By the time we reached the mansion, the moon had slipped behind a wall of clouds. The guards at the back entrance barely looked up as Colin nodded to them, and I slipped inside, pulling my shawl tighter. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since Nathan appeared.

Colin stopped at the foot of the staircase. “You should get some sleep,” he murmured, voice low but firm.

I managed a nod. “Thank you… for not saying anything.”

He gave a small, half-smile. “I meant what I said earlier, Rain. Some of us don’t bite.”

“Noted,” I said softly.

He lingered a moment longer, studying my face as if trying to read what I wasn’t saying. Then he turned away, disappearing down the hall.

By the time I reached my room, my fingers were trembling. I shut the door quietly and leaned against it, letting the silence wrap around me. My reflection in the mirror looked pale and guilty, my eyes too bright.

I sat on the edge of the bed, mind racing. Nathan saw us. If he told Darius, there’d be questions I couldn’t afford

The clatter of plates and soft hum of chatter filled the dining hall, the scent of roasted meat and freshly baked bread heavy in the air. I tried to focus on chewing, pretending not to notice the sharp glances from Liana and Selene across the table. Maris was in the middle of saying something about one of the visiting alphas when everything in the room seemed to… shift. The air grew heavier. Thicker. Then they walked in. Draven first tall, cold, effortlessly commanding. His dark coat brushed his boots as he moved, power radiating off him in quiet, restrained waves. Daemon followed close behind, his usual lazy smirk tempered by something sharper this morning eyes scanning the room like he could sense danger hiding behind every goblet of wine. And then Darius. His presence hit me last, softer but no less consuming, like warmth and wildfire rolled into one. Three brothers. Three different kinds of danger. And every single head turned when they entered. My breath caught before I co

Maris didn’t move at first. Her eyes darted from my face to the blood smeared along my hem, then down to my bare, dirt-streaked feet. “Rain…” she whispered, stepping closer. “Where are you coming from?” Her voice was low, almost careful. I said nothing. My fingers trembled as I reached to unlace my cloak, pretending not to see the way her nose wrinkled. “And you stink,” she added, half trying to joke, though her voice cracked on it. “What’s that smell?” “Nothing,” I muttered, keeping my eyes fixed on the floor. Maris didn’t buy it. She took another step forward, catching my sleeve before I could slip past her. The movement dragged my arm into the light, and her breath hitched. “Rain—your dress. Is that blood?” I pulled my arm back too fast. “It’s not mine.” That made her go still. Her expression softened into something caught between fear and disbelief. “Then whose is it?” I swallowed hard. “Please don’t ask me that right now.” For a moment, neither of us spoke. The silence

I almost laughed, almost. Then the dizziness hit me again, and I sank to my knees, my breath shaky.Storm’s voice softened a little, like she could feel it too. “Hey. Look to your left. There’s a river about fifty steps from here follow the moonlight.”Automatically, I turned. Through the trees, silver light shimmered over moving water. I stumbled toward it, my bare feet brushing through fallen leaves. The moment I reached the bank, I fell to my knees and plunged my hands into the cold stream. The water clouded red instantly, swirling away into nothing.“Holy hell,” I whispered, staring at the reflection trembling in the ripples. My eyes—my eyes—flashed crimson for a heartbeat before fading back to normal.“Ooh, nice touch,” Storm said, sounding far too pleased. “Bit dramatic, but I like the flair. You’ve got that ‘mysterious deadly she-wolf’ thing going.”I let out a strangled laugh. “You’re enjoying this way too much.”“Hey, I’ve been stuck in your head for years watching you trip o

Their laughter blurred in my ears as they moved through the dark woods, away from the castle’s glow. Every step took me farther from safety, farther from anyone who might notice I was gone. I tried to move, but my body felt heavy, unresponsive. When I shifted my weight, the man carrying me only tightened his grip. “Stop squirming, pretty thing,” he muttered. “You’ll make it worse for yourself. Maybe I could even have a taste of you before we hand you over.” His laughter making me almost puke out my whole dinner. I clenched my jaw, forcing my mind to focus. I couldn’t scream no one would hear me. I couldn’t fight, my strength was fading fast. All I had left was prayer. I closed my eyes, forcing my ragged breath to steady. Moon Mother… please. The words came silent, desperate. I don’t care what I’ve done, or what they say I am. Please, don’t let me die here. Not like this. The forest whispered around me, wind sighing through the trees. For a long, breathless moment, there was not

The air was thick with tension, the kind that clung to skin like smoke. Daemon stood silent beside Selene, his face unreadable, his lips pressed into a hard line as the council waited—waited for him to speak, to accept her offer, to break me in front of everyone. I didn’t realize how tightly I was gripping the edge of the table until my nails cracked against the wood. So that was it, then. They would stand here, in front of half the damn realm, and discuss alliances and Luna titles like I wasn’t even in the room. “Enough,” I said, voice trembling with a rage I could no longer swallow. All heads turned. I stood slowly, every muscle in my body taut, my pulse hammering in my throat. “You want a Luna?” I asked, my voice rising. “Then take one. Take all of them. Maybe one of them will last long enough to survive your throne.” The words fell like thunder in the room. Draven’s head snapped toward me, eyes darkening with something wild. Darius froze mid-breath. Even Daemon’s stoic mask

I froze, my fingers stilling beneath the water as his words sank in. My father. Here. The room suddenly felt smaller, the air heavier. The bathwater that had been warm moments ago now seemed to grip my skin like ice. “What do you mean he’s coming here?” My voice came out low, almost strangled. Caius hesitated by the door, his hand still on the handle. “The Birdsclaw patrols found survivors at the border. Your pack’s territory was attacked two nights ago—rogues, maybe more than rogues. The elders thought it best he join the summit for his safety. He’ll be arriving by evening.” For a heartbeat, all I could do was stare at him. My father—Alpha Corvin—never left the mountains unless something was truly dire. If he was coming here, that meant the damage was worse than Caius was letting on. “Are they alive?” I whispered. He looked away. “Some.” My stomach twisted. The names, the faces—I didn’t even want to think of who some excluded. I gripped the edge of the tub, the w
