“Don’t you think we should confront her to know what she heard?” Lucien asked after a few minutes of silence, running his hand through his wavy blond hair.
“Do we need to?” Lucas was feeling irritated already. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re becoming attached to our dear Ms. Orfilia, Lucien.”“Lucien is right, Lucas.” We need to make sure she doesn’t feel hurt or feel unwanted enough to run away.” Liam pointed out.Lucas groaned. “Why would she? She’s going to get paid for her troubles, I don’t think she’s going to give that up.”“If we don’t make her feel comfortable, she’s going to leave. We need her, not the other way round.” Lucien added, slightly irritated at his brother.Liam straightened his suit as he sat down on the couch. “While we don’t know anything about her yet, if we want to gain her trust, we need to give her something in return. We can start by telling her what the doctor said about our condition and—“Lucas growled in a low menacing tone, cutting Liam short before grabbing the bottle of whiskey off the table and glaring at his brothers.“You’re placing too much importance on a human and it’s starting to get on my nerves.” He brought up the bottle to his mouth and poured its contents down his throat, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “Before you tell her any more than we have already, we need to trust her first.”Liam sounded exasperated at this point.“You should have pushed her out of the car.”“She said she hated us. Did you miss out on that part, brother?” Lucas pointed out.“She didn’t mean that and before you argue any further, you were present when she signed the contract and you signed the papers too with any objections.” Lucien glared at Lucas.Lucas laughed bitterly. “You’re sounding desperate at this point. I understand we need her to cure our condition before it gets out of control and we go on a raging rampage but we need to be cautious as well.”“We took Orfilia from her home, nurtured her back to full health, and informed her that she’s destined to be our mate and break us free from this curse, all three of us. She reluctantly accepted but you still don’t trust her?”Liam looked over to Lucien, urging him to put an end to this dispute for good.“You lack empathy, Lucas and I’m not in the mood to argue further. You don’t trust anyone and while that’s understandable, we can’t let you ruin our plans further. We are going to speak to her immediately and clear up any misconception she might be having right now.” Lucien said with a note of finality before standing up and making his way toward the door, his brothers following behind.Lucien curses immediately his phone rings as soon he crosses the hallway leading to Orfilia’s room. He had instructed his assistant not to call unless it was of the utmost importance. Irritated, Lucien slid his phone out of his pocket and stared at the screen, it was his from one of his subordinates, he had been hoping to hear from them for quite a while now. He tapped a button and held the phone to his ear.“Hello, this isn’t a good time. Can you schedule an appointment with my assistant?”“I can’t, Lucien.” The voice on the other end was urgent and scared.Lucien could sense something was amiss.“We’re being attacked by the same pack yet again and we need reinforcements now. I tried to reach the other base but I couldn’t, it’s a miracle I was able to get through to you.”“Hang in tight, keep your defense up no matter what. They must not gain control of the fortress. Guard it as if your lives depend on it, we’re on our way.”Lucien ended the call and turned around facing his brothers, who both wore confusing looks on their faces.“What’s wrong? Is someone being attacked?” Liam asked simultaneously.“One of our places is under attack again, the Dundalk pack is behind it this time. They’re massively outnumbered and they need our help.”Lucien stated, grim-faced.“Talking to Orfilia would have to wait,” Lucien added before focusing his attention on Lucas.“Get every wolf you can, I need everyone strapped and ready to leave in 90 seconds.”Lucas nodded and excused himself.“What do you need me to do?” Liam asked, eager to help.Lucien looked lost in thought for a moment.“We need to get the communication back up and running as soon as possible, if they could only get through to me then there’s been a jam somewhere.”Liam nodded.“I guess you should speak to Mr. Gerald, the butler concerning Orfilia. She still needs to go back to her place and sort things out, I believe he can arrange a chauffeur for her as soon as we leave.”Lucien nodded in agreement before leaving Liam as they both separated. He could hear the commotion building outside, the army was starting to assemble.“Master Lucien.”He turned around immediately to see a short, balding man bowing before him. Mr. Gerald was the only human staff under the Fuller Pack employ and he has been around for as long as Lucien could remember, he was getting less efficient as the years rolled by but he was ever-present in fulfilling his duties.“I was on my way to your quarters, Mr. Gerald. I need you to do something for me. You’ve been acquainted with our mate, Orfilia, yes?”Mr. Gerald nodded briskly.“I have a couple of things I want you to pass down to her as soon as we leave the house, understood?”“Yes, Master.”***Orfilia groaned for the umpteenth time as she plopped down on her king-sized bed. She couldn’t get the events of what happened earlier out of her head. The werewolf triplet was discussing her like she was some sort of item to be bargained over. She was only a means to an end and she would be discarded right after she had served her purpose. It stung to hear she wasn’t valued as a person but she quickly summarized it was the same way with every supernatural being, humans were insignificant to them on the grand scale of things.Lucien and Liam were the nicest while Lucas was a different ball game altogether. If she didn’t know any better, he hated being mated to her.She still didn’t know the truth as to why the triplets wanted her, it had to do with a condition that they hadn’t explained to her yet but she wasn’t worried about it either. Being mated to three wolves to who she was strangely attracted and having more money than she could have ever imagined after six months sounded like a bargain to her.She heard a sharp knock on the door and she quickly scaled across the room to open it expecting to see one of the triplets on the other side of the door.“Good morning, miss.” Mr. Gerald bowed as soon as the door flung open.Orfilia tried to hide her disappointment at having gotten excited over nothing.“Can I help you, sir?”“You can call me Mr. Gerald.” He smiled at her. “Master Lucien and his brothers left the house and he said to pass a couple of information to you ahead of their return.”Orfilia didn’t know how to react to the news. Did it have something to do with the commotion she had heard half an hour ago?“Did something happen, Mr. Gerald? I spoke to Lucien earlier this morning and he didn’t mention anything to me.”“Not at all, miss. It was a recent development and it had to be dealt with quickly. Master Lucien ordered me to inform you that your wedding would be in two days and while preparations are ongoing, you should take the time to make yourself familiar with your new home.”Orfilia merely hummed in agreement. She didn’t understand the rush but she was pleased about it, the earlier they got this over with, the better for all parties involved.“Did he say anything else? I told him I needed a personal driver to take me home.” She asked.“Yes. He said you needed a chauffeur to take you to your old place so you could clear out and properly move in here.”“Is the car ready?”“Yes, miss. I’ll be waiting right outside the front door.”Thank you, Mr. Gerald. I’ll meet you downstairs in a couple of minutes.”He bowed and Orfilia shut the door before heading straight into the bathroom. Living as the mate to the Fuller triplet certainly did come with several privileges and she intended to enjoy every one of them to the fullest.Half an hour later, she was on her way downstairs heading towards the car prepared for her.The moon hung high in the night sky, there was a full moon tonight and it cast an ethereal glow over the high-rise building next to the mildly dense forest surrounded by several mountains. Three werewolves emerged from below, making their way to the top of the mountain, their eyes blazing with fury and a fierce desire for revenge. Lucien, Liam, and Lucas were the leaders of the Fuller Pack with Lucien as the outright Alpha, their territory encompassing nearly half of the state’s land mass. The distress call from one of their subsidiaries had come in a little too late, by the time reinforcements had gotten there, there was nothing left. Every building had either been torn down or burnt. Dead bodies of different wolves littered every corner, the few who managed to survive wouldn’t survive the night. Lucien was beside himself with anger, he couldn’t believe the Dundalk Pack had declared war on the Fuller Pack and their allies. He had always ignored their advances, they were a small pa
“Fasten your seatbelt, miss.”Orfilia took a quick glance Mr. Gerald before doing as ordered. He sounded different from the jovial butler she had come to know him as. If the Fuller brothers had placed her in his care, it could only mean he was capable of protecting her. The black car, a sleek and powerful machine accelerated towards them, darting past the unsuspecting drivers, leaving a number of them startled as the car drove past them. “Hold on, miss.” Mr. Gerald said, gripping the steering with his white knuckles, as his face squeezed with determination focused on the road ahead. He stepped down hard on the accelerator, the engine roaring to life as he weaved through the cars ahead, eager to outrun the predator chasing them. The chase entered a whole new dimension as they raced into the city, both drivers shifting gears and taking their cars to the limit. Tires screeched on asphalt, as Mr. Gerald skillfully maneuvered his way through the populated streets, dodging cars and uns
The next morning, Orfilia comes down for breakfast but the brothers were absent as they had been the previous night. Mr. Gerald informs her of the brother’s apology for missing the build-up to the wedding but she doesn’t care. It was going to be a formal event right from the start, there were no feelings involved and she didn’t seem to care about their movements a tad bit. She had more pressing matters to focus on like what to do concerning the flash drive she had safely secured underneath her bed. She had decided she was going to make her first move sometime after the wedding, she needed all the security and influence she could garner, and being the mate to the Fuller brothers guaranteed that. She finished with her meal and retreated to her room for the entirety of the day, only appearing for dinner and she spent most parts of the night in the dressing room, sharing a bottle of wine and rolling in fits of laughter with the seamstresses and a couple of the servants from yesterday bef
Orfilia could feel her face and her feet hurting terribly, she had lost count of the number of guests the Fuller brothers had introduced her and she couldn’t see herself doing this for the next five minutes, there was every possibility that she might pass out. Unable to take it anymore, she mumbled an excuse about her hurting feet and excused herself from the midst of the newest dignitaries she was forced to hug and smile at and took a stroll towards the balcony, eager to get away from the crowd and noise inside the hall. As she moved further away from the hall and towards the balcony, she heard a loud noise which made her jump out of fright. She was left with either confronting whatever source the noise came from or going back into the hall to get acquainted with more people. She tentatively moved closer and she managed to see a man with broad shoulders which filled his suit perfectly, slapping a younger man, who wasn’t quite as beefed up as he was. She knew she was intruding on th
Orfilia and the Fuller brothers walked back into the house which was practically empty at this point. The guests had all taken their leave and only the servants remained, cleaning up the mess they had made. They made their way to the study and as soon as everyone made their way inside, Lucien shut the door immediately questioned Orfilia as to why she had been conversing with Alaric alone.“I don’t see how that’s anyone’s business. I am a grown woman capable of making choices for myself.”“You’re not just any woman, you’re a Fuller now, our mate. You need to be selective about the kind of people you’re seen in company with. Besides, of all people, both humans and supernaturals alike, why did it have to be Alaric?” Lucas pointed out, already feeling incensed. “And what is so bad about talking to Alaric? He seemed nice enough to me. At least, nicer than you have ever been towards me!” Orfilia retorted, her eyes blazing as she glared at Lucas who wore a scowl on his face. “Have you rea
The next few days were filled with a sense of excitement and tranquility as they enjoyed their honeymoon in the best ways possible. Their mornings consisted of them spending the morning lazing on the restricted wing of the mansion, while they were served breakfast by their entourage of servants on their private balcony overlooking the lake below them. After breakfast, they would fly over to Paris on their private jet, exploring the city’s alluring streets, picking out exquisite cafes, splendid boutiques, and colorful local markets where you could get anything you wanted. They would also delight themselves by indulging in the native cuisine of fresh seafood, pastries, and the finest wines in Paris. In the afternoons, they would go on a romantic sailing excursion on one of their boats. Gliding through the crystalline waters, screaming out in the middle of the ocean as the gentle sea breeze brought a sense of satisfaction upon them. They would then anchor at a beach house and split the
“Was that necessary, Lucas?” Lucien asked. “You went a little too far, don’t you think?”“How else is she going to learn to stay away? She doesn’t listen to anyone but herself and it’s going to get her into trouble around here.” Lucas turned to face his brother.“Isn’t there a more convenient way to get her to listen?” Lucien stroked his jaw, looking towards Liam who merely shrugged his shoulders.“I could try telling her why Alaric is bad news for both her and our family.” “I had hoped it would not come to this, involving her in our family matters when we only have a contract for the next six months at best. But at this point, we’re running out of options to stop her before she does something drastic.” Liam added, retrieving a bottle of whiskey from one of the drawers on the mahogany table. “So what do you suggest we do, Lucien?” Lucas began. “I don't know how well I could restrain myself if I see Alacric close to Orfilia next time.”“You need to control your temper.” Liam chided.
“Please no, I have a little girl. She doesn’t deserve this.” Jade pleaded.“Mummy, what’s going on?” Orfilia descended the stairs, clutching her teddy tightly. The commotion she was hearing downstairs was preventing her from falling asleep. “Go back upstairs, baby. Let your dad and I handle this. I’ll be up in a bit, I promise.”“Are you sure?” She didn’t believe her mom one bit, she seemed scared of someone standing in the shadows. Orfilia couldn’t see who it was, she tried to walk down the stairs some more but her father’s stern voice stopped her. He had never yelled at her before but he did now. Something was wrong but she decided to go back upstairs. She slammed her bedroom door stuff and lifted her window to slither outside. She caught on a branch on the tree next to her room before climbing down. She ran as fast as she could around the house, the shouting was becoming more intense this time around, and she was scared for her parent’s safety. She crouched down below the window
