LOGINOLIVE BECKETT
“Come onnnnn, you've been groveling on that chair for hours. You might as well rot alongside it.” “I don't want to get up.” Jess walked out with a spatula in one hand and a plate of freshly cooked eggs in the other. “And so what if Elliot doesn't want you anymore? Fuck him! I'm pretty sure his marriage to that slimy, betraying whore won't last.” “What if it was something I did? What if he was just testing me to see if I would stick by him?” She rolled her eyes, walked up to me, and snatched my phone from my hands. “You've been staring at your mobile for hours, love. Look at me, Elliot cheated on you. He betrayed you with your best friend of fifteen years, girl! He does not deserve you.” I stroked my hair violently with my hands. It didn't help that I'd had a one-night stand with a complete stranger just a few hours after being dumped! “And don't go sulking because you had a night with a dude last night. You did the right thing, and trust me, I'm proud of you for that.” “It's not a joke, Jess. Besides, I still need to get my things out of the apartment. Oh God. Then I'll have to meet the both of them… together.” “We can go together. I'm your friend, I won't let you confront those demons by yourself. Get out of it, Olive! You are a beautiful woman, thin or not. And if Elliot failed to understand that, then that's his loss.” She set the spatula and the plate on the center table and pulled me up. “You know what you need? A distraction. We should totally go to the class reunion happening tonight.” “No!” I pushed her back and fell onto the couch. “I can't go to the reunion. Everyone would know Elliot and I aren't together anymore. I bragged about us ending up together right after college.” “No one would know. He just broke up with you last night.” “It's still the same, Jess.” “No, it isn't. I'll be beside you all night, and trust me, no one else knows. Plus, I don't think Elliot will be there.” “What if—” “No what ifs,” she cut in. “No buts. It'll get your mind off things. I also heard there'll be some celebrities there, so it'll be a fun party. You need this, girl. What kind of friend would I be if I just let you rot on this couch?” I took a deep sigh. Maybe this would serve as a huge distraction. I wiped my tear-stained cheeks, put on my big-girl pants, and got dressed. Three hours later, Jess and I walked into the party hall with our heads held high. I was about to get some drinks when I spotted him. Elliot fucking Sterling was here and guess what? With Jane holding his hand. I crouched down and scurried behind the long tables. I just had to stay low-key so he wouldn't notice me. I tried to get Jess's attention, but she was talking to an old classmate who was whispering something about Easton Carter, the hockey star attending the party. I took a sip of my drink, took deep breaths, and stood up. I immediately bumped into Lynn, Winnie, and Freya—their drinks pouring onto my white mini cotton dress. “Oh my God! I am so sorry,” Lynn shouted, being overly dramatic as usual. “It's okay, it's okay,” I whispered, trying to get away, but it was no use. “We're so sorry, Olive. We didn't see you there. And… cute dress, by the way. You've added some weight over the years,” Freya jumped in. “Yeah… that's true. You weren't this fat, Olive. What happened? Life caught up with you? Besides, aren't you supposed to be here with Elliot?” Winnie added, looking around until she spotted him. Freya nudged Winnie and whispered in her ear. “Ooooooh, I'm so sorry. I heard about the engagement.” She heard? When? “It sucks that you and Elliot won't be an actual married couple after all. I mean, that was all you bragged about in college.” I clenched my knuckles as tightly as I could and dropped my face. If I looked at them, I would cry. I couldn't do that in front of everyone. Not here. “It is so sad. You bragging about having a happy marriage with a man you dated for eight years, and suddenly he turns around and proposes to your best friend—” “Of fifteen years, might I add.” “I guess this just happens when you give eight years of your life to a man and turn into an elephant overnight.” I could hear footsteps as everyone approached us. My eyes stung, and I bet they were already red from the tears I'd been holding back. “Hey, guys…did you hear?” They whispered in front of me, and I stood immobile. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't say anything. And what could I have said? They were all right. I was the one who had wasted years on a man. “It's so sad, isn't it? He dumped you, and you're here looking hopeless and drenched in alcohol.” “She definitely looks the part,” they joked, and there was an uproar of laughter. “You should start exercising. You know what? I can help! One of my cousins owns a gym nearby. I could tell him to give you a discount on registering.” “Wow, that's amazing, Freya!” “She could probably find someone who's ready to take her.” As they continued talking, my watery eyes dried up. Slowly, my hurt—that pain in my chest—turned into nothing but fucking rage. How dare they talk about me like this?! How dare they have the nerve to judge my character and my personality?! “It's the least I can do to help.” I raised my head and looked back at them. I wanted to shut them up for good! “I have a new boyfriend,” I blurted. The words came out before I could take them back. Everyone looked at me, shocked and then interested. “Who is it?” Freya asked, narrowing her eyes at me. My eyes darted everywhere but at them. I was fucked. “Easton Carter,” I blurted. I did it again! “The hockey star Easton Carter?” someone asked from the crowd. “I don't believe you. Prove it.”EASTON CARTERI had called for a meeting with Ethan at the cafe. At first he was worried but I assured everything was fine right after. He dropped down from his car and walked right into the cafe. It didn't take long before he spotted me.“So, what was so important you had to get me out of an important meeting?” He asked while he sat, propping an eye brow.I sat straighter. I could tell he was trying to decipher what the actual problem was from my expression.“I want to propose to Olive. I want to make her my wife,” I blurted.“Woahhhhhh. I didn't…are you sure?” “Yes. I don't know.”“You're not sure if you want to make your girlfriend your wife?” “I…did that sound bad?” “I don't know,” he rested on the chair, arms crossing his chest. “Is it?”“Look, I didn't call you here to ask me questions.”“I know that. But you called me here because you already have a decision made and need my advice. But it doesn't seem like that.”“I've just been…thinking.”“About what? Does she not want th
OLIVE BECKETT “How is that I just walked round and picked out things that I liked and I'm this exhausted?” I complained from my spot in the kitchen as I watched Easton prepare dinner. He had sent the servants home for the night, so it was only the two of us in their big house.“Walking around can be really stressful you know?”I groaned in agreement then took a sip of my orange juice. “I should have drank a lot of red wine and champagne at your parents anniversary,” I said with a deep sigh.Easton chuckled and dropped a plate of seedless grapes in front of me. “You can have the raw materials of red wine though,” he teased with a smile.“It's not the same,” I groaned and threw one into my mouth. “Oh, this is really good.”He laughed, returning back to the cooker. “The duck will be ready in some minutes.”Smiling as I ate more of the grapes. “Your talents in the kitchen is really impressive. Some months ago, you couldn't even boil rice to save your life and now, here you are preparing
OLIVE BECKETT I could feel myself being carried at first then nothing. I couldn't feel or hear or smell anything.Just darkness. It felt like I was trapped and stuck. I couldn't scream or shout for help. It wasn't a weightless nothingness, the darkness had weight. It pressed into me from all sides.I was…Sharp bright light suddenly filled my vision, I blinked, trying to adjust to the light. Sweet relief filled me as I took a deep breath, I could feel my body.I felt sore in some places but I was okay. Blinking, I looked around, trying to recognize where I was.“Olive,” someone said, their voice light. I felt their hand in mine almost immediately after.I blinked at the direction the voice came from.Who…?Easton. My heart rate increased as memories flooded my head. My vision became blurry with tears. This wasn't the first time I lost consciousness, so why had it felt like that?Something was different.“The doctor is on his way,” Easton comforted me. “Everything is alright. I'm he
OLIVE BECKETT Easton was packing my lunch when I walked into the kitchen all dressed and ready to go.“Thanks babe,” I kissed his cheek. His cooking had gotten really good lately and luckily for me, he enjoyed cooking for me.“Anytime.” He hugged me and handed the bag to me. “I'm having practice today so I won't be able to pick you up.”“Alright. I'll take my car then.”Nodding, he went to bring the keys for me.“Babe, did we later discover who ordered the pizza last night?” I asked.“No. Don't think too much about it. Stuff like this happens once in a while.”“They get the address wrong and deliver things to your house?”“Yep.”He gave me the key and took my bags from me. “As long as the security wasn't worried, everything is all good.”I sighed, “Alright. Thanks for preparing lunch for me. Have a great day.”“You too sweetheart.”We kissed, I took my bags from him and left the house.I couldn't stop thinking about it though. The timing just seemed weird to be just a coincidence. Pl
EASTON CARTER Olive couldn't make it to the meeting with my brother because of work, so she called Summer yesterday to apologize. I was here for both of us.“How does one plan a surprise party for billionaires?” Summer complained from her position on the couch, my brother's lap to be precise.I blinked at her. “I don't understand why you're so worried. They will love anything we prepare, you know this.”This wasn't exactly our first rodeo when it comes to preparing a surprise party for our parents. Given her relationship with me, Summer was always a part of the planning and executing team but most importantly, she used to be the messenger between my brother and I. Granted that it had been a while since we did something like this, it still didn't explain her nervousness.“Yeah but I wasn't their daughter in law then. That changes everything.”I glanced at Ethan to see if he understood what was going on, he shook his head in response.“It's about making a good impression, big oafs,” s
OLIVE BECKETT There was no other soul around here but us and no light either apart from the one coming from streetlights in a distance, I had checked.I went on my toes and kissed him. His lips tasted like salt and his own taste mixed together, I loved it.I heard the wet shirt fall with a thud, Easton wrapped his hand around my waist and took over the kiss.Moaning, I clung harder, rubbing my body against shamelessly his hard cool one. He groaned and proceeded to fuck my mouth with his tongue. Whimpering, I let him, goading him on with little licks.Panting, he pulled back and followed slightly with a whimper.“Fuck sweetheart,” he growled, his thumb tracing my bottom lip. “We're outside, wait for moment and I will give you what you want at home.”I shook my head and took his finger into my mouth. I couldn't see his face clearly but his shiver told me everything I needed to know.He wanted this, just as bad as I did.I spoke around his thumb. “Please? No one is here.”Easton chided
OLIVE BECKETT Great. He'd been standing beside her for a while now. I noticed the way he smiled around her.I thought speaking with strangers would help lessen my jealousy, but I was wrong. I moved closer, laughing as I held a drink in hand.My ears itched to hear what he was telling her that made
EASTON CARTERI fucking hate hangovers. The painkillers should work, sure, but today was important. Last night, my team had scheduled a modeling session with a fashion brand—here in Jersey.I got out of the bathroom, took out a good pair of clothes, and put them on. My phone was pinging with notifi
OLIVE BECKETT He sent a dress over—champagne red, with an open back and a slit. Jess helped me get ready, styling my hair and doing my makeup.By 8 p.m., his Range Rover slipped into the compound. He shot me a quick text, then knocked at the door. I took one last look at myself in the mirror, my h
EASTON CARTERI didn't feel comfortable when I spotted Elliot with her. I had come over during her break, but then I was informed she had stepped out. I tried calling her line and thankfully spotted her friend, Nurse Cici.My chest hurt for some weird reason, and I wasn't at peace. Something was wr
