Michael's voice cut cleanly through the garden, sharp as a blade drawn too quickly. The mist from the waterfall had dampened the air enough that sound carried strangely here, bending around stone and leaf. Still, there was no mistaking the authority in that tone nor the familiarity of it.

Alexander did not turn at once, he already knew who it was. Lucifer, on the other hand, did turn. Slowly and deliberately. As if he had all the time in creation to do so.
