Yet, this culprit still ran loose in the premises like a goddamn lion!

All I had was myself and my wolf. One sniff of the air around this criminal, and we knew it was HIM!

"Stop right there, mister. We don't wanna make this difficult." I said. His dreaded voice replied.

"W-why are you following me?"

"Why are you still running away?"

Let's admit one thing—this guy wasn't the smartest cookie.

"That's it." Shifting into my wolf, I gave the guy the scare of his life! At that very moment, the lights flickered and the hallways went dark! All he saw were my glowing red eyes.

I could smell his terror. Ah...The rare scent of a scared man.

One growl, and the files in his hands dropped.

But before that happened? Someone walked in.

And HE was the reason all lights went off, before generators kicked in.

"Healer Elaine..." his deep voice rang through like a siren. My eyes widened.

'Shit!' I said to myself in my head.

It was just Dr Alex Langford, right? So why was I scared along with the culprit here? You'll see why very quickly.

His body levitated right in the centre of the corridor. His hands folded behind him.

"A- A Phoenix...!" The culprit, the fake male nurse was shaking in his knees. I could see the turmoil in his eyes. Then, he shook his head, as if telling himself something.

"To be caught by a phoenix? It's better if I..." the forger's eyes darted to the breezy open window beside him. My eyes widened again.

"If I just DIED!"

He leapt so quickly! In a flick, the forger was out of the window, ready to sacrifice himself for the crime!

"NO!" I screamed, as if that'd help.

A sudden looming silence fell, however. I didn't hear any thuds or screams. Just...silence.

I stuck my head out of the window, only to see...The forger is floating on golden, glimmering clouds.

It was the Phoenix who stood behind me, controlling matter and time around the forger.

"His name is McKenna Kelvin. A siren."

A siren...!?

"Call the police, if you'd be so kind, Healer Elaine. And thank you. I wouldn't have known either." His compliment felt like a pat on my back. And I rushed to call the police.

I didn't know why Dr Alex trusted me so much, but as soon as Kelvin was arrested and sent for questioning, the lockdown was lifted.

I'd never lie but...why did I feel like I was made a pawn?

Then, the sudden claps began. It seems...they've understood I was their hero. Everyone's.

"We can finally go home now!" Nurses and doctors yelled. Celebrated even. Goddammit. I wish I could've done that sooner!

That served as a distraction, however. I almost forgot about all the ruckus. My focus shifted back to Jean.

We were still in the hospital parking lot as the last doctor wished me and left home, when Dr Rayleigh approached me.

"Hey...I uh...I'm sorry for not wishing you sooner. I was telling Jean about your heroic senses—told him he'd be a good wolf like you one day." Rayleigh said. "And uh...I was thinking maybe you'd come home for dinner with me?"

A smile spread on my face.

"Everyone's acting like I lifted the lockdown by myself. I wouldn't have done it without Dr Alex you know?"

"He wasn't the one who sniffed out the culprit, you know?" Rayleigh teased back, it made us laugh.

"I'll...get dressed," I said, the man gave me a sweet, curt nod.

Before leaving the hospital, however, I didn't miss meeting my lovely son. He was feeling and looking a lot better! Especially with a special kid's room with decorated walls and almost infinite toys, I could tell how much Jean loved it. Although he couldn't move around as much.

Jean stared at my blue and yellow gown as I leaned over him.

"Let's be on our best behaviour, baby. Nurse John is gonna take very good care of you. I'll be back tomorrow, first thing in the morning." I said, brushing his soft hair gently. Jean yawned in my face, and I didn't mind it one bit.

"Goodnight, mamma." He said sweetly. With a kiss on his forehead, I wished him back, "Goodnight, my angel."

Dr Rayleigh's BMW shone like a beacon among all other cars in the parking lot. Easier to spot too. Why? Because the man dressed in a sweet candy pink tuxedo and white tuck shirt waved at me from a distance. The contrast? Caught everyone's eyes, not just mine.

"You didn't have to, Rayleigh!" I exclaimed, kissing his cheek as we hugged softly. His chuckle seeped into my ear.

"I just invited the most beautiful woman to dinner. How could I not make myself presentable? Talking about presentable..." Rayleigh took a step back, scanning my outfit with that flattering smile. I felt as though his smiles were exclusive... for me.

"Very, very presentable. Ugh." He shuddered like a high school boy at a prom. Me? His partner!

We drove to his home. The tyres ground on a cobblestone-studded driveway before coming to a soft halt. His house was brightly lit. Just how rich are these human doctors, man?

"My lady," walking around the car, he opened the door for me, my hand sat in his. Rayleigh brought the back of my hand to his lips. I watched his eyes close softly, and a sweet, chaste kiss was placed on my knuckles.

I melted.

"You're too affectionate, Rayleigh."

"I'm just too happy to bring my favourite woman home again." He chuckled. We walked inside, hands intertwined.

His butler, Mr Roan prepared a meal beforehand. I could tell by his gentle smile, that he was proud of his master bringing home a lady like me. That kind of smile never goes unnoticed.

After the scrumptious dinner, Mr Roan bowed, "Have a wonderful evening, sir, madame."

"You as well, Roan." Rayleigh greeted before closing the door. I stood right behind Rayleigh, thighs clenched with excitement.

Was this night gonna end in a way I thought? I was definitely expecting it.

The wine was strong enough to intoxicate a wolf like me. Trust me, it's almost impossible for a wolf to get drunk. I was tipsy.

Well, I was expecting the right things from the night,

Because the moment Rayleigh turned around? We ran into each other, lips pressed hard almost like an attack!

"Mhmm...mhm!" I made all kinds of sounds, rubbed my chest on his. He took it up a notch! Made me hook onto his hips as we ended up in his bedroom!

  • Mommy, Daddy Doesn't Want Us Back?   Forger

[27 hours since hospital lockdown...]Dr Alex Langford has been helpful so far. All new patient admits have been directed to nearby hospitals. Nurses, doctors, and even janitors couldn't step outside. Meanwhile, security questioned every single hospital crew and anyone in sight, including me. I saw it was my turn after Dr Rayleigh. The storeroom was converted into a makeshift questioning room. Hundreds of interrogations already carried out. So I was being nice when I walked in with a cup of cold coffee. His eyebrow raised,"You're trying to impress me, Ms Elaine?" I didn't like his expression. But what could I say when it was the director and the Phoenix himself? Dr Luthor Langford sat across from me, eyebrow stretched and expression suggesting...suspicion on me. "Just trying to look decent, doctor," I said, sitting down with my own cup of iced latte. "So. Would you like to tell me where you were at 8:45 am yesterday, Healer Elaine?" "I was at the Coming Of Age program held at Ja

  • Mommy, Daddy Doesn't Want Us Back?   Forgery

"Until I find the one who forged my signature... no one is allowed to step in or out of this hospital." The verdict has been given. A man, clad in a police uniform, stepped in, hand on his gun belt. "And on whose authority is this protocol exercised?" His condescending voice questioned Dr Rayleigh. Clearly, the security wasn't happy about it. "On mine." A new voice answered—a male. Our heads turned to him. It was the dean of medicine—Dr. Alex Langford. The hallway, full of people, moved out of their way in respect to the old soul. A Phoenix. His power was extraordinary. As he walked, it felt as though fire engulfed the path. It felt so...warm. Even I, unfamiliar with his presence, felt like bowing to him. His dark complexion made him stand out, too like a leader. "Why aren't we moving?" His polite voice asked the security. Seriousness replaced the pissed look on his face. Grabbing the collar telecom, he instructed,"Shut down all exits. It's gonna be a while." And then, Dr Al

[Time - 8:49 am]The seats were cushioned just like corruption. My ass hurt. They didn't even give us water bottles. Imagine waiting for 2 hours because the CEO of Fenris&Co decided to attend a 'surgery'. A life-saving one, indeed. When he came up on stage, his tousled hair and an almost buttoned-down shirt with creases were photographed. Excessively. In a way, the flashes could blind any ordinary man up there. But he was Jacob Fenris. The man was used to it all.I kept staring at a few things in particular. The shade of pink and red smeared across his lips was barely noticeable. When he walked in, he carried a whiff of air smelling like 'cheese' with him. Needless to mention—he just made his secretary smile ear to ear, holding the clipboard. I could see her behind the curtains from where I was seated. Pathetic. "Today..." he announced loudly, breathing sharply with that annoying old man's snot inhale sound, "We will be a witness to one of the best, most powerful chemical miracles.

Elaine's POV I've been in my room for Goddess knows how long. Jean's health was declining. My ego, pride, and revenge were on the line. Which one weighed more?My son's life or my ego? What kind of a mother was I? Having that question pop into my mind was foolish in itself. "I'm such a loser..." I said to myself. A loser mother who can't even decide what to do. Just then, I got a call from Dr. Rayleigh. "Hello..." My voice was hoarse. I'd been crying. Again. I was also breaking my promise to Jean by crying and accepting my weakness. "I'm outside your room, Elaine. I've been knocking." He said calmly. "O-oh..." I scrambled to my feet, wiping tears away and patting my cheeks. Shouldn't look like I've been crying. "Sorry, it's just...I've been scrolling on the phone, haha." I lied, dangling the phone between us. I invited him in. "I heard what Dr. Taylor suggested. You should listen to her, but the decision is yours. I understand you." His kind words carried me away. Just last

The poet was happy. I never thought I'd be swayed with words ever again. But my son's doctor had me feeling some kind of way~ The breeze was gentle. The walk up the small hill to reach Fenris Mansion was brief and quiet. Yet it felt like a milestone. "Now we get to put our acting masks on." Said Dr. Rayleigh. I pulled up my black mask. The soft tissue, which mimicked the softness of linen, hugged my face. This small piece of cloth alone would be as expensive as the locket that hung on my neck all the time. Dr. Rayleigh truly believed in comfort. But just a little differently than I. "...yeah, yeah, I heard that. Just cancel the deal if they're not bringing profits, you bastard!" I was appalled to listen to the old, balding man so fluent with profanities. That was out of nowhere. As he exited the house for a walk, there was a young lady under his arm. Wait... "Wow, dude's full on cheating on his broad." Dr. Rayleigh said as he took pictures silently. I couldn't help but chuckl
