Darian's POV

The Elders didn't linger. Once they were satisfied that we were physically inside the suite and the heavy oak doors were shut, they retreated to whatever dark corner of the mansion they inhabited. With how large it was, we could go months without even seeing each other. The guards took up their posts downstairs leaving us by ourselves.

We didn't talk. The exhaustion of the run and the shock of the new living arrangements were too much for conversation. We just retreated to our sep

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

Valen’s POV Spending time with Raven filled me with a special kind of joy that I still wasn’t quite used to. It was like a constant warmth under my skin. After a bit of back-and-forth, she eventually decided to skip the shower for now and do it after training. Darian, looking like he had nothing better to do with his afternoon, decided to tag along as well.We headed down to the training basement. Raven had changed into a pair of shorts that Goddess knows where she got from. They hugged her sumptuous ass deliciously, and I found myself staring a second too long before I caught Darian’s eye. He was standing off to the side, feet apart and arms crossed, looking like a stern soldier reporting for duty. The sun was already setting, casting long shadows through the open space. It was the perfect time for a workout."So, what are we doing today?" Raven asked. She looked a little nervous, shifting her weight. "I literally almost died this morning. Shouldn't I be resting?"She looked at me w

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

Raven's POV"We had a past," Darian blurted out.He looked incredibly uncomfortable, shifting in his seat like the cushions had suddenly turned into hot coals. Valen wasn’t helping at all; he was leaning back with a smug expression, letting out random chuckles at Darian’s obvious misery.I gave Darian a long, flat look. Okay? I thought. I wasn't naive. I knew a man like Darian hadn't been waiting around for me to appear especially given how old he is. He was a King, and a handsome one at that. It wasn't the fact that he had been with other people that bothered me, it was that it was Celeste. The thought of her hands on him, or him looking at her the way he looked at me, made my stomach turn. But what was done was done."I’ll be back," I told them. I needed to clear the air, and I needed to see that woman one more time before the trial.I walked out of the lounge but halfway down the hall, I realized I had no idea where she actually was. I spun around, marched back, and kicked the loun

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

Raven's POVIt was actually so cute to watch the Kings make up. Seeing Darian and Valen finally sharing a heartwarming moment was almost as shocking as my hair turning purple. Currently, Valen was looking at me with so much shock, his face still flushed from the hug.A soft knock interrupted the moment, and two staff members entered carrying heavy wooden trays of food. They set them on the low table in the center of the lounge, bowed quickly, and scurried out. The smell of roasted meat and fresh bread filled the room, making my stomach growl. Then, Valen’s face exploded into a smirk. It was a slow, dangerous look that made my heart do a nervous little flip. It was my turn to look unsure."Em..." I started, taking a cautious step back.He lunged for me.I let out a shriek and jumped out of reach, scrambling over the arm of a chair. "Valen! Stay back!""Don't run, little mate," he purred, his eyes dark and playful. "I will chase you, and when I catch you..."He left the sentence open-en

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

Darian's POVToday was the worst day of my life. I’ve faced a lot of dark moments—the weight of a crown I wasn't ready for, the politics of the South, and even the day my father died. But none of those compared to the hollow, icy terror that had gripped me this morning. Standing in that dining room, watching the light fade from Raven’s eyes while I stood there useless... I never wanted to feel that again. That helplessness had turned into a cold, hard resolve. I wasn't going to be merciful. I didn't care that Celeste and I were once close friends. I didn't care that our families had ties going back generations. She had tried to extinguish the soul of my fated mate.Darian. Sage whispered in the back of my mind. My wolf’s voice was uncharacteristically small. She’s fine, right? How about we go check on her again? Just one more time?"I’m sure she’s fine, Sage," I muttered under my breath as I marched through the hallway. "I left her with Valen. He’ll protect her."I was heading toward

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

Raven's POVMy mind was spinning. Who was I? Was I still the same Raven, or had I turned into someone else entirely?Panic flared in my chest as I remembered Eva. I hurriedly reached into my mind, searching for that familiar presence. To my massive relief, I felt her—but she was distant, like she was curled up at the far end of a long hallway. I couldn't blame her, we had literally just died. The fact that she was there at all was a miracle."Wolf mage," the quiet female Elder said. Her voice was ominous, cutting through the heavy silence of the room.Everyone looked at her, then back at me, as if I were a ticking time bomb. Elder Fabian stroked his chin, his eyes narrowed in curiosity. "So, is it light or dark?"The woman tilted her head, her gaze fixed on the violet glow still fading from my eyes. "I am fairly certain it is light."I was losing my mind. "What is light and dark?" Darian asked, his voice shaking. I was glad he asked, because I couldn't even find my voice to speak."Th

  • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

Raven's POV I had woken up feeling a strange, bubbling excitement. It was like a bundle of nerves had settled in my stomach, a stone waiting for something big to happen. I didn’t know if it was because the sun was out or because I was heading down to breakfast with both my mates, but I felt good.We were in the dining room already and Valen smiled at me as he passed me a cup of tea. It was my favorite unique flavor, the one that smelled like blueberries. I was so excited to taste it.I took two sips. The flavor was perfect—for about three seconds. Then, a searing heat exploded in my gut. It was like someone had poured liquid fire directly into my stomach. I felt the blood drain from my face instantly."Raven?" Valen called my name, but his voice sounded like it was coming from the end of a very long tunnel. My fingers went numb. I lost my grip on the porcelain cup, and it shattered against the floor, spraying tea and shards of white across the rug. My vision went dark at the edges, a

Darian's POV Watching them lead Raven toward the center of the courtyard made my jaw tighten. • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER TWELVE

Raven’s POVThe silence that followed the messenger’s announcement was broken by a sound I didn’t expect. Valen burst into laughter. It was loud and full of mockery. • Mated to Rival Kings   CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Raven's POVWhen I stepped back into our room, the air felt different. It wasn't the comfortable, messy chatter I was used to. Sheila and Dan were sitting on their beds, and as soon as I walked in, they sat up straight, their eyes wide. They were keeping a strange, respectable distance from me, lik
