Chapter 17

Sierra’s pov

I nodded to him. I guess I could work with that. He was brutal but he was also telling the truth.

All I needed to do was make sure I would not piss him off.

He held my phone and dropped it in his pocket as he nodded to me.

“All we need to do is go out there and make sure we do what we are supposed to do. Train.”

I nodded.

We walked there and we passed a clearing.

I looked around to see multiple broken trees and so many blood, possibly from the deer he had smashed here.

He then took a stance and readied himself for the fight.

“Are you ready?” He asked as I shook my head, but that didn’t stop him.

Before I could even counter him, he zipped into me with a speed of a falling star and smashed into me as I flew into a tree and hit my back against it.

I felt something crack within me as I groaned on the floor.

“I thought you said you were ready,” He said in an angry tone.

“I’ve not fought anyone before, okay?” I sighed. “I’m still really trying to get my bearings ar

Damien’s povI looked up at the skies to see the moon going high and high in the skies as I walked about with my hands in my pockets.I loved how quiet and peaceful it felt in the garden at this time; there were barely any moments during which I could think without being interrupted. But tonight felt different.I saw something from within my peripheral vision: a swift movement, a darting across the very edge of sight that belonged to nothing else but a shadow. Suspicion arose as I noticed how fast they were moving- legs pumping ceaselessly underneath themself in a desperate attempt to escape something. I stood there for a while, hesitating whether or not to give chase after them, before thinking better of it. Someone skulking about at this hour? Fat chance. This person might be a spy or an assassin and I would be a fool to let them go.Using my super speed, I managed to zip into the way of the intruder as I blocked the way before they could understand what was going on.Within seconds

Sirella’s povI didn’t look back as I ran through the forest while trying to stay alive. I didn’t know of anyone of those men were after me after fighting Kieran but I didn’t want to stay to find out.Soon, I heard laughter as I halted in my steps and hid behind a few bushes.“…he really thinks it’ll work?” one of them asked, his voice harsh and incredulous. The other laughed quietly. “Oh, it will work. Donovan wants Salvatore dead, and when Donovan wants something,” the speaker shook his head in envy at the alphas powers, “he gets it. The snipers are in position. One bolt to the heart—an instant death.”So these were the assassins? No matter. I would make sure they regretted their actions by reporting them to…I didn’t finish thinking when a rough hand grabbed my neck as I was pulled to my feet.I felt tears spring into my eyes instantly from the pain. “Huh,” a chuckle reached my ears. “And what if I might say do we have here? Little Sirella, what are you doing down here?”“Nothing,

Kieran’s povI chuckled while nodding. “You don’t think I’m lying about this do you?”He shook his head. “I just want to know because this is… unorthodox. It’s not supposed to be a thing. Is it?”He was even more confused than I was. “Well… to be honest, it’s what Donovan’s messenger said. He came into the camp, right into Salvatore’s tent, and delivered the message. They want to meet at dawn, in the middle of the battlefield. No weapons. No armies. Donovan just wants the two of them to meet up and talk about… peace.”I had stretched that last bit well so he would know how ridiculous the word was for our course. He sighed and rubbed his chin while he looked around with the cogs in his head turning.“I don’t understand these alphas,” he scoffed. “Why now? Why would Donovan agree to that? I thought he wanted revenge for Salvatore attacking him earlier. He’s been the one pushing for the war. Why is he having a change of heart now?”“I was thinking the same thing,” I said. “To be honest,

Kieran’s povThe messenger stepped forward, eyes never leaving Salvatore. “When the sun comes up above the battlefield.” His sneer widened. “Without your weapons.”Now Salvatore squinted. “What does he mean by—?”The messenger nodded. “That is what Alpha Donovan requests,” he said. “A fair meeting. A talk to end this conflict.” Salvatore rubbed his chin, his eyes flashing with interest. “End the conflict?” he repeated before turning to me. “So… what do you think of this madness Kieran? You think Donovan’s throwing in the towel? You think he wants to quit?”“I don’t know, but it sounds like it. He must know he’s fucked if he doesn’t end this senseless violence.”Salvatore nodded, his mouth twisting in a smile. “Yes . . .” he said slowly. “Yes, maybe you’re right; maybe he is fucked, but this war is not senseless my dear. Oh no. It’s far from that.”The messenger said nothing. He just stood there, still and waiting. Salvatore turned back to him, still grinning. “Tell Donovan I accept h

Kieran’s povSalvatore growled at them while pointing to them. “I’m done listening to anything you have to say. Kieran is here now and he is a part of this team. Anyone who has a problem with it should come to me.”The room stayed silent, nobody daring to say anything. Salvatore turned around and grinned when he saw me. Then he patted me on the shoulder. “Good job out there,” he said loud enough for everyone to hear him. “You did well.”“Thank you, Alpha.” I said as he nodded.“Now let’s go back to our plans. We need to win this war by any means necessary.”The generals all nodded their heads as they turned their eyes back towards the maps, their voices rising in volume once more as they readdressed the strategies they were about to deploy.I stood by Salvatore’s side as my eyes darted around the room before me. The eyes of some of them were narrowing on me still; I could feel many eyes watching me, but I brushed it off from my mind.I wasn’t here for any damn friendships. While they

Kieran’s povI nodded again, telling myself to keep my goddamn face neutral. “You just say when.”He clapped me on the back once more and then stepped away, moving back toward the camp. I turned around then and watched him go as he disappeared into the dark shadow of the trees. He walked with square shoulders and a quick confidence. When he was gone I looked back at the fire for a while. The smell of cooking meat was chokingly thick, the heat driving me to stand up and back a step, but it fueled my thoughts and plans and strategies. Salvatore was glad, and that was fine. It kept everyone’s eyes off me, kept him using me instead. But I hadn’t forgotten why I’d come at all. Not for him. Not for his war.For me.I found a rock to sit on close by. I didn’t look away as the flames grew. There was still too much there for me to go home just yet. The flames licked higher. The fire cracked, the roar deafening.I heard more footfalls in the clearing, softer this time than the first. I stood u

Kieran’s povI zipped into the closest attacker with ease as my claws struck him down like nothing. Watching him scream was like music to my ears as blood poured out of him.I didn’t hesitate; I attacked the next one, ducking under his sword and sinking my teeth into his arm. Bone cracked and snapped beneath the pressure. He, too, screamed and dropped the weapon. The others stared, their faces draining of color. The scent of their terror coated my tongue thickly in the still air. I growled softly, advancing on them steadily as I watched the man with the bow.He took a step back, his hands trembling as he drew the arrow. I studied him, my breath tight in my throat, hoping, daring him to let it fly. His gaze wavered and slipped toward his brothers-in-arms strewn across the ground.“Shoot,” I snarled. “I won’t try to stop you.”His hands shook harder, and he swallowed thickly. And in the end, he let go of the bow, his horror-stricken eyes staring up at me. "I… N-no," he choked out betwee

Kieran’s povI drew my sword. It scraped against its cover as I swung it around.“I’m always holding back from using my sword to kill anyone. But if any of you have the guts to face off against me and take sirella with them… step forward. I won’t bite,” I smiled while letting my fangs show. The men glanced at one another then laughed. “You’ve gone soft, Kieran,” said the first. “We always knew you were weak.”“One more time,” I said. “Go away, get lost even, and I’ll pretend I never saw you.”They didn’t move. Instead, they raised their swords higher, ready to fight.“Sirella,” I whispered, not turning around. “Run.”“But—”“Now!” I shouted. She waited for a moment before turning around and running away as I held my ground. The men lunged forward. I blocked the first sword with my own, the sound of clanging steel piercing the stillness of the forest. Spinning fast on my heel I lashed out, my blade clipping the second man’s arm. He howled, dropping his weapon.“Get him!” the scarred ma

Kieran’s povShe sat on the corner bed while looking around. She had her head in a mess with dirt on her face but she looked at me with a fierce gaze. She looked afraid and she looked like she could break something.I went and sat beside her.“You should not have come, you know,” I sighed. “You didn't have to show up? You could have texted me or something.”“I did but you weren’t picking up,” she said. “You weren’t answering. And everything’s different now. Donovan didn’t go to the war. He stayed.”“Oh dear,” I sighed.“He said he knew Salvatore had snipers waiting for him. He sent someone else to fight in his name. He plans to wait until both sides are weak… then he’ll strike and take over everything.”“That’s impossible,” I said. “He’d never risk everything like that.”She nodded.“I tried to call you. I was going to warn you. I just… I didn't know what to do or who to trust and I really needed someone to talk to.”I sighed while watching her as I understood her dilemma. I could see
