Chapter: The Lie(2)
Aria's POVSelene looked at me for quite some time, she opened her mouth to speak severally but all those times, she failed and no word came out of her mouth.I could feel her confusion, her nervousness and a degree of suspicion that had settled in her eyes. Finally, she said, in a very low, sort of timid, voice, “Aria, who was the father?” My stomach twisted. I took deep breaths , trying to keep a calm mind but my mind was soaring. I would have sworn that I could hear my heart thumping in my ears. When her phone rang I opened my mouth and could not say anything when she looked at it. "It's Lyra. I'll just--"“Take it,” I said to her , hoping she would go away and leave me to myself a few minutes. After hesitation, she nodded and left the room and the silence of the room was thrust upon me.I looked at the doctor. "How-how?"He looked up in his books and said, “I will tell you about six weeks.” He replied and answered the question in spite of the fact that I could not complete it.

Chapter: Collapse and Revelation
Aria's POV.Weeks passed, and somehow life was brought down to normalcy. Back to school, and study, days flowing together with lectures, homework, and small talk at dinner which required fake smiling which I was now perfect at. When Selene asked me about my well being I said that I was fine. It was easier than explaining why I always felt so heavy in my chest, why always seemed to be tired, why my mind constantly kept going back to the same things I could not find myself to mention. That afternoon Selene and I were sitting facing each other at the school cafeteria. There was a lot of noise, students interrupting one another, trays banging on tables, laughter going up and down in intermittent bursts. It was curiously reassuring, as though the world had not been slipping under my feet in the same manner that it had been slipping under my head.“I am glad,” I said and shook a drink in front of me although I did not intend to drink it.Selene lifted her eyes at the food which she was ea

Chapter: The tension
Aria's POV Dinner was heavier than it should have been.Lupin sat at the table head and his mate (the mother of Selene) sat next to him.He was even healthier than he had been a few days ago. Stronger. He was now his color, his shoulders were straight, his face was not so serious. He still loved this woman! It hurt more than I expected.“This is beautiful, you kids have really outdone yourselves,” said the mother of Selene, looking at the dishes, and smiling at Selene. "You both did a great job."Selene cheered up. "We tried to make it special.""Not we, me!" Lyra, the younger sister of Selene hissed. She remained very rigid in her chair, with her hands crossed, and her eyes on her plate, as though she could burn a hole in it. She hadn't touched her food."Lyra," Lupin said gently. She lifted her head slowly. Her eyes didn't go to him. They went straight to me.“No, we did not make this food, I was the only one who did,” she thought coolly. The air shifted instantly.Selene frowned

Lupin froze behind me.“I will get it,” I said after the fourth knock. I did not waiting to hear his answer. I quickly got dressed and opened the door ajar enough to squeeze through it and entered the corridor. I closed the door after me and locked it before Selene could say another word. She frowned immediately.“Oh, I was not, I was not expecting you back.” I said, grabbing her hand , attempting to drag her out of the place.“Why are you locking your door?” she said.I forced a smile. "I was cleaning. I did not want the wind to blow everything about” She raised an eyebrow. "Since when do you do that? And why do you look so...so rough." I laughed, too loudly. "Since always."“I was looking for Dad, “ she said, having given me a long look. "I checked his room. He's not there."I swallowed. "He... um. He was in the garden earlier. That's the last place I saw him."Her eyes narrowed. "The garden?""Yes," I said quickly. "He said he wanted fresh air."She hesitated, then shrugged. "O

Chapter: Blurred lines
Aria's POV“A little bit of this… and that.” I mumbled as I sprinkled seasoning into the food. Selene had left to visit her mom and I was to take care of her dad Lupin, who sprained his ankle two days after she left. I had been wearing skimpy shorts and a thin tank top so as to beat the summer heat. It is just moment, that my mind wandered to Lupin. He was so friendly ever since I joined the family as an exchange student- he had opened his doors to me and taken me as a part of their pack and family. For years, I had been in love with him. It was my nasty secret and it made me masturbate at night and fantasize how it would feel with his hands instead of mine. "Damn! That man fine." I mumbled.“Hm.” I heard the sound of someone clearing his throat right behind me.I turned and there he was in my back and much closer than I imagined. A gasp caught me off guard and a blush rose up my cheeks, and my heart skipped a beat. His eyes fell upon my curves, lingering a little too close on

Chapter: The First Move
Selene’s POV“When we get home.” Came my reply. The ride back home was silent. One hand of Ronan was on the steering wheel and the other was lying at ease in a position close to the gear shift. The car windows were flashing with the city lights passing by and then becoming invisible in the darkness again. I was sitting in the passenger seat, and I was trying to contain the storm that was in my chest, staring ahead. My hands were yet trembling. It was still possible to hear Liora playing her songs. Her voice singing my songs.Every word. Every melody. All the lines that I had written by myself in my little apartment years ago when I thought that the world was still fair. She had claimed that she had put her heart into them. I gulp and clenched my hands. Ronan looked at me a moment and got back to the road.“You’re quiet,” he said.I let out a small breath. “I am attempting not to smash something.”He smiled a little like he knew just what I was talking about.“Feel free to smash anyt

Chapter: A New Life Starts
Selene got out of the jail van slowly, with her hands cuffed in front of her, and her head down. The commotion at the main gate, the screaming guards, the screaming prisoners, the banging metal doors--was in her favor. She was pushed to the side door by a guard, feigning a trip and ran the final few feet into the black SUV that was waiting. Ronan Blackwood was driving, and his face was calm as all that had happened was all a part of his plan, to get Selene out whilst making it seem like she escaped from jail. "You made it," he said."I... I can not believe that it worked," Selene whispered, trying her voice. Strong, unbroken now it was clear. "I'm... free?""You are," Ronan Blackwood said. “New identity, new face, new life. But you'll always be Selene but not that Selene. Don't forget that. You enter the world again tonight, you and we start.”Selene's stomach tightened. "I... I don't know if I can do this. I mean it’s one thing saying yes on the hospital bed, and one thing actually

Chapter: PRESENT DAY
“Oh God.” Selene groaned as she opened her eyes, once again in a hospital room.What-“ the words caught in her throat as saw who sat next to her.Ronan Blackwood was sitting there, leaning back in a chair beside the bed. His pose was composed, calm and controlled, the calm that might be frightening. He was smartly dressed, clean, and slightly scented with cologne. His eyes were fixed, and he stared at her, and Selene felt, as she had not felt in months, a kind of recognition, not fear.Ronan Blackwood bent a little, and put both his hands on his knees. Selene, he said in a low voice, his voice was measured. "You're awake."Selene attempted to move, attempted to push herself up, but her weakness pulled her down at once. "Wh... why..." Her voice was sharp and jagged, as metal rubbing metal together. The words were hardly discernible.Ronan Blackwood held up a hand. "Relax. You're safe. I came to see you."Selene's eyes widened. She remembered him. Her husband's best friend. The individu

Chapter: FLASHBACK( Years ago before she got to jail)
Selene was sitting on the couch in the mansion’s living room, holding her phone, her leg trembling slightly due to habit. She had been rehearsing a song. Her phone suddenly rang. She stared at the screen. Unknown number... but from LA.She replied promptly, and her heart was racing. "Hello?"The voice of a man came through calm and professional. "Is this Selene Rivers?""Yes, this is Selene."“This is Viktor Hale, the manager of A-list artist Kaelara Storm. We heard your demo. Kaelara loves your tone." He paused. "We want you to open her tour."Selene's breath caught. Her hand fell over her mouth."Me?" she whispered. "Yes. Very shortly, the tour begins, and we want to know whether you are interested. We will require you to come to our office today in case you are. And we will take care of paper work and rehearsal schedules.” The man said."Yes! I'm interested--absolutely!""Good. You can get in within an hour, that would be good.” He said.“I will. Thank you very much for this

Chapter: Out of the picture
Selene was escorted back to her prison room by two guards, with her hands cuffed in front of her. Her legs were weak. Every step felt heavy. No baby. No voice. No comfort. Just the same concrete walls. The whispers began immediately the guards took off the handcuffs and pushed her forward into her cell."There she is.""1165 is back.""She came back empty-handed."“Where is the baby?”Some prisoners came nearer, smiling. Selene lowered her head and headed towards her ward. She didn't want to hear them. She wanted her bed. She would like to go to bed and pretend that the world was not there. But prisoners did not mind how she felt.A tall inmate who had braided hair walked in the way of Selene. “I heard you knocked out a dead one,”she said, and everyone could hear her. Some other person came in. "Could not even bring something useful in the world.” Laughter followed.Selene said nothing. She walked around them.“She cannot speak,” somebody sneered, and made a guttural noise wi

Chapter: The Beginning of her end
It was late in the afternoon. The air was filled with sweat, old concrete as prisoners walked around the yard whilst armed guards kept an eye on them. Selene did not raise her eyes and sat quietly. She didn’t want trouble. She couldn’t afford it. Not with the baby coming soon. There was a crack of noise which broke into the yard.“You stupid liar!”Two prisoners leaped at each other, and punched each other with fists. Very quickly a crowd was formed, cheering and shouting.Guards shouted on the tower, though they did not come running down. Fights like this were common.Selene didn’t move from her spot. She was leaning on the fence and stroking her belly. She wanted to stay invisible. She would have liked the day to go by without people noticing her.But the quiet ones were always found in trouble.Heavy feet were scraping the ground behind her. Selene stiffened. She did not have to turn around to tell who it was.Liora Voss.A broad-shouldered, tall, tattooed woman with anger in her
