaking his stride. “I was.”I took a step closer,

Kayden’s povThe woman beside me took my arm in a tight grip, her terror imbued eyes fixated on mine. Her hushed tone trembled with fear. “I’m begging you to leave. It’s not worth it,” she pleaded. “Please they are dangerous and I don’t want you to get hurt because of me.”I examined the woman closely, her fingers wrapped around my flesh as if she were clinging onto reality itself. Eyes pooled with fear met my own and the distinct shiver of her body could be felt through mine as well. My fist clenched at my side while I thought of those words silently. After much deliberation, I gave one short nod.“Alright…” I turned, gripping her hand and beginning to push through the crowd. I felt their eyes all over me, their voices whispering around us. My heart pounded but I kept going, I just wanted out of here. Out of their gaze, away from whatever threats may lie beyond that door. Before we could move even a step an obvious laugh sounded in the room; a low bellow that filled it with arrogant

Kayden’s povI leaned back against the bar, the music vibrating deep in my bones. I swirled my drink around the glass, fascinated with how it looked like both liquid gold and liquid silver under the shifting disco ball. I thought maybe if I came here—drank until everything went numb and disappeared, I would be able to forget. But I couldn’t. Another slow sip burned down my throat as I surveyed the swirling mass of sweaty bodies on a shameless display in front of me. So many half naked women walking around like they needed to be touched by a man or woman. And it was then that I saw her.A tall woman with dark hair and a smile that could melt rocks. She caught me looking at her as she stopped dancing and walked to me.“Hello, handsome,” she smiled. Her voice was smooth, her eyes sharp and bright. “You look like you could use some company.”I clinked my glass to hers and smiled, even if I was again the one smiling against my will. “Maybe I do.”She nodded and brushed her fingertips aga

Mira’s pov“I… don’t know,” he said as I could hear his wolf growl with anticipation.“Someone… could… see us,” I gulped as he sighed.“I know,” was his dumb reply. He locked eyes with me, and slowly he moved closer, and closer. The space between our lips vanished into thin air as he drew near. I wanted him so badly but knew that if anyone caught us we would be in big trouble.I couldn’t tear away from him as I was paralyzed by his touch.Just when our lips were about to touch we heard someone behind him.“Hey, Mira!” As we both separated from each other almost immediately for me to see Zane standing in the doorway with raised brows.Kayden’s fingers loosened on me slightly, his face growing harder as he stepped back to move away. Then slowly the spell was broken. The pressure popped and snapped in the air around us both and I sucked in a breath shakily, my gaze darting back and forth between Kayden’s suddenly darkened face and Zane’s confused look.Kayden straightened taller to his

Mira’s povThe dining room had gone silent once my parents stood up to leave. My mother and Alpha Remy had gotten up smoothly to their feet, excusing themselves to have a meeting with the pack elders. They had smiled cordially, nodded at us, and then walked out the heavy wooden doors clicking shut behind them, leaving me behind alone with Kayden. I hadn’t moved the whole time, just sat there staring at my food, half eaten, still glinting back at me under the chandelier as the servants came in to clean everything up. They were silent too, the only sound in the room was their soft padded footsteps on this polished floor as they did so and yet still I didn’t rise from my chair. Instead I kept my hands delicately folded in my lap as they reached across me removing dishes.Kayden sat there opposite of me chewing quietly on a gum he had retrieved from his pocket after our parents had left, not sparing me from his stare. The minute the maids were gone, I got to my feet to leave. I looked

Mira’s povI focused on what I was eating when Alpha Remy cleared his throat in an attempt to start up a discourse.“I think it’s about time we start talking about merging our packs,” Alpha Remy announced, and with a mental sigh I stopped eating. “The Dusk Moon Pack and the Blue Crescent Moon Pack have been apart for long enough. And since we’re one big happy family now, I think it’s also time to get serious about joining the packs together as well.”Setting my fork down on my plate, I glanced up quickly to see both my mother and Luna in one package agree in thoughtful silence as she nodded. “I couldn’t agree more honestly… but it won’t be easy. It requires changing the minds of leaders who cling too strongly to their own tradition sometimes.”Alpha Remy nodded. “That is why we must be strategic. We need to make them see the benefits. A larger pack means more strength. More resources. And of course, more protection for our people.”Kayden finally looked up, his eyes sharp and focused.

Mira’s povI got up from bed and felt a sharp wince in my side as I shook my head. I was still healing. With a stretch, I looked at the darkening window and shrugged. My life would never go back to the way it used to be. But I would distract myself from this moment I was living in.I was just about to give up and roll away from my bed when my phone made a loud buzzing noise on my nightstand. The sound caused me to jump, my heart skipping in the process and taking a deep breath I tried to steady myself before going over to pick it up and saw that it was a message. I furrowed a brow as I swiped across the screen. The number wasn’t one that I had saved and it had ‘Unknown number’ written down. My heart sped even more as quickly as my eyes took in what had been sent to me while feeling all of the blood within me growing icier than ice itself. It read: “I know what you did with your step brother, you dirty slut!”My breath caught in my throat. I read the words again, my eyes growing wider

  • Mated to My New Stepbrother    Chapter 12

Kayden’s povI shook my head, stopping myself not to look at him as I pretended I didn’t hear him. I ignored him this first time. “ I wasn’t thinking about anyone,” I said trying to sound casual but Sam was not convinced.“Gods, you’re such a bad liar,” he said laughing and he bumped into me with his shoulder as if trying to provoke me. “I bet you were thinking of her. You know… your beautiful step-sister, Mira...” He drawed her name all slow and soft making his voice sound all dreamy as if he was part of some lovie-dovie play.I stopped walking and turned to him, narrowing my eyes. “Cut it out, Sam.” I told him.He just laughed and put his arms behind his head. “Seriously, though, man,” he said, not taking me seriously in the least. “How do you handle it? Mira’s smoking hot. I’m surprised you haven’t tried to tap that yet.”My fists clenched at my side. “I said cut it out,” I repeated, my voice lowered this time, and heat rose to my face, and it wasn’t from the training. He could see
