Amaris and Anna finished their cocoa and decided to go check on Gran. They went back to the tunnel entrance and found the room that she was resting in. Gran was unconscious and had not yet come to." Amaris gently brushed her hair back from Gran's face and put her hand on her forehead. Amaris did not feel a fever. She next reached down to Gran's wrist and checked her pulse. It felt steady and it comforted Amaris. She stared down at gran and Anna put and arm around her and gave a squeeze. They stood like that for a few minutes. They could hear voices out in the hall. Anna lifted her head off of Amaris' shoulder. "We need to get her looked at. She should be awake by now." Amaris said. Anna looked at her and worry was written all over her face. The girls decidied to see what they were going to do about getting some medical help for Gran, Walking back to the door the door way, the girls saw Lyle along with Anna’s parents talking animatedly out in the hallway. Amaris and Anna ca
The kiss was ended as quickly as it was begun. Anna’s father burst in the room. “Adam and his men are hunting around outside for the entrance. I spread the deer sign around as you said to try and throw them off, but I don’t think it is working. They know we are here. “. He said in an out of breath whisper. He clearly had just come back inside from scouting. Lyle had pushed away from Amaris and was now holding just her arms. “Okay get the stretcher ready and tell them to be ready to move.” Anna’s father turned and left. Lyle walked to the corner of his room and pushed on a section of wall. A large hidden door popped open to reveal a hidden space. Inside were two large backpacks. “I wanted to be ready in case you and I needed to escape quickly. I knew there would be people that would want you for their own purposes. These packs have food, water, a change of clothes, and first aid kits. I don’t have packs ready for the rest of them but we can see what we can find down here for them. Furth
Amaris had no idea where their final destination was. They had been on the water for several hours. The sun was high in the sky by this time. They would simply look like tourists to any on lookers except for the fact that none of them had any safety gear on. No helmets, no life jackets, nothing. They only had their backpacks and their paddles. Lyle seemed to have a destination in mind. He led with Gran and Continued without stopping. Anna and Amaris both had paddles, but since the river at this time of year was low and therefore fairly tame they did not have too much to do. There had not been much for rain in a while. Finally they came to a wide bend in the river and a huge sand bar in the center of the curve. It appeared that in times of heavy rain or in the spring thaw this was under water but the rest of the time it looked like it was a favorite play ground for the local otters. There were hundreds of foot prints up and down the sand.Lyle pulled his kayak off here onto the sand and
The rain started in heavy and kept falling. At first it was a pleasant sound to sleep to, but the relentless pounding, in the end, woke everyone. After a while their convenient sand bar started to get wet. As the water rose it started coming up through the floor of the tent. Amaris began feeling cold and within moments realized that she was getting wet. "The tent is getting wet on the inside too." Amaris said sitting up suddenly. Amaris and Lyle scrambled up as they heard the cries of surprise from the others in the other tent. Looking around the tent they could see that the water was starting to rise and they soon realized that they too were starting to flood. They could no longer stay here. Lyle grabbed the two backpacks that were at their feet and handed one to Amaris. “Fit everything that you can in these. If you come across anything that is waterproof that we could put over Gran, hold it aside. We will need it to move her out of here.” Amaris grabbed everything she could we
Amaris was now in a panic. Not only did she need to get out of the river, but the only one there to save her was someone that she did not know. The tent was beginning to sink as the weight of the water filling it was pushing it downward. The ropes had become so tangled around Amaris’ feet in the water that it was making it hard for her to kick to stay afloat. There was no one else in sight. If she did not let this wolf pull her out of the water she would drown. She had no choice but to trust the wolf and hope that it was just some wandering wolf that came across her by chance and was willing to risk its life and jump into the river to try and save her.She swam as hard as she could with the weight of the ropes on her. Her efforts were not gaining her much ground. The wolf pulling her was strong and did not faulter. It was pulling hard on the back of her jumpsuit in the direction that it had come from. Amaris decided that it would be better to just get out of the river and then sort
Amaris sucked in a breath. She never dreamed that Marco was helping Adam. “But then Gran contacted me and told me to find you. She said that you were in the river and to get you safe. They will meet us there.” Marco continued unaware that Amaris’ heart rate had just spiked in fear. “Gran is awake?! Where are they? Is everyone else ok?” Marco looked at her questioningly. “I do not know. Gran contacted me in a dreamscape and told me to take you to my hunting cabin. I built it a few months ago and Gran is the only other person who knows where it is.” Marco explained.“A dreamscape? What is that?” Amaris asked curious. There were so many things in this new world that she knew nothing about. “I will let her explain it to you since she is the witch. Come. We need to get moving. “. Marco waved her on and then walked into the forest. Amaris was still frozen in her spot. What did he mean Gran was a witch. Did he mean a literal one? Marco stopped again and turned back to Amaris. “We need to
Anna bounded into the bathroom and gave Amaris a big hug. Amaris was so relieved and happy to see her that she nearly crushed her with the hug that she gave her. “Your alive and safe!” Anna gushed as she pulled back from Amaris. “Why didn’t you message me?” Amaris looked at Anna funny “What do you mean? I was washed away by the river. I don’t even have a clue where my phone is.” Shaking her head no, Anna raised her hand and pointed to her head “You know, the telepathy thing. It came in handy before I figured you would be able to use it again.” Amaris stood still not sure what to say. She had not even thought about it after that moment of panic in the river. “I’m sorry, I was so caught up in trying to get untangled and get out of the river before I drowned that I did not even think to link you back and let you know that I was safe. Once Marco got me out we headed here as fast as we could. We were trying to avoid anyone else out in the woods. I guess I was too focused on trying to liste
He waves Lyle over, and Amaris follows behind too. Marco turns back to his computer monitor but scoots his chair to one side so that Lyle can take a look. It was video footage from a camera. The footage was grainy, black and white, and was from a camera mounted high up but you are still able to see that the man on the screen is Adam. He appeared to be waiting for someone. After a few seconds, a dark colored car pulls up and rolls down the window. It was a woman at the wheel. Adam bent down and kissed her. They spoke for a few minutes. The conversation became an argument, and the woman sped off without any warning. Marco rewound the video and played it again, but slowed it down to the part where the woman’s face was the most visible. He froze the screen and asked Lyle “Do you know her?” As he brought up an enlargement of her face. Amaris gasped and put her hand over her mouth. Anna and her parents had now come over to see what they were looking at. Anna spoke first, pointing to the scre
