Lyra's POV

My hands went sticky from the meat, but I hardly noticed. My head was spinning because of her name; he just dropped like it was nothing.

“Why is she coming?” I asked, trying to sound casual, indifferent even, but I heard the sharpness in my own voice.

He leaned in a little more, elbows resting on his knees. "News of the fight spread faster than I thought. Word is, the Omega who led the charge is now an Alpha overnight." He smiled weakly, as if it was something to boast about. "Ruth may wish to visit her stepdaughter. Maybe even offer condolences to Orion for Ben."

My stomach churned. Stepdaughter. The word was bitter on my lips.

Kira leaned back in her seat, stroking the back of her hand over her mouth. "I don't know her, but I know everything about her. She's mean. Brutal. There's a rumor she killed Ravenna's father."

My blood ran cold. I didn't shift my face, didn't blink, but I felt something within me shatter.
