Chapter 1

Penulis: 1111o
After three back-to-back nights of working until 3:00 am, I dropped dead.

Honestly, I thought it was a relief and that my 23 years of corporate misery had finally come to a blissful end. But when I opened my eyes, I found myself transmigrated into a horror game.

Right now, I was sitting in a classroom. A hanging ghost dangled from the blackboard, and its long tongue was dragging across the floor.

A jumper ghost was doing a handstand on the desk with its eyeballs stretched six feet out of their sockets.

Every ghost here had scattered facial features. They were barely recognizable as anything that was once human. Severed limbs and mangled flesh lay everywhere, and the stench of blood filled the air.

Cold sweat soaked through my clothes. I clamped a hand firmly over my mouth and refused to let out a whimper.

"Stay calm. The worse it gets, the calmer you need to be," I muttered and reminded myself.

I lifted my stiff legs and inched toward the corner, but my foot landed on something hard and round at the worst moment possible.

A sharp, piercing screech rang out beside me.

When I quickly lifted my foot to take a look, I noticed it was a bloody eyeball, which gave me such a fright that I recoiled back several steps.

This was something I would normally only see on late-night TV.

A ghost skittered over in a twisted, broken crawl, scooped up the eyeball, and popped it back into its socket.

To suppress the scream in my throat, I pinched myself to stay focused, but the ghost had noticed me.

Its bloodshot eyes locked onto me, like it was about to lunge and tear me apart any second.

Soon, every other ghost seemed to sense something and slowly turned its head toward me too. Dozens of empty or blood-filled eyes stayed fixated on me.

Great. It seemed like today was the day I died for sure.

I squeezed my eyes shut, only to hear faint voices echoing in my mind, carrying different tones and inflections.

"A human! It's a human! She looks so well-behaved!"

"She's tiny, and her nose is under her eyes! That's so cute!"

"Can I pet her? If I touch her, she won't die, will she?"

"She's so adorable that I want to keep her as a pet! What do humans usually eat?"

"Whoa, a human! Gotta take a picture for my great-grandma."

What was going on? Was I hearing all their thoughts? What on earth was that?

Confused, I cracked my eyes open and, sure enough, was met with a room full of menacing, fierce-looking ghosts staring straight at me.

But perhaps influenced by their voices, I had an increasingly strong feeling that their stares weren't exactly hostile. They all had the bright, intense look of someone staring at a puppy they desperately wanted to pet.

Nope… I absolutely had to be imagining it.

I had no idea how long we remained in that standoff, but my legs started going numb.

Finally, the restless ghosts in front of me began to move.

A female ghost hesitantly shuffled forward and stopped just a few steps from me. That was when I finally got a clear look at her face.

Well, I wasn't sure how I should put it… If I could ignore her missing facial features, she might have been quite pretty.

Quietly, I took two steps back.

When the female ghost noticed that I was backing away, she crouched down on the spot and tried her best to radiate friendliness while cautiously scooting toward me.

"Don't be scared, little human. I'm a nice ghost," she gently said. "Come here, and I'll feed you some thigh meat."

I fell silent. What kind of world was this? Why were the ghosts not tearing humans and eating them, but treating them like pets?

Weren't ghosts supposed to wield incredible powers and feast on a thousand souls a night?

While I was processing this insanity, the female ghost had quietly crept forward until she was staring at me at eye level.

When she raised her hand, my body tensed. I braced myself for her to twist my head off at any moment. But all she did was pat me lightly on the head.

Then, I heard her inner voice explode with a blissful squeal.

The ghosts looked fully recharged, lounging around in small groups and staring at me with bright, expectant eyes.A cold, mechanical voice rang in my head. "Game completion reaches 100%. Congratulations on clearing the game, Player. You will be logged out in ten minutes."I froze and was utterly stunned that everything had gone by in just a brief blur. Though it was a horror game, it felt like I was just here working part-time.With a sigh, I put on my brightest smile. "Free hugs limited to one per ghost. Anyone?"After a round of hugging, head-pats, and shoulder squeezes, my arms were sore. I felt oddly embarrassed, like I'd just been sold off to a cat cafe for customer service. "Humans are really warm and squishy! I want one as a pillow!""So this is what a hug feels like… I'm gonna cry.""I knew humans were fluffy, but Jack and his shiny bald head insisted humans were smooth like him! Liar!""I'm offering big money to hire a human hugger! One hug a day keeps the doctor away

I took a wary step back, then froze when I heard familiar voices."I'm here to help, tiny human! Where's the monster?""Ghost squad is here to fight!""Baby, where are you? I'm here, so don't be scared! I'll protect you!""Protecting humans is the duty of ghosts! Kill him!""Slither in darkness! Scream in madness! Rip them apart! Devour! Eat them all!"The mass of black mist barreled around the office before it spotted the pool of rotting filth on the floor.I barely had time to stop them before the ghosts gulped it down in one bite."...That'll probably lead to indigestion," I hesitantly murmured. All the ghosts retched. As the mass of black mist dispersed, the ghosts collapsed in a heap, and each vomited their own share.I walked over to Erin and patted her back. Her face had gone paper-white as she weakly looked up at me. She probably wanted to say something, but her hands were shaking so much that she couldn't even hold a pen."Actually… I can hear your thoughts, so ju

As a result of Erin's death, Wyatt abandoned his initial plan and left me discarded in the car. When I woke up, I found myself lying in a hospital bed. Trauma and psychological factors had erased my memories.I went through the school transfer procedures, changed my name, and moved to another city with my parents. Like any other kid, I grew up, took the SAT, went to college, and lived a steady life all the way to the age of 23.It was only today that I was dragged back to the terrifying past.Since fate had brought me back here, I would end it all for good. This time, I'd never escape again.Tightening the grip on the fruit knife, I pushed open the office door and noticed the vase I once smashed standing perfect and untouched on the desk.Sure enough… Everything in the game world was looping, so the only way out was to end things where they began.Behind me, the lock clicked shut before Wyatt's footsteps drew closer."Peggy, I called you in today to discuss the details of your

Every strange flicker of familiarity was finally explained. The dried blood on the female student's wrist seemed to travel across the years and pulsed with pain through the old scar on my own.Memories surged into my mind in waves, though they never asked if I wanted them back.I'd grown up living with my grandma while my parents worked overseas. Even when I was bullied, I was alone without protection or help. That was how Wyatt set his sights on me.He called me into his office alone and locked the door. But before he could lay his hands on me, I sensed that something was wrong.I grabbed a vase from his desk and smashed it over his head, bolting while he reeled in pain.Back then, I naively thought I'd won a battle and had no clue that it was just the beginning of my torture.…At Wyatt's signal, all sorts of trash began showing up on my desk, including used tissues, bottles, and food wrappers…My seat was turned into a garbage pit.My completed homework was torn up and du

A chill crawled straight up my spine. After that day, the attendance log contained only Erin's increasingly panicked, distorted handwriting."Mr. Prescott, I saw Peggy hurting herself. What should I do? She could die."I did everything you asked. You promised my dad wouldn't lose his job."Mr. Prescott, Peggy's falling apart. Can we please stop now? I'm begging you."Later, large sections of the log were left blank. Only the last page recorded one final attendance note. Peggy dropped out, while Erin died in a car crash. Wyatt had used his authority to crush two helpless female students.Like fresh, bright, and barely blooming flowers, they were ground into the dirt by malice before they ever witnessed dawn or dusk.Hatred churned in my chest, so intense that it felt unbearable.…As I set the attendance log down, the sudden emotional drain left me feeling weak.Erin was still seated behind me, revived by the swarm of ghosts frantically shaking her awake, though I had my dou

I examined the rope and ran it through my hands inch by inch. However, I found nothing unusual. Since the problem wasn't with the rope, it must be with the ghosts.I looked up and scanned the circle of ghosts sitting around me, including three hanging and 17 jumper ghosts, and one especially unusual ghost.Grimmie's injuries were catastrophic. She looked like she'd been hit by a car and repeatedly run over. Who would commit such insanity in a school? What exactly happened here that left students dying in every horrific way imaginable? Before I could connect the dots, Grimmie sat beside me. She finally seemed calmer now, and though her face was still flushed, at least she'd stopped rapping in her head. She brought me a new clue. It was a class attendance log, recording details of daily class matters. But the ghosts had searched every nook and cranny of the classroom looking for clues earlier… So why had the log only appeared now? Before I could probe, Grimmie grabbed a pen and b
