Mike’s deep voice rolled out next, calm and low. “We brought dinner. Figured we’d settle in the guest rooms and make sure the house doesn’t burn down while he’s away.”

Jax didn’t speak right away. He just looked at me, those dark eyes slow and heavy, like he could already smell how wet I was getting just from them standing there. His sleeves were rolled up, thick forearms on display, and I had to force myself not to stare.

I swallowed hard, trying to sound casual. “You guys really don’t have to stay. I’m twenty-one. I can handle two weeks by myself.”

Kane laughed and stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, the other two following right behind him. He set the six-pack of beer on the kitchen counter and turned, his gaze sliding down my bare legs. “Nah, sweetheart. We promised your old man. Besides… we wouldn’t want anything bad happening to you while we’re supposed to be protecting you.”

Jax finally spoke, his voice quiet and rough. “We can leave if you want us to, Riley.”

But the way he said my name made it clear he didn’t mean it. None of them did.

I took a long sip of beer, the cold liquid doing nothing to cool the heat building low in my belly. “No… it’s fine. Stay.”

Kane’s grin widened. “Good girl.”

Mike asked about school. Jax asked if I needed anything fixed around the house. Kane kept cracking jokes that got dirtier the more beer we drank.
