LOGIN176. LUTHER Six months later. It's been four months since I moved into my college dorm room in Sterling Medicine School, and I don't think I have even had a second to catch my breath. I'm used to hard and challenging things. I'm used to studying till the words dance on the paper right in front of my eyes, but nothing prepared me for what Sterling Medicine School brought for me. Neurology is one of the toughest fields of study, and our professor told us that even though we were picked from the very best, only about 40 percent of us will survive the vigorous 12 years it will take us to become a neurologist. I've been going from lecture halls straight to the lab, only to return to my room to sleep for maybe four hours. At least I have a good sleep since I don't have a roommate. It's one of the perks of my scholarship, and the fact that I am so popular because of my brain. Whenever my mother asks how I am, I tell her that I am fine, but that's nothing but a lie.
175. JANAE When Marlon Gustave Sr told me that he was going to find me a job, I thought it was going to be something small, in a corner office, helping a company that is dancing at the edge of bankruptcy. But it's far from it. I saw the mansion, and I immediately knew that something huge was in store for me. Yet, nothing prepares me for the company I am to work for. Early in the morning, I get ready in my luxury bathroom to find my way around the new city, and get to my new place of work, but to my surprise, a car is honking outside for me. I'm dressed alright, I just need to finish my morning coffee, so I rush downstairs to see who is in the car, and I am met by a middle-aged man in a smart suit. "Hello, good morning, Miss Wayne," he smiles. "My name is Eddie, and I'm your driver. I believe I'm going to take you to Fargo tech headquarters." "Oh, hi," I smile sweetly back at him. "You're a company driver? You really shouldn't have come," I gesture to Luther's car, "I have my s
174. Marlon, I have to start by saying yet again how sorry I am to have broken your heart. I know you hate me right now, more than anything in the world, and I want to tell you that it's alright. I understand if you do. I didn't mean for any of this to happen, I never planned to fall in love with you and then just walk away from all of it. When I came to Densberry with my mother, I never thought a small gloomy town like this could be so kind to me. Yes, I consider Densberry to be kind, even after everything that happened to me. You are the reason I am grateful that my mother looked at that map and pointed at the small town in the southern corner, and decided to make it our temporary hiding place. Then I met you, and thought I had some sort of bad luck because of the way you bullied me. If I had the strength to fight you, I would have, but I'm so weak. I thought it was one of your wicked pranks the first time you kissed me, I believed I was just scared to even imagine that a h
173. LUTHER The rest of the night, which happens to be the longest of my life, I spend in the bathtub , immersed in cold water. I have cried till there are no tears left in my eyes, and I just stare at the blank wall till the early hours of the morning. I'm not even sleepy, not even a bit, because I keep thinking about Marlon, and how hard this breakup hit him. Since I can't sleep, I get up and just put on my clothes. I start to load the boxes of our stuff into the car. We aren't taking much. All the furniture and other things we don't need, will be taken to the charity organization later. Mum is going to call one of our neighbors to help do that. It's a lot of work lifting those boxes to the car, is a full body workout, but I really don't mind. Anything to take my mind off Marlon. By the time I'm down to two boxes, mum walks out of her room rubbing her eyes. "L– Luther what are you doing?" She looks around the almost empty living room. "Good morning, mum," I say. "Luther
172. LUTHER My heart shatters once Marlon starts to laugh. He thinks it's a joke. He falls back against the bed and holds his tummy as he laughs even harder. "Look at this silly boy trying to joke with me! Break up? Are you insane? This is the best we have ever found ourselves, why would we ruin such a good thing?" He wants for me to laugh with him, and agree that it's just a stupid prank, but I don't. I walk over to grab the blanket, which I roughly wrap around my waist. "I'm serious, Marlon, I swear," I tell him. "My mum and I are leaving Densberry," "That's simply not true!" I groan and pull at my face, "If you think I'm joking, then why am I packing up my stuff?!" "I don't know, Luther, maybe you are too excited to go off to college! Some people are weird like that!" "It's not true, Marlon, I'm leaving. I swear on my life." "Quit it, Luther, before I punch you again. Do I look like I am in the mood for games?" He warns me. "I'm not trying to be funny, I'm telling the t
171. LUTHER "What?" My jaw slacks all the way to the ground. "I said Nancy Huston is out of Densberry," Marlon folds his hands. "She got released from the police station, picked up her child's body from the morgue, and had her buried in the cemetery." My chest feels tight, and I feel around for something to lean on. "Do you think that she is going to like to kill herself or something?" My voice shakes. "What? No," Marlon snorts, "she is too vain for that. She only wants to escape any further investigations from the police, I heard everything from my father because he just returned from his trip. She contacted a real estate agent to sell her house and other properties that belong to her husband. Heck, maybe I'll convince my father to buy them." My eyes squint, as I shake my head at his distasteful remark, "Marlon, that's not funny." "Oh, you are just a sad little boy who feels sorry for every Dick and Harry on the planet!" He snorts, "Nancy deserves everything that came her way,
Luther's POV “Wh– what?” I stammer. “Come on, stop being a pussy.” He growl under his breath. “You want to fight me, don't you?” I swallow a dry gulp, I couldn't take my eyes away from his. Him holding me against the wall like this, it was doing something to me, it was causing a stir in my pant
Luther's POV Panic grows in my chest, my head is throbbing with a headache. My nose is bleeding terribly, and I start to feel hazy due to the loss of blood. I don't have a handkerchief with me, so I fold my sweater and place it over my nostrils. Marlon, my assaulter, is gone now, and I have to
Luther's POVI walk to and fro the door so many times, but I can't bring myself to walk into that classroom. To be honest, I would prefer to just leave. I want to go back home and tell my mother that we should move to a new town all together. But she is definitely going to say no. My reluctance
Luther's POV My mother's old tires screeched as the car come to a stop in front of a small bungalow. The house is so old that the paint is practically falling off. The sky roars with thunder, and the raindrops beat against the roof of the car. It's like a thousand spirits are telling us that we
