Kieran’s pov

“I’m asking you to listen to the message when it comes.”

“But what if I wait and nothing happens?” I asked. “What if he needs me now?”

“He does,” she said softly. “And that’s why you must go.”

I could feel my emotions rising as I sighed. “You still don’t get it do you? My son is out there. He’s just a babe. He needs me. I already failed to protect him once—”

“You did not fail,” she cut in.

“I did! I left him with someone I trusted, and now he’s gone!”

She stood up again. “And now you’re trying to fix it. That means you haven’t failed. That means you’re still fighting.”

I looked away. I hated how her words made sense. I hated that she was right.

“You must go home,” she said again. “And wait.”

I turned toward the door.

“Kieran.”

I stopped.

“You are a strong man. But sometimes, strength is not in the sword. Sometimes it is in the patience to wait.”

I looked around with an angry look as I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t fully understand what she was saying.
