Beta Maverick pushed the door a few more times, and when he got no response, he left, and I soon began to hear my name in the not-too-far distance. I sat on the low stool in the kitchen while heaving heavily to calm my uneven breathing. The smoke from the steamy cup seemed to be inviting me for a continuation, and so did the slice of bread which was all that was left. I took a big bite of the slice, and emptied the cup in one large gulp. It was not as hot as it was before, but it was still hot enough for me to feel a slight sting on my tongue. I blew air into the already made fire, and placed the big pot which contained herbs on it. It was for Beta Maverick, and I knew exactly what the herbs were for, even though I was not supposed to. I stepped out of the kitchen afterwards, to respond to Beta Maverick's call, after rinsing my mouth out with fresh water. Unless I was ready to suffer a miserable death, he must not think for a second that I defied the pack's laws and ate. I found him in front of his bedroom, looking relaxed. Too relaxed in fact for someone who had forcefully pushed the kitchen door to get it open only a few seconds ago. "I heard you calling," I said, muttering every show of innocence I could. I had gotten to him, and hoped nothing would give out the fact that I had just defied the pack's law against having breakfast. He looked at me closely, his face grim, and his teeth clenched. Now this was the expression I was expecting to see in his face, even though it made me shiver in fear. "Are you done with the chores?" He asked. His voice and attention seemed distant, like he was thinking about something else. "I'm yet to make lunch, and I'm yet to clean out the rooms." I replied, relieved that he noticed nothing. He waved, and I took his dismissal clue and went back to the kitchen, wondering why he had actually called me. It definitely wasn't to ask about chores. Since when did he care? I fetched herb water from the big pot which was now steaming on the fire, and took it to Beta Maverick. Just when I stretched the cup to him, I realized my mistake. "Stupid girl," he barked. "What the fuck were you thinking, bringing this to me before noon? Do you want the Alpha's curse to fall upon me?" He asked, and I faced down. It was really stupid of me to forget. Really, what was I thinking? Noon was over three hours away, how could I not remember that? I turned back to return to the kitchen with the steamy cup still in my hand but his voice stopped me. "And where are you going with that? He thundered, and I sighed. Really, what is wrong with me today? Or did I eat too much for breakfast? I poured the herb water away, and continued my walk back to the kitchen. I could feel the beta's eyes boring into my back but I did not turn to look at him, I was only relieved that my mistake didn't earn me a whip. Back in the kitchen, I brought down the pot, and since I had over three hours before noon, cleaning out the rooms now didn't sound like a bad idea. I started with the rooms no one occupied, three in all. Every last one of the rooms looked like two vicious beasts had locked horns in them, and smelled even worse. But it wasn't a surprise. I have seen worse, I mean worst. The smell of a wolf in the room meant that the Beta had shifted last night again without the presence of a full moon. It had rained heavily last night, and the sky had been so dark and wet that there had been no moon, not even a tiny thread appeared in the sky, and yet Beta Maverick had shifted. It was the reason I had to place that big pot full of herbs on the fire, and serve him the steamy herb water twice each day. I swept out the debris which consisted of torn pieces of clothes, furs, and several drops of blood. The items in the room was also scattered about, the bed was upturned, and so were the chairs. Beta Maverick definitely knew just what would happen to him if Alpha Demian found out about his abnormal shifting and going rogue, and even though he wouldn't bring himself to ask me, I knew I had to guard his secret with my life. I gathered the debris into a big bag, and headed for the next room. The condition of the room was similar to the first which was no surprise at all- furnitures were upturned with pieces of clothes and furs scattered about. There were drops of blood as well but not as much as the first room. I cleaned out the room, and arranged the furnitures after which I headed for the next room. This third room was the worst of all, covered in wolf's fur and blood. He must have become really violent and got himself wounded, I thought as I swept out the debris. It took me thrice the time I used for the other rooms to get this one clean. I was tired, and my whole body ached but I had to finish cleaning out the rooms. I gathered up the debris from the rooms and put them in a bag after which I kept the bag under Beta Maverick's rocking chair to properly dispose it later. I could not burn it, the smell of fur will rise with the smoke, and the other members of the pack would easily detect it just by sniffing. I could not bury it either, it would be easily detected during one of the pack's hunt. I went back to Beta Maverick, ready to clean his personal room, although I doubted that it needed to be cleaned. Whatever was wrong with him, and making him shift abnormally could not have affected his brain. He wouldn't dare shift in his own room. QAs the pack's Beta, and next in command to Alpha Demian, he was accustomed to receiving guests at any time of the day, and he wouldn't want any member of the pack telling the others or worse, Alpha Demian that he had taken to shifting abnormally. Just as I predicted, the Beta's bedroom was clean, not a piece of paper needed to be lifted as everything was perfectly in order. A quick look at the clock showed that I still had an hour before it was noon. heading for my bedroom to tidy up. Now that I had time, My room could use some cleaning out, I said. But the Beta had a different instruction for me. "Hurry up, Alpha Demian has asked that we assemble in his palace at exactly noon." Beta Maverick instructed, and I stared at him, concealing my disbelief behind an expressionless face. Alpha Demian can't seriously call for an assembly at exactly noon when every other pack members had patiently waited for noon to have brunch, since breakfast was forbidden in the pack. But what is so important about this assembly?[Declan] Dylan and I remained in his bedroom for some time even after the servant left. For one we didn't give a fuck about our father's guests, and for another,we were consumed with guilt. Guilt that had allowed our father to convince us to stay back from searching for Avira. Of course we sent warriors to search for her in places we have searched, but not going with them was as good as not making a single effort. Dylan soon got up from the bed rather reluctantly, stretched out his muscles lazily, and then he turned to face me. Left for me alone, I will not go to our father. I was beginning to regret letting Dylan talk me into staying back. "The deed is done already. Let's go welcome his guests." Dylan called, and then he stretched his hand to pull me up but I ignored it, and got up by myself. There were three of them, his guests. An Alpha I didn't think I had seen before and his two daughters
[Avira] The whip landed heavily on my back, the sharp crack echoing through the narrow stretch of the vast empty land. Pain exploded across my skin, hot and blinding, racing through every nerve in my body. My breath hitched, my hands clawing into the dirt beneath me. But the pain was not what terrified me most. We were out of the cave now, and dawn was fast approaching with the air chilly.. But neither of my mates were here yet. I was slowly losing my grip on hope. "You will get more whips if you continue to stall," the man said with a laugh. He was enjoying this. I could hear it in the way he dragged his words, and then lifted up the whip, ready to strike me again. I said nothing. Instead, I clenched my muscles, and focused on my breathing, slow and deliberate, forcing myself not to scream. Screaming was what he wanted from me, screaming would only please him, and I would ha
[Dylan] "Which route did they take?" I heard Declan ask the men by the door, and I also heard them mumbling in response. How could anyone be so stupid, and let the one person they were commanded to protect go away with a different group? I heard the bang, the shattering, and then whimpering, and I knew what Declan was doing to them. I was in her bedroom, looking closely at everything, and searching for nothing in particular. Something around here should point me to a clue, or be one. But there was nothing. Exhaling and inhaling were as difficult as fuck now as I couldn't help but wonder where Avira was now, and what she was facing. About what she was facing, I am supposed to feel any pain she experiences, and so far I have gotten nothing! Is it that there was no pain? Is it that the bond had been severed? Because come to think of it, I
[Avira]I couldn't tell how long I was out for, or how much longer I would have stayed unconscious, but I forced my eyes open when I felt someone sending violent kicks to my side. The kick sent painful signals to my brain, making my muscles clench on their own, but my attacker, whoever it was, wouldn't stop kicking me. It was utterly dark, and I could not make out anything that would give me a clue as to where I was. I didn't need the events that took place to flash through my memory because I remembered them clearly. I remembered the faces of the warriors who had lured me out of the pack on the pretense that both Dylan and Declan were badly wounded. I remembered the warrior who had hit me violently, and Mira's screams.Mira! Is she okay? Did she get hit as well?"Please stop, you're hurting her. Please!" Mira's teary voice cut through the darkness, begging the bastard, whoever it was, to stop. But he didn't. I promised myself to not scream in pain or plead for mercy, so instead,
[Avira]I felt a sudden weakness from my waist downwards, and my heart skipped a beat. How I managed to keep standing was a miracle."Excuse me," I said to the men who had brought the news, and went back inside, my heart heavy with guilt. "Mates!" My wolf called, but in a whimper. Her voice had lost the usual excitement with which she usually calls them. Mira's wide eyes were fixed on me, and I could read concern all over it. I moved about it in the room, with no destination in mind. From the dresser, I moved to the laundry basket, and then to the bed. My whole body trembled as I paced about."Luna," Mira called after a few seconds. Her voice was gentle, and almost provided me with just enough comfort but it didn't. Both Dylan and Declan were badly injured, and have sent for me.What am I doing standing here, or even pacing about?"Take these off," I commanded Mira, waving at the cloak I was wearing which was adorned with gold, and the collections of gold around my neck. Mira's h
[Dylan]The tripartite ceremony was a huge success even though our father had failed to show up like I half expected. What made the event more colourful was the Lunar goddess' approval which usually comes in the form of a thunderbolt. The sound had delayed in coming, that for a slight second, I thought it wouldn't sound, or that the Lunar goddess had changed her mind about Avira being our mate. But it sounded after a few seconds, and it was louder than it was supposed to, which at the moment, could only mean that Avira is the one true Luna of TwinMoon pack.I made a mental note to confront my father about his absence, but I wasn't sure when would be convenient for both of us. After the wedding ceremony which was right now would be time to consummate our marriage. I had no idea how much time that would take.My eyes darted around the room which in a few hours would cease to be mine until they settled for the full-length mirror in the room
[Avira]"Actually, I didn't think you were innocent, I believed it." Dylan added after a few minutes, and honestly, I wasn't sure what to say to him. I should say thank you to him again, not just for saving my life but also for making me sit here, away from the scorching sun.The damn necklace woul
[Dylan]"No you don't." Avira said in a low voice, but I said nothing. "For all you know, this thing around my neck is the only thing protecting you from me right now," she added. There was a shift in her voice. She sounded angry now, but I could easily tell that the anger was not directed at me.
[Avira]The journey to the border was long and quiet. Too long and too quiet, but thankfully my legs weren't hurting so much anymore. It turned out that the foul smelling healing remedy was effective.I was moving farther away from the place I believed to be home for two years, and heading for a ne

Even though I had spent the last few minutes waiting for it, its arrival had caught me by surprise, and caused me to flinch.I was squatting behind the shrub from last nigh
