The next morning was far from normal. The only way it could have been described was cold.

Neither of my parents were speaking to me, not even as I prepared breakfast earlier in the morning as an appeasement. They avoided my gaze as much as they could, never speaking a word.

It hurt, the silent waves of disappointment that ebbed out of them. I braced through it however.

Even little Treasure had noticed it.

“Where's daddy?” He whispered to me. I noticed that my parents had stopped eating, either hearing or rightly assuming Treasure words.

I attempted to smile at him. “He's not here, but we can visit him if you'd like,” I spoke invitingly.

Before Treasure could say a word, I heard my mother's voice for the first time that morning.

“Treasure dear, why don't you follow us to the pack gardens? There are plenty of beautiful animals there.”
