Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Cheyenne finally made it back home with questions racking her mind. The man she saw was by far the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen and no man had made her feel the way he did.

He made her want to run straight into those strong arms of his. He just breathed protectiveness, his energy was so breathtaking. She wanted him. She just wanted him.

Yet, she felt as though something about him was strange. He had the same name as that wolf she had saved but maybe he just named him after him but she could never forget those eyes.

Those eyes she got lost in at the clinic that held so much warmth and tenderness, that resembled so much of a human.

“Skylar...” She whispered to herself as she sat on her couch staring at the blank TV screen.

She jumped a bit when her phone went off in her back pocket and grabbed it.

She read Skylar on the screen.

Cheyenne couldn’t fight off the smile on her face when she opens the text and read;

“Hey Beautiful.”

She read over those two words several times and couldn’t figure out why they had such an affect on her.

She decided she’d text him back.

“Hey there. :)”

Cheyenne watched the three little dots pop up on her phone screen and tapped her thumb nail nervously.

“What are you up to?”

“Nothing really.”

“Are you going to tell me the place we are going or are you going to leave me in suspense? :)”

Cheyenne smiled slyly and began to type.

“It’s an art gallery on Carter Street.”

“I can’t wait. ;)”

“I’m glad.”

Cheyenne waited for the bubble to pop up again and after it didn’t for a couple of seconds she sighed and locked her phone.

She decided she’d turn the tv on and maybe watch some Netflix. It was about five in the evening, Greta wouldn’t be here for a bit longer.

She got comfy on the couch and let some random Disney movie play out.

Cheyenne had fallen asleep during the movie and faded awake when she heard the door bell ring. She didn’t think she heard it at first so she closed her eyes once more, only for them to shoot open again when the door bell rang again.

She groaned and got up off the couch rubbing her eyes to look at the time.

7:47pm

“Oh crap, Greta.”She loudly whispered to herself.

Pushing herself off the couch, Cheyenne went to the door opening it to be greeted by the old gray haired woman.

“Hey dear, I take it you forgot about me, huh?“

“Of course not. I just over slept is all.” Cheyenne said, letting her in.

“Well, I’m glad you at least got some rest.” Greta smiled.

“You could say that.”

Greta made her way to the small kitchen and set a rather large bag down.

“What’s in the bag, I bought groceries like you asked.”

“Oh, I know you did, I just didn’t know if you had the pots and pans I needed so I just brought these.”

Cheyenne nodded, understanding because she didn’t cook much. It’s not that she couldn’t cook because she definitely could, she just never wanted to.

“Can I help with anything?” Cheyenne asked.

“Of course, dear. Wash those hands and start chopping those veggies.”

Cheyenne smiled and did just that. Once she began to chop up the veggies, she decided to start small conversation with Greta.

“How was work?”

“Oh, it was fine dear. Nothing new. No emergencies, just the regular check ups.”

“Oh?” Cheyenne asked, slicing the large knife through the already small tomato.

Greta was filling up a pot with water from the sink.

“Well something interesting did happen today, now that I remember.” Greta said, placing the water filled pot on the eye of the stove, turning it on high.

“Yeah? What was it?”

“A man came by today.” Greta said, pointedly.

Cheyenne still oblivious continued to cut tomatoes and wait for Greta to continue.

“A beautiful man at that.” Greta said.

“A beautiful man? What did he need?” Cheyenne smiled slightly at Greta’s choice of words.

“He was looking for you.”

Cheyenne stopped chopping the tomatoes and turned her full attention on Greta.

“What man was this, Greta? What did he look like?”

Cheyenne couldn’t believe what she was hearing. A man showing up at her work asking for her. Cheyenne’s heart dropped, thinking about the god awful man who used to make her suffer for days on end.

Had he finally found her? Had he come to take her back and torture her for running a few years ago.

“A dark caramel skinned man, with long brown hair. Hazel eyes. He looked like he’s from Native American descent. Quite handsome, that man.”

A wave of relief washed over Cheyenne nearly knocked her over.

It was Skylar.

“W-what did he want?”

“He wanted to thank you, for saving his wolf.”

“Oh.” Cheyenne mumbled, turning away from the old woman, continuing her task of cutting tomatoes.

“You want to know something funny, Cheyenne?”

Cheyenne tenses a bit at Greta using her name instead of calling her ‘dear’.

“I don’t ever remember you saving a wolf. In fact, we rarely get wolves and I always remember your successes.”

The sound of the knife hitting the cutting board seemed to grow louder as the silence stretched on.

“Now would be where you tell me the truth, Cheyenne.”

Sighing and putting the knife down, turning again to give Greta her full attention, Cheyenne explained.

“The wolf was a gun shot victim–“ Cheyenne started, watching Greta’s face turn wide.

“And you didn’t tell me?!” Greta asked, loudly.

“No, Greta and for a reason. They didn’t want anyone to know and confidentiality is a rule.”

“So is notifying the police at any gun shot victim!”

“Okay, I know, I get it.”

Greta sighed and Cheyenne turned away again looking at the tv that was still playing Netflix and her phone sitting on the coffee table.

She wondered if Skylar had ever texted her back but realized that now was not the time to be thinking about him.

“If you weren’t so close to me, you’d get released.”

“Greta, I understand! But if I reported it, it would’ve brought unwanted attention! They could loose they’re wolf! You know better than anyone, I can’t tear a family like that apart.”

Greta frowned but sighed realizing Cheyenne was right.

“I understand, please just don’t lie to me anymore. I don’t appreciate it.”

Cheyenne nodded.

“Of course.”

“Now are you finished with those tomatoes?”

“Yeah, they’re as small as I can get them.”

Greta nodded and threw some noodles in the hot water after taking them out of the box and breaking them.

Time went on as Greta told Cheyenne the secrets of her infamous pasta and exactly how much of everything to add into it.

“This spice gives the noodles a bit of a twang. Flavor.”

“And the tomatoes are just for decorating.”

“You have to make the pasta look edible, dear.”

Cheyenne chuckled and put the noodles on a plate, put the mixed sauce over it then decorated the plate and noodles with tomatoes.

“It doesn’t look bad.” Cheyenne smiled.

Greta nodded in agreement smiling just as much as Cheyenne.

“Now eat it.”

Cheyenne looked at Greta and smiled, pulling a drawer open for a fork and picking a tomato, swirling the noodles around the fork and eating it.

“Oh my goodness, Greta!” Cheyenne exclaimed muffled.

“Good isn’t it?”

“Mhm, definitely.”

The night continued on with Greta and Cheyenne watching a couple of episodes of The 100’s on Netflix.

“Thanks again, Sky for going to the grocery store.”

Skylar smiled and nodded.

“Sure, you want me to do the dishes, too.” Skylar asked sarcastically.

“Would you please? You’re so kind.” Nadia said.

Skylar roller his eyes and chuckled.

“I wouldn’t mind that, no.”

“Thanks, I’ve got to get Taylor and Cameron ready for bed.”

“Kiss them good night for me.” Skylar smiled, getting up from the table and to the sink.

“I will be sure to.”

Nadia jolted as Skylar looked up immediately at the ceiling at the banging going on upstairs.

“What are they doing up there?”

“You know Chaskai.”

“He’s riling them up, they won’t go to sleep with all that energy.”

Skylar chuckled as he washed the pots out and stuck them in the dish washer.

“Good luck, then.”

“Good night, Sky.” Nadia sighed, making her way upstairs and disappearing.

Skylar continued the dishes, quietly and let his mind wander to his mate. He thought about how gorgeous she was and how shy but slightly witty she was.

He loved her immediately.

Skylar smiled when he heard Chaskai playfully roar and Nadia sqeal followed by a slight thump.

He couldn’t wait for that to be his family.
