She stiffens. “Excuse me?”

“Don’t sit there and lie to me…again,” I warn. “You knew they’ve been sleeping together, right?”

“I don’t kn—”

Her eyes widen when I grab her jaw, and I look into them. “Please, don’t hide it. Don’t lie to me, Eira.”

Blue eyes. Almost transparent, like the line between the sky and the waters. Like Eira Quinn’s eyes.

“I…” her throat bobs on a swallow as she whispers. “I didn’t know until when I went to the lake.”

The truth swirls in her orbs, and I let my hand fall. “You saw them.”

It’s not a question so she doesn’t respond. She averts her eyes from me, and I look toward the forest.

“I never saw them, but it wasn’t hard to figure out why my beta has scents of my Luna, and why my Luna has scents of my beta.”

Forty-One: Wolf Is OutEIRAThe whole table goes silent, and my heart actually stops for one long minute.“What?” My voice is barely a whisper, pulse thumping frantically.Cassian rises to his feet. The pain evident in the way his face is contorted, jaw tight and eyes laced with so much disappointment.“You’re Eira Quinn,” he scoffs. “You’re my mate…and…and you knew.”My mouth goes dry, cold sweat runs down my back.“Your Majesty—”“No!” He snaps at Alpha David. “You all knew! You all sat there, mocking my cluelessness, my naivety, while pretending to give a shit about me.”“It wasn’t like—”Cassian raises his hand, glaring at the Alpha. “Did you or did you not know?”“It wasn’t our place to—”His hand comes down hard on the table. “Answer the damn question, David! Did you or did you not know?”If there was silence before, this time it’s deafening. Cassian is pissed, extremely so.And that’s all the answer he needs. His glare cuts to me, and tears burn the back of my eyes.“I confided

Tongues intertwine. Skin to skin.Soft, pale skin. Her hair spreads across the pillows like snow. Small face…she’s gorgeous.I push between her spread thighs. Her hands claw at my back and arms, whispered moans echo in my ears.My fangs lengthen to mark her but I don’t.I see the expectation in her eyes, but I can’t do it, because I know who she is.An omega, not fit to rule by my side. The first tear rolls down her cheeks as she realizes, and goddess, it hurts my heart. Thirty-Eight: The BookEIRA“We need to talk, Eira dear,” Esme says after inspecting Kael. Her face is solemn, lips curled downward. My heart lurches. “W-what is it?”She closes the dark blinds, and sits beside me on the bed. Her behavior increases my panic, my heart racing.“You dyed his hair,” she murmurs, patting my arms. “Kael is an Alpha, and we’ve heard the rumours. The white hair.”I swallow thickly. “What are you saying, Esme?”“I’m saying he needs his hair to remain white, Eira. And yours too.”With a sigh, she walks over to one of her cupboards and returns with a thick brown leather book, strings of twine wrapped around it.When she slaps and blows on it, I choke on the dust, my eyes watering. I look over at Kael who fell asleep after playing with Asha and Hana.“From all you’ve told me, you said you never experienced the things he’s experiencing. But that’s because your hair wasn’t tampered with.” She opens the book and a roach crawls out.I shriek, jerking my knees to my c

Thirty-Seven: Back HomeEIRAHis strange-colored eyes pierce me, like he’s looking into my soul, seeking out the secrets I try to hide.Slowly, I shake my head. “I’m not running off.”“But you are,” he tsks, but there’s no humour in it. “The child of prophecy must die, you know that right?”He says it like he knows something. I swallow thickly.“What does that have to do with me?” My words come out confident, despite the absolute terror I feel. Before he can respond, Cassian is striding toward me, his jaw tight and eyes hard, and filled with fury.“Are you seriously leaving with Kael? In his condition?” He roars, reaching for Kael.I move out of his reach. “Don’t touch him, Cassian. I’m going to scream.”Surprise flashes across his face. “You just humiliated Lysandra, now you want to humiliate me?”A disbelieving scoff slips past my lips, eyes burning with unshed tears.“I don’t even know why I bother.” I shake my head. I don’t know why I bother with him. After everything that happene

Thirty-Six: Luna-1, Omega-0EIRACassian and Jafeth shut the door behind them, and I’m left with Lysandra and Kael.“Luna, I’m—”She glares, cutting me off. “I don’t need your pity. Take your lowlife self and son, and get out of my room.”Her words prick, it brings memories of the bullying I endured even by fellow Omegas. But that’s not me anymore, I’ve only been trying to accord her the respect as Luna.I press my lips together, and raise a chilling brow. “I have never asked to take your place, Lysandra. The hate you have for me is misplaced.”“So you want to dictate my feelings and thoughts, too?” Her eyes lift to mine, and she scoffs in disbelief. “If this gets out, Eira, I will come for you and not even Cassian will save you.”I snort. “I have no business spreading gossip, no matter how truthful it is. I just want to leave with my son.”“Then leave!” She snaps, arms crossed. “Goddess, since you came here things have gone south.”My eyes lock on hers, and so many thoughts swim in m
