CHAPTER 15: DON'T SAY HER NAME

Lizzie slightly opened her eyes as it adjusted to the brightness of the room. She removed her blanket and tried to feel the wound she had last night. It still stings, but it was not as painful as it was before.

Mrs. France fell asleep beside her bed, holding her hand, but she woke up as soon as she felt Lizzie move.

"How are you, sweetie?" Mrs. France asked. She inspected Lizzie's bandage to be sure that it was still attached properly.

"I'm okay, just...what is this bitter thing in my mouth?" she grimaced.

"That's the medicine I gave you," Mrs. France said. She stood up and poured a glass of orange into a small cup. "Here, drink this. It can take away the bitterness," she said.

Lizzie sipped slowly from the cup when she realized her mother was staring at her. She immediately gulped the drink and asked for one more, which Mrs. France gave right away, but her disappointed look did
