"Eloise, why are you crying?" Ainsley sat up and reached out to hug her.

Eloise subconsciously pushed him away. Realizing her reaction, she quickly explained, "I had a nightmare."

Ainsley sighed in relief and said, "Don’t be afraid. I’m here."

He pulled the blanket over her and held her close. She fell asleep again in his arms.

Maybe it was exhaustion, or pain. But for the first time in days, she slept beside Ainsley.

Ainsley’s deep gaze flicked to the fruit knife in the corner. He stared at it for a long time, then looked down.

He turned off the light, lay back down, and held Eloise even tighter.

Three things demanded his attention:

The first was uncovering the truth about Aura’s death.

The second, securing a child to keep Eloise by his side.

The third, the villa was locked down under strict security. Yet somehow, someone had given Eloise those birth control pills. And why? What was their motive?

Alex hesitated, then nodded. “Aura told me once. She said she only wanted to threaten Eloise and take some photos to scare her away from Ainsley. She swore she would never let the bandits touch her. She just… wanted Eloise to leave. I thought she was joking. Aura was always so shy.”Elijah closed his eyes, his hands curling into fists. With a sharp exhale, he tossed the document in front of Alex. “Remember this, I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for Aura’s reputation and how she will be remembered in Alpha Ainsley’s heart. I won’t mention what I saw tonight.”Then he turned on his heel and walked away. But his face was pale. The storm in his heart was unbearable. As he descended the stairs, voices drifted toward him. She smiled. “No. If you’re left alone in the Golden Moon Pack, I won’t be able to explain it to Alpha Ainsley.”Eloise’s heart tightened. “Rachael…”“I’ll go with you.” Rachael calmly closed the car door and walked toward Eloise. She reached out, gripping Eloise’s shoulder, and whispered, “Don’t worry. I’ve been Alpha Ainsley’s subordinate for a long time. I can handle it. Besides, I’m a member of the Litha Night Walker Pack. While Ainsley confronted Gary, Eloise was jolted awake by a sudden, biting splash of cold water. The shock sent shivers down her spine, her body convulsing against the freezing sensation.A dim, flickering lamp swung overhead, its weak light casting distorted shadows on the cracked concrete walls. The air smelled of damp wood, rust, and rotten.Eloise's vision blurred as she blinked away, the water stinging her eyes. She instinctively tried to lift her hand to shield herself from the harsh light, but the sharp pull of ropes biting into her wrists stopped her. Time passed slowly.Eloise glanced at her wristwatch again, her brows knitting in frustration. The ticking felt like it echoed louder in the room than it had any right to, like each second was dragging its feet, deliberately mocking her patience. She shifted slightly in her seat, the silence becoming more stifling by the minute. Ainsley sat across from her, completely still, his small eyes trained on her face with an eerie calmness. The shrill ring of her phone startled her.Her body tensed instinctively. She snatched the phone from the table, her thumb sliding across the screen to answer.“Are you here yet?” she asked sharply. From the other end, Eric’s voice came hurried, uneven, and heavy with movement. He was clearly in motion. “I can’t come,” he said, no greeting, just urgency. “I’ll leave Ainsley with you for now.”Eloise shot upright. “Wait a minute,” she snapped. “Leave him with me for now? Slow, heavy steps carried her to Ainsley’s bedside. She reached out with a trembling hand but stopped an inch from touching him.Instead, she sank into the chair beside him, folding her hands tightly in her lap to hide how badly they shook.
