LOGINAria's POV
Selene looked at me for quite some time, she opened her mouth to speak severally but all those times, she failed and no word came out of her mouth. I could feel her confusion, her nervousness and a degree of suspicion that had settled in her eyes. Finally, she said, in a very low, sort of timid, voice, “Aria, who was the father?” My stomach twisted. I took deep breaths , trying to keep a calm mind but my mind was soaring. I would have sworn that I could hear my heart thumping in my ears. When her phone rang I opened my mouth and could not say anything when she looked at it. "It's Lyra. I'll just--" “Take it,” I said to her , hoping she would go away and leave me to myself a few minutes. After hesitation, she nodded and left the room and the silence of the room was thrust upon me. I looked at the doctor. "How-how?" He looked up in his books and said, “I will tell you about six weeks.” He replied and answered the question in spite of the fact that I could not complete it. My breath caught. Six weeks. Six weeks ago I had slept with Lupin. My heart sank and my palms were soaked with sweat and I tried to keep a noncommittal face. There was no going back. I should not, could not say his name. "Are you good?" The doctor asked and I nodded. He left the room without another word. Before I could utter another word Selene returned, and closed the door behind her. "Sorry about that.... whose baby is it Aria? Ronan?” My throat was parched, I swallowed with difficulty. I could not say that to her--not Ronan but Lupin. Not now. Not once, could I have desired to shatter everything to bits. I shook my head and smiled meekly. Her eyes widened. "What? Are you sure?" "I... I must be, I said in a voice which could not be heard. "Doctor said at least, 10 weeks." Selene's face fell. "Damn! We need to tell the adults. We have to tell someone. Your mother, maybe, somebody to figure this out.” I said nothing yet I could feel the weight of my lie sinking on me. "Is it okay for me to go home?" I asked. “I will just go meet the doctor and ask him whether you can go.” Selene said and left the room. She returned a few minutes later with the doctor who examined me one more time and then discharged me. There was a silence on the ride home, complete with a sort of tension that was indescribable. A sense of the weight of the secret pressing upon me fell on me as we entered the house. Lyra and her mother were the first people we saw as we stepped in. "How are you dear?" Her question was full of concern. "I'm fine." I managed to reply. "Aria told me...." She mumbled as I took my seat. I could only give her a small smile as I was curious who would come next. The next to hear was Ronan. The mother of Selene resolved to tell him the news. "Ronan, trust you are good." "I'm good mom, what happened?" He asked. Elowen paused a moment and then sighed. "You're going to be a father. Aria's... carrying your baby ." She wasted no time, beating around the bush. The silence was so lengthy along the line, and then Ronan sighed sharply. "I'll book the next flight back home." The next call was to my mother. I heard her harsh voice instantly, and she was already about to warn me. "Aria? What happened?" I didn't speak. Selene answered her, slowly explaining to her how it all happened. My mother reacted promptly and harshly. “I am getting the next flight, I said. "You listen to me, Aria. You will not make a disgrace of yourself and my family . You will marry him. I warned you about this. Keep out of the way of Pre-marital sex--do you remember I told you? You cannot be careless." I opened my mouth, to protest, but she had gone on before I could speak. “You ought to be thinking of your future, of your reputation and this child your carelessness brought about. You will do as I say. You are going to be married to Ronan who is the father. I felt tight in the chest, my head circling. I tried to speak. "Mom... I--" "No arguments!" she snapped. No mistakes of this kind would be treated lightly by me. You should have known what would come since you decided to not listen to my word.” My hands were clasped to my sides and I choked. "But you don't understand..." “I understand everything, Aria. You need discipline. You need guidance. And you will do as I say." She cut me off rudely. My heart raced. I opened my mouth again, and tried to say something that would make her understand, and that Ronan was not the father, it was Lupin. But the words got in my throat. I couldn't say them. Not now. Not ever. "I..." "Enough," she interrupted. "You will marry him. That's final." I sat on the nearest chair, captive, overwhelmed with all my choices I made in the past several weeks. The lie was bigger than I was now, and the consequences were all round me now. “Take her to her room.” Elowen said and Selene nodded, holding my hand as she walked me to my room, quietly. “Do you need anything?” She asked but I nodded in reply, after some time, she left me all alone. Finally, I said to myself, and with little or no audibility: I have no choice... I must marry him. And then, almost, the second thought followed, and still more difficult, But how can I marry a man, and carry his father’s child in my womb? What will be the consequences of the revelation? "Aria... are you inside?"Lyra’s POVI already had enough. The information she possessed was insufficient for full disclosure but it provided enough understanding. All knowledge surpassed all other things.I gained the ability to track her activities.I would destroy her.Her mind would suffer a complete breakdown. They conducted their discussion inside the living room space.Selene showed her highest achievement through her document organization skills while she started a notebook and placed her phone down which contained planner and decorator and caterer contacts.Ronan sustained his typical composure while he displayed excessive tranquility through his actions.Aria faced them from her seat. The room stayed silent. The girl looked dead in color while she needed to hold on to her regular appearance.I took the seat right next to her.Deliberately.She became rigid at the moment I arrived.Good.Selene began to speak by clapping her hands softly. “Today we need to finalize the venue and guest list and food pr
Aria’s POVI started avoiding them. Not in an obvious way—at least, I hoped it wasn’t obvious. I just… withdrew. Little by little.Dinner?“I’m tired.”Family time in the living room?“I have a headache.”Even breakfast, sometimes, I skipped it entirely and stayed in my room until I was sure Lyra had already left the table. At the start, nobody showed any signs of doubting my story.Selene would knock gently and ask, “Are you okay?”I’d respond with a quiet, “Just tired,” and she would accept it.But Lyra?Lyra was watching everything.I heard their voices downstairs. The sounds included laughter, the clinking of plates, and people who were talking at a low volume. Normal. Everything sounded so painfully normal. I lay on my bed fully dressed while I stared at the ceiling. I hadn’t even turned off the lights. I lay there with one arm across my stomach while my fingers pressed down on it to feel something. Six weeks. My throat became tight. Three weeks. The gap which existed in
Aria's POVI sat on the very edge of my bed that Tuesday morning feeling completely drained and on edge after barely getting any sleep at all the night before, my hands trembling slightly as I clutched my phone so tight in my lap that my knuckles turned white. The echo of Lyra's threatening words from yesterday outside my bedroom door kept playing in my mind without stopping. "You were alone with Dad six weeks ago. Not Ronan. The truth needs to be spoken before I find out the truth. The woman already possessed too much knowledge and she advanced toward discovering all the secrets which I had worked so hard to maintain hidden from others. The wedding rehearsal loomed just hours away now and thick tension filled the entire house like a massive storm cloud about to break open and pour down destruction on us all. I needed to share this heavy burden because I could not handle it by myself anymore. Selene remained my best friend through everything despite the lies that kept increasing betwe
Lyra's POVMy bedroom floor became my pacing space after I completed a face-to-face confrontation with Aria. My mind raced with pure anger and rock-solid determination like I had never felt before in my life. Her face had gone completely white as a sheet when I threw the truth right in her face about those exact six weeks she spent alone in this house and she had just stood there frozen like a statue without managing to say even a single word back to me in her own defense. The silent moment between us brought me complete knowledge because she proved herself guilty through her fear of me exposing her entire fabricated story. With each passing hour of the wedding countdown the sound of the clock became louder. The time had arrived to begin working on my plan which required me to collect actual evidence that would bring about her total destruction to all important people who existed. I locked my bedroom door after making sure no one could enter my room. I pulled my desk chair out from un
Aria's POVMy body woke up that Monday morning with tight stomach anxiety which made sitting up in bed impossible for me. My prenatal checkup appointment was my only obligation that day which I had to attend because I could not cancel or reschedule it. The doctor's appointment which I had been anticipating since my first positive pregnancy test announcement was scheduled two weeks after the office arranged it. The current time was already 7:30 AM according to my quick time check. The house remained quiet because everyone else slept which created an opportunity for me to leave home without anyone seeing or hearing my departure. I needed to keep my actual hospital visit reason hidden from all of them. Family members who do not belong to my immediate family will regard this appointment as a standard medical examination for a small health issue. I left my bed area with great care to avoid making any noises that might disturb someone who was asleep near me. I stood still for a moment to to
Lyra's POVI woke up early that Sunday morning with my phone already clutched tightly in my hand showing all the photos I had taken at the boutique the day before. The pictures served as perfect evidence for my requirements. The baby cannot be Ronan's based on her claims. The timeline made it impossible to ignore, 6 weeks and I know what happened six weeks ago. Dad had been home alone with her for that entire week when Selene was away visiting Mom. Excitement flooded my body when I sat up in my bed. The beginning of rumors required me to take stealthy action. The people in the room needed to show me their reaction to her story because I wanted to observe who would start to doubt her. The wedding date approached too soon for me to launch my first direct attack. people needed to start questioning everything which they believed to be true.I got dressed quickly in jeans and a simple t-shirt before heading downstairs to the kitchen. After I sat down I joined my sister Selene at the table.
