Chapter 3

Author: Enlightened
She began to calculate out loud, her voice so loud that she could almost blow off the roof.

"Mom gave you 20,000 points to exchange for that double-door refrigerator. And then what? You took the vouchers for yourself and bought some junk to deceive the family!

"And the massage chair! That was also 20,000 points! You took them all! You owe the family at least 500,000 dollars in total!"

Cheryl grew more excited as she spoke; it was as if she had found my weakness. "If you don't spit out the 500,000 dollars to me as my wedding gift today, forget about leaving this place!"

Our relatives were stunned. Maybe they believed each point was worth 100 dollars. After all, my mom had been bragging about it for years.

I looked at the greedy faces of my family members and laughed so hard that I almost shed tears. "Okay, 500,000 dollars, huh."

I nodded and took out my phone. "Since you all believe that those appliances were exchanged with reward vouchers and that I pocketed the extra, you believe they are worthless."

I opened an app that sold second-hand goods and showed them the phone screen. "I'll call the scrap collectors right now. The refrigerator, TV, washing machine, and massage chair will be taken away and sold as scrap. You can have whatever amount I sell them for. What about that?"

Cheryl panicked. The refrigerator was full of her daily snacks, and she lay on that massage chair every day as she doom-scrolled TikTok.

"Who are you to sell my things? Those are ours!"

I stared icily at her. "Weren't they redeemed using reward vouchers? The vouchers belonged to Mom, and the items were mine to dispose of. Isn't it right to sell them for cash to give back to Mom? Didn't you just accuse me of pocketing the vouchers? Now I'm turning the goods into cash to return to you. What's the matter? Too scared to take it?"

Cheryl was so flustered by my retort that her face and neck turned bright red.

Seeing her precious youngest daughter humiliated, my mom trembled with rage and raised her hand to strike me. "You ungrateful brat! Are you trying to drive us mad?"

Before her slap could land, I grabbed her wrist. I gripped it so hard she cried out in pain.

"Mom, cut the act." I flung her hand aside and swept my gaze over everyone present. "If we're settling scores today, let's do it properly."

Just then, Lana Higgins, my cousin-in-law who had remained silent until now, suddenly held her phone up higher.

She was a micro-influencer who loved chasing clout.

I glanced at her screen; thousands of people were watching her livestream.

The headline read: [Breaking News! Ungrateful Daughter Drives Elderly Mother Mad at Christmas Dinner for Embezzling Her Pension!]

The comments were scrolling past rapidly, filled with scolding and curses directed at me.

[A daughter like this deserves to just drop dead.]

[She's a total leech; she even scammed her own mother of her retirement savings.]

Noticing my gaze, Lana did not look away; instead, she smugly read the comments aloud to my mom. "Aunt Sophia, the netizens are all on your side. They're saying they'll call the police to arrest her right now."

Hearing she had backup, my mom instantly started acting. Clutching her chest, she slumped back into her chair and began wailing theatrically. "Oh, my heart... my life's savings... that money was meant for Cheryl's wedding gift... and that ingrate scammed it all..."

Cheryl immediately wiped away tears for the camera; her acting was so good it was a crime she had not won an Oscar. "Everyone, be the judge here. My sister lives in the city, driving luxury cars and living in a mansion, yet she still scams her mom out of her meager retirement fund and tries to sell off our fridge and TV. Who does something like that?"

Public opinion turned against me completely.

The relatives present pointed fingers at me, while viewers in the livestream condemned me.

I instantly became the villain everyone hated.

  • Mom's Christmas Reward Vouchers   Chapter 10

Three months later, I moved to a new city, changed my job, and blocked all my family's contacts. I only kept one setting where 1,500 dollars would be automatically transferred every month.According to a sensible cousin from my hometown, who was the daughter of Lana, whose account was banned, Cheryl had to work at a factory to pay off her debts. Every day, she came home exhausted, only to care for our bedridden mother. They could not afford a caregiver, so the two spent their days fighting and cursing each other. My mother called Cheryl a thief, saying she stole her pension money.Cheryl called my mother senile for insisting on spoiling her. Now both of them were suffering. The home that had once been consumed by greed and vanity was now a living hell filled with endless chaos.I sat on the balcony of my new home, sipping on coffee. In my hand was a scratch-off lottery ticket that I had just received from the supermarket.[Congratulations! You have won a 5-dollar voucher.]I s

At the hospital, my mom lay in bed with an IV drip attached. The doctor said it was due to a sudden emotional outburst and a spike in blood pressure. There was no immediate danger to her life, but she needed to rest.Cheryl was taken away by the police to make a statement. Because she was an immediate family member and my mom refused to file a case against her and arrest her after waking up, they only gave her a verbal warning and let her go back. The atmosphere in the ward was tense. My mom looked ten years older as she lay there, staring blankly at the ceiling.Cheryl sat on the side, cutting apples, her hands still shaking. She did not dare look at our mom or at me. "Celeste... Could you lend me some money to cover the shortfall?"Cheryl suddenly spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Mom needs money for treatment. That financial platform may have vanished, but I'm still trying to recover a little..."I looked at her, filled with disbelief. Even now, all she could think ab

I thought this matter had come to an end for the time being.Unexpectedly, the real disaster occurred just two days later.I was at work when I suddenly received a call from the police station. "Are you Sophia Lawson's daughter? Your mother made a scene at the bank and smashed the counter glass. Please come over."When I arrived at the police station, my mom was throwing a full-blown tantrum in the mediation room.Cheryl stood off to the side, shrinking into herself and not daring to say a word."What happened?" I asked a police officer. The police officer looked helpless. "The old lady insists that the bank swallowed her money. She said her account had 300,000 dollars in pension funds, but now it's all gone. She insists that the bank stole it."'300,000 dollars?' I thought and was stunned for a moment. My mom was ridiculously stingy, even picking rotten vegetable leaves out of the trash to eat. Could she really have saved 300,000 dollars? Moreover, if she had that much money

As soon as the word "fraud" was uttered, the air in the private room seemed to be sucked dry.My mom stopped whimpering and sat up straight, showing no sign of having a heart attack at all."Are... Are you going to sue your own mother?" She stared at me in disbelief."You two forced me to do it." I pulled out a chair and sat down calmly.Just then, Lana suddenly shrieked. "Ah! My livestream! It's been banned!"It turned out that because I had shown too many real transaction records and the word "fraud", along with the frenzied reports from netizens, the platform judged that the live stream room had illegal inducement and fraud risks, so they suspended Lana's account. Before the account was suspended, the final wave of traffic had already propelled the livestream to the top of the local trending charts. The headline now read: [Toxic Family Exposed: Daughter Fights Back in Epic Showdown].Lana was on the verge of tears. She had only wanted to ride the drama to gain followers, bu

I opened the banking app and effortlessly retrieved the transaction records for the past three years. "Lana, bring the camera closer."I called out to the still-dazed Lana. She subconsciously pointed the camera at my phone screen."May 2021, transferred to Cheryl, remark: computer purchase, 8,000 dollars.""October 2021, transferred to mom, remark: medicine for dad, 5,000 dollars.""January 2022, payment for Amazon order, double-door refrigerator, 12,999 dollars.""June 2022, sponsorship for Cheryl's graduation trip, 10,000 dollars."...I read them out one by one. Each one had an electronic receipt with the time, amount, and remarks. The entries went on and on, adding up to well over half a million."Mom, Cheryl." I put away my phone and looked at their pale faces. "Did this money come from the points conversion? Or did my bank card also get hacked and I faked it myself?"The evidence was conclusive. No matter how much they tried to argue, they seemed powerless in the face

She rushed toward me, trying to snatch my tablet, but I was well-prepared. I turned sideways and quickly pressed the screen-sharing button. The TV screen lit up.The Happy Shopping Mart app interface appeared on the screen for everyone to see, including Lana's livestream that was flooding everyone's feeds. The screen was huge, and the fonts were clear. Even the words "Welcome, esteemed member Ms. Sophia Lawson" could be seen clearly.Cheryl still tried to struggle. "It must be a picture you photoshopped! It's fake!"I clicked the refresh button on the tablet in front of everyone. The page turned and reloaded."Look, a real-time connection."I clicked on the "My Points" section.Everyone focused on the numbers. There were no rumored millions, nor was there a premium amount that could be exchanged for gold. There was only a pitiful...[Current Available Points: 328 points][Redeemable Goods: Strong Stain Removing Soap (200 points), 2 Eggs (300 points)]The entire room was qu
