Chapter 2

Kaleen stared outside the window, now dressed and dolled up by her personal maids.

"My lady, I already placed your precious dresses in your traveling bag." Clarin had spoken from behind.  "Will there be carriage to take you to your destination? I booked for one but the king's men denied it."

Kaleen knew it was the doing of her father as his last resort to stop her from doing such madness.

"There is no need for that, Clarin. I'm sure there shall be many horses to take me there."

"But you got so many things to carry. I don't think that would be wiser." Clarin said thoughtfully.

"Clarin, you are so unnecessarily thinking too much. I wouldn't be a princess in that kingdom of the fangs. So , toss the idea of letting me bring dresses. There won't be any occasion that I'd be wearing one."

"You are and will always be a princess." Clarin said.

Kaleen smiled at that. "The princess who made a deal to the fangs."

"Everyone was well aware why you are doing that." Clarin said.

"Apparently, not everyone appreciated it as doing so will only stain the reputation of the kingdom and the royal family."

"Princess, if you are only aware how the people loves and adores you. The one who stood with them in  this time of uncertainty. The one who didn't run away along with the other princesses and the queen."

Kaleen turned to her back, watching the earnestness of Clarin as she spoke so. "I don't blame them  from running away." she looked down to her feet donned with beautiful pair of shoes as if she would be attending a ball rather than entering the gate of hell.

Maybe she should consider changing into her battle suit rather than appear to be someone  desperate to catch the attention of the king of the vampires. It was madness to even bother to appear in such a fashion when that Marcus didn't deserve any ounce of it.

Or was she only defensive to herself? That no matter how she would be dolled up from head to toe, she couldn't be half beautiful as those women in vampire community. Those were ridiculously beautiful that it felt unfair to stare at those soulless beasts to be looking like the goddess of the ancient.

A passing entertainment. That would be her role in Marcus life in his large castle.

Kaleen didn't care much. So long as he rid her kingdom of those vile werewolves then she wouldn't mind much about her role in his life.

"If you tell me to come with you. I will." Clarin declared which made Kaleen looked up to the maid.

"That place is dangerous."

"And yet you are heading towards that direction."

"I'm a fighter and certainly know how to deal with them." Kaleen assured. "But having surrounded with the lots of them, I can't protect you."

Clarin must know the words of the princess and she looked down in dejection. For she is not a warrior and would be a huge burden to the princess if she ever comes with her.

Kaleen approached her maid and lifted up her face by her chin. "You are young and brave. I couldn't  ask for more when you chose to not flee at the first announcement of terror in our kingdom. But this time, I wouldn't be bringing you with me knowing the apparent danger I might put you in. I know of your loyalty. That is enough for me."

Clarin could almost cry at the princess' words but then someone burst inside the room. Another  maid who looked rather pale of terror.

Kaleen straightened up, seeing the ever composed governess in the palace appeared to be quite  shaken of something.

"The fangs are at the palace gate with throng of strong breed of warriors." Joleen declared.

Kaleen's eyes widened and her heart quickened at that. "W-what?"

"All the elite warriors are sent at the front gate in case the chaos would ensue. The people  are in frantic escape away from the vampires' path." Joleen hurriedly filled in as Kaleen walked towards the door and into the hallway.

"I-I didn't know they can openly come out in broad daylight!" Clarin exclaimed, marching in fast strides along with the princess who already had her long sword on her right hand.

"If I hear it right, their king is even with them." Joleen added.

Kaleen then doubt if her deal with Marcus still looked appetizing for him in compared to attacking  the weakened kingdom of Vel in full force. After all, that cunning king could easily overtake their whole army in one swift force of unceasing attack.

Couldn't take it anymore, Kaleen chose to sprint away from there despite her long dress flying with  the whooshing of the wind as she did so.

By the gate, there already a tension growing more in intensity as every passing of the moment.  The knights and warriors gathered where the vampires stayed very still outside the gate.

Being confronted with fangs was not new to them. However, seeing how large the populace of those  vile beasts, it shouldn't be a matter of a day before the kingdom of Vel will be conquered.

All eyes were at the young king, Marcus, who sat high up his horse and not saying anything at all  and just waited there like a perfectly carved statue. The soft breeze blew gently on the flags that the horsemen of the vampire king. It bore the insignia of strong kingdom of his and the threat it weighed.

Not long while, the king of Vel arrived at the gate with full armor on and sword on his hold. Though  beaten with age, he showed no weakness over the king on the other side.

"What brings you here?" Came a hissing question of king Herod as soon as he got near the gate.  There were knights who shielded his front with weapons pointed at the vampires.

Marcus' eyes flickered to Herod, not masking his boredom while he was being addressed by the  Vel's king. "I would assume that you are uninformed of why I'm here."

Herod gritted his teeth, being looked down upon by a young king stronger than him in terms of  many things didn't really sit well with him. Once he was young and vigorous but time had already taken hold of him. But apparently, not Marcus who was unchanging even years had passed.

"You will not get what you came here for." Herod said so in a promise.

Marcus considered Herod's words and was about to answer him but seemed to have changed  his mind as he had his full attention to another direction.

When the princess arrived at the gate, looking dolled up and yet wielding a sword in her hand,  Marcus lips lifted to one side.

"Ah, just in time, princess. I brought you a gift." Marcus spoken. "I'm certain you would like them  as a wedding offering."
