CHAPTER ONE

LUCIAN’s POV.

A knock came on my door and I raised my head from the document I was reviewing. I didn’t say a word, i just kept staring at the door.

Another knock and another until I was almost furious. Who was dumb enough to continue knocking on my door with such stupidity? Everyone in the company knew my rules but somehow, a fool decided to become a scapegoat today.

The knock came again and this time I actually pulled my body off the revolving chair—making my way to the door.

As soon as I pulled the door open and my eyes landed on him—my wolf reacted. Weird! My wolf has not reacted to anyone in years and definitely not this person standing in front of me. My eyes traveled over him, he wasn’t above twenty three years but then.

“Mr Hale” his voice pulled me out of my reverie and I found myself wanting to hear his voice again—how bizarre, “HR asked me to bring this to your office sir”

“Who are you?” My deep baritone voice rang out.

“I am Dominick, the new intern for HR sir”

A new intern? I wasn’t aware we were having a new intern. My eyes traveled over him again. He was clad in a black suit that actually looked good on him. His hair was pulled into a bun atop his head and he had this boyish look that would make him come off as a flirt to many people.

Without another word, I turned back to the room and made my way back to my table. I picked up the intercom and beeped the head of Hr.

“Sir” his voice filtered through.

“To my office now!” I ordered and ended the call while returning my gaze back to the boy standing by the door. He looked confused and it was —cute!

“Come on In” I offered and he nodded before covering the distance between us. He dropped the document on the table and just stood there, looking everywhere but me.

“Do I make you uncomfortable?”

“Not at all sir” he answered too soon with a fake smile plastered across his lips.

Liar!! Of course I made him uncomfortable. I made everyone uncomfortable in ways they wouldn’t dare to talk about it. I have also heard stories about me. Some call me the devil in human form, some call me the executioner alpha but the fact remains, none of them would dare to say it to my face.

“Sit” I ordered again, “HR will be here soon”

“Thank you sir, I don’t think..

“Sit down, Dominik” I called out again.

“Yes sir”

He immediately lowered himself on the couch while I pulled my laptop close again but my eyes never left him. There was something about him, something that intrigued me about him. Something i couldn’t place my hands on but i knew they were something about him that made my wolf to react that way. He wasn’t even a wolf, just a lowly human who has come to be an intern here.

He was uncomfortable, i could see it from the way he was clenching and unclenching his hand and also sighing at intervals.

“Why did you react when you saw him?” I asked my wolf.

“There is something about him” he answered, “but I can’t place it yet”

At that moment a knock came on the door and it pushed open—head of HR stepped in.

“Sir”

I pulled away from the laptop as my gaze settled on him.

“You called for me sir”

“Who is this?” I gestured to the man seated on my couch who now had a look of relief over his face, he must have been really uncomfortable.

“The new intern sir”

“Was I aware of that?”

“Yes sir” Brown nodded, “you approved the list yourself sir. They are meant to be two but the lady called in sick”

My eyes traveled to Dominic again and a small smirk played across my lips but i immediately shut it off—for now.

“And you sent him to my office without any kind of notice?”

“I am sorry sir” Brown apologized, “I didn’t—

“Dominik” I called out to him and he immediately pulled his body off the chair, fear returning to his face.

“What’s your work as an intern?” I asked.

“I am supposed to watch what everyone does, help with anything I can for now until the training is done”

“I see” my eyes rested on his neck—he had a cross tattoo there and it was—cute and warming.

“Make him my new secretary” I announced much to the amazement of the two of them. I was also surprised at myself because I hated incompetence the most and this intern didn’t look like he knew anything.

“Sir?” Brown was surprised beyond words.

“Sir?” Dominic too was amazed, his eyes bulged out of their socket.

“Your secretary sir? You already have one and you..

“Will you question me now?” I raised an eyebrow at him, “is that a problem?”

“Not at all sir, I am just—“ his voice trailed off as I my eyes darkened the more. He became too scared to talk, he couldn’t even complete his statement.

“I will get right to it sir” he finally responded before turning around and making his way out of the office leaving the two of us alone.

“Sir, why would you..

“Welcome on board, Dom” I cut him off as I stretched out my hand towards him for a shake. His eyes opened wider—he was too surprised to even hide it.

Dominic gently took my hand and I moaned out softly. His palm was soft—too soft. I couldn’t help but wonder how the other part of his body felt, if there were as soft as his palm.

“Easy, Alpha” my wolf warned, bringing me back from the brink of insanity.

“Thank you sir”

“I will teach you everything you need to know” I further added, “just be open to learn” I took a step closer to him, “and we will be a good team”

“Of—of course sir”

Winking at him, I turned away back to my seat bur he kept standing there like he was waiting for my next order.

He was a fine specimen of a man from where he was standing and I wouldn’t mind staring at him for as long as it took. My heart hasn’t fluttered like this since Derrick but now—

“Go meet HR” I said, “he will tell you what to do”

“Yes sir”

With a shallow bow, he hastened out of the office while I bit down on my lips lightly. In all thirty four years of my life, I have never felt attracted to someone so fast.

“Fuck!” I muttered under my breath while closing my eyes. I thought this chapter was over but here he comes trying to rip off everything I have struggled so hard to work on.

My relationship with Derrick was a secret for years until he decided he couldn’t do that again and he left. I didn’t go after him, I had no reason too. My pack mattered most to me and not some boy who didn’t know what he wanted but now comes another.

“It’s going to be the same” I said to myself again, “it was always going to be the same”

But a tiny voice in my head laughed—I knew it wasn’t.
