Chapter Five

Emma

Getting out of the house was a bit of a problem, but we managed to work it out.

At that point I was in a car, going to a place I didn't know where it was.

"Are you cold?" my brother looks at me worriedly.

"No, I'm fine."

I think for a moment about what I have done. Could this bring a lot of trouble to my family?

But it's like Luigi said, I have to think more about myself.

We arrive at a roadside hotel. I get out of the car and look around. I was a little nervous.

"Are we stopping here?"

"Yes, I need to take care of some things, but as soon as I'm done, I promise we'll leave. It will if only for a few hours."

He asks for a room and leads me to the place. Luigi locks the door from the outside and leaves.

I throw the backpack I brought some clothes on the bed.

I lie down on the bed and close my eyes. I think it would be good to get some sleep.

I wake up to a strange noise coming from the door. The light goes on and I sit up quickly.

I shout when I see who is standing there.

"Hi, my love," his voice comes out laden with debauchery.

"What do you want here? Leave me alone!"

I take my body further and further back. I wanted to get as far away as I could.

"I'm going to take you back and this time we're going to get married!"

"Forget about me for once, get yourself another wife. You have so many options."

He gives an evil laugh and that makes me even more scared.

"I could really get another one, since you give me so much trouble. But just because you dared to run away, I decided to get you for myself."

"Get it for you? What do you think I am?"

"My property!"

I try to run away, but Boris comes towards me and holds me tight.

"Please do not hurt me."

"Hurt you? Not that. I'll leave that to your family. Let's start with your brother."

"No!"

On impulse, I end up hugging him. It was an instant reaction. I didn't think straight, I just did it.

The mobster is paralyzed, unresponsive to my reckless act.

"Don't do anything to my brother, I beg you" I couldn't hold back the tears "I'm getting married, I swear I'm getting married."

"I've heard that before."

"This time I mean it. I will marry you, I will be a good wife. I will become whatever you want, just don't hurt Luigi."

I was willing to do anything to keep him from hurting my brother. If it was my fault that Luigi got hurt, I would never forgive myself.

"Your words are worth nothing anymore. Not after what you dared to do. Did you really think you'd get away with it?" I remain silent "It wasn't a rhetorical question."

"I at least had to try. You scared the hell out of me, Mr. Mikhailovich."

"You're pushing me over the edge, Emma."

Effortlessly, he picks me up. I'm carried until I reach the parking lot, where his car was.

"Allow me to leave a warning for my brother."

"He'll know it was me."

Boris puts me in the car without the slightest delicacy. He also comes in and stands next to me.

Then I go back all over again, heading straight for my house.

I hurried on thinking I could get away. But his security didn't see us leaving. How did he know where I was going? He found me so fast.

After a few minutes, the car pulls up in front of my house.

Before I could get out of the car, Boris grabbed my arm and made me look at him.

"If I won't lock you up until marriage, it's out of respect for your father. But don't let that happen again, or your brother will die for violating our contract."

"It won't happen again, I swear!"

The mobster looks me in the eyes for a while, not sure if he's looking for something there.

He leans forward and kisses me. But that only lasts a second before Boris angrily walks away.

"Get out now! "

I don't think twice before getting out of the car.

I get home and see my parents waiting for me. My mom looks at me worried and my dad angrily.

"Are you crazy girl? Do you know what you were about to do?"

"Please my love. Calm down, Emma had a good reason."

"The good motive was to kill everyone?"

"Daddy…" he won't let me speak.

"Go up to your room. You will stay there until the wedding."

***

So the wedding day finally arrived. I was in a stunning dress, much better than the first one.

For everyone else it might be a wedding, but for me it feels like a funeral.

I was burying my freedom, my wills, everything that allowed me to be free.

I no longer have a first and last name, now I will just be Boris Mikhailovich's wife. It made me angry and deeply saddened.

I try to be strong all the time, but when I see in my mind the way he treats me, I just get scared.

"You are so beautiful."

"Thank you mom."

The seamstress finishes fixing my dress and leaves the room.

So I was finally done. Hair, makeup and dress.

"Do you know where Luigi is? I think Boris might have done something to him."

"Your father didn't allow him to show up, even more so after what he did. Don't think about it too much now. You need to clear your mind for what's to come."

I had totally forgotten about the honeymoon. Shit, shit, shit! I have to go to bed with that man.

I have no experience with this, it was totally saved for him. What if the mobster isn't nice to me? I'm scared now.

"Mom, what do I do? You've seen Mr. Mikhailovich, he doesn't look kind."

"Stay calm, my love. Just don't forget everything you've learned."

Nervousness takes over my body. I need to do something to make sure that doesn't happen now. Maybe I should lie that I'm on my period?

"It's time" Liana puts her hand on my shoulder.

I leave the room and go down the stairs very carefully so as not to get my dress dirty.

"Who will be my godmother?"

"I don't know, she was chosen by your fiance."

"He decided that too. Can't I decide anything about my own life?"

"Be calm, daughter."

"I can't stay calm, that man is a monster."

When my father appears, I quickly become quiet. He also causes me a lot of fear.

In silence, we all go to the car. The silence remains until we arrive at the wedding location.

My mother is the first to leave, after which I leave too.

A few people show up and are quick to get me ready.

The wedding march starts to play and then it's time. My father holds my arm and escorts me to where my fiancé was standing.

Just as I arrive, a woman takes the bouquet from my hand. I imagine it is my godmother, who I have no idea who she is.

"Be respectful to my daughter" is the only thing my father says before I hand my hand to him.

Boris had a possessive gleam in his eye as soon as he holds my hand.

Before the ceremony can continue, someone appears in the midst of the people.

"Don't do this, Emma. Don't force yourself to marry this man!"

It was my brother who was trying to stop the wedding for the last time. He had a gun and was pointing it at Boris.

God... That was not going to end well.
