Eve’s POV

The night looked as though it had been bleeding. From my window, I stared at the moon hanging low and swollen in the sky, the light from it had turned the forest into shades of crimson. This was what the wolves called the blood moon. I always wondered if it was only a legend but today I worry that it might just be an omen.

“He’s near.”my wolf whispered in what sounded like she was afraid. “Who?” I whispered back, but she only growled.

Outside the grounds had gone restless with the wolves paging around and the guards standing at alert. I heard a few distant howls carrying messages I didn’t understand, I heard Elder Dira who never spoke chanting quietly with a trembling voice.

Then I saw Dorian standing by the end of the corridor, staring out through a narrow window, his eyes gleaming under the red light from the moon.

“Dorian?” I called

He turned to me slowly. “You shouldn’t be out here, Eve.” He said with his skin drained of color. “ Go back inside.”

“What’s happening?”

Eve’s POVDanny didn’t let go of me the entire walk back. His little hand was wrapped so tightly around mine that my fingers tingled, but I didn’t dare shift even an inch. I kept him locked against my side with my free hand, holding him like the world would take him away from me the second I blinked. Malik walked on my other side, close enough that our arms brushed with each step, close enough that I felt his eyes flick toward me every few secondsI felt heavy on the inside, Astrid’s words still rang in my mind twisting like vines, ‘the mark belongs to the heir… my sister… the one who died…’I tried to push it away, tried to keep my focus on Danny’s soft and shaky breath, I tried to stay resent in the moment but I couldn’t shake it all off. We reached Tess’s cottage just as the lanterns flickered to life on the porch. Before we even knocked, the door flew open.Tess stumbled out, her eyes wide and hair disheveled, panic still clinging to her body like a second skin. When she saw D

  • Moonlight Knows My Name    Chapter Ninety-One

Eve’s POV Astrid’s scream sliced through the trees when she finally woke upI thought she was unconscious, she had barely moved after my wolf forced her down. But now she lurched upright with a ferocity that would make one think of insanity. Her eyes were wild and desperate, shining with strange recognition, they remained fixed on the faint markings glowing across my skin.“No,” she choked out. “No, no, no, impossible!”Malik stepped in front of me instantly, a protective wall of muscle and rage. “Stay back,” he growled, voice low and sharp. “You don’t come near her again.”But Astrid barely looked at him. Her entire being stayed stunned as she pointed at me, shaking so violently she had to grip a tree to keep herself steady.“That mark,” she whispered. “That… that mark” Her voice fractured. She gagged on air, as though the words fought her. “it belongs to her.”My stomach dropped, who was she referring to? Malik’s wolf surged beneath his skin. “Enough with the drama, Astrid.” “It’

  • Moonlight Knows My Name    Chapter Ninety

Eve’s POVMalik just stared at me, his chest rising and falling heavily, eyes tracking every shift of light across my silver fur as though he were seeing the moon itself breathing in front of him. His wolf hovered behind his gaze. We had left Astrid’s unconscious body at the forest, through all of it, Malik’s attention was fixed entirely on me.“Eve?” he whispered. “I…goddess, I don’t even know what to say.”I shifted back before he could finish. The world folded inward, pulling my wolf beneath my skin. The fur receded, the markings dimmed but didn’t disappear, they lingered like faint moonlit tattoos across my shoulders, my ribs and my hips. I stood barefoot in the moss, breath shaky, body warm from the remnants of power.Malik took a step toward me then he stopped before talking slow step forward again. His hands hovered near my arms but didn’t settle. His voice broke slightly when he whispered, “Moon-born.”I blinked. “What?”“That’s what you looked like,” he murmured. “Like the

  • Moonlight Knows My Name    Chapter Eighty-Nine

Eve’ s POV At first I didn’t feel the change, all I felt was deep immense anger. It didn’t feel like emotion, it was a pull and a force, it felt deep that every memory I had hoarded it felt older than all my history. Astrid’s words continued ringing in my head, her shrill accusations, her hand pressing hard on Danny’s shoulders. I stared at her frame equally staring at me with anger she did not deserve to feel. It fed the fire I was feeling. Malik moved forward as if to stand in front of me, but something in the air about how I looked must have warned him, because he stopped. The forest went still, so still that even the wind became slow. I heard different voices in my head, I heard Morwenna, my heartbeat thundered once. And then the world snapped. It was as if a wall I never knew existing inside me had shattered. A cold rush shot down my spine, followed immediately by a burning bloom under my skin. I gasped as the ground tilted. My vision blurred, then cleared with unnatural shar

  • Moonlight Knows My Name    Chapter Eighty-Eight

Eve’s POV As Malik and I moved deeper into the forest, my newly awakened wolf pulled at me with urgency. My every step and breath quickened. Danny’s scent was faint but it was strong enough to guide us to him. Malik’s chest rose and fell rapidly beside me. Every now and then, I felt his eyes flick toward me, checking with worry and confusion, but he didn’t slow me down to ask questions, instead he quickened his pace to match mine. A twig snapped ahead of usMy wolf surged.I growled under my breath. “She’s close.”We followed the scent to a clearing lit by shards of moonlight shining through the trees. The moment I stepped into the open space, my feet halted because there she was…Astrid. Her hair was tangled and wild, her eyes glowing frantically. Danny stood behind her, bound at the wrists but unharmed. His face was pale, his lips trembling, but he was alive.Relief washed over me so violently my knees almost buckled.Malik inhaled shakily beside me. “Danny…”Danny tried to run

  • Moonlight Knows My Name    Chapter Eighty-Seven

Eve’s POV The evening sun had barely begun to set when Malik finally felt I was strong enough to call with a wide grin. “We’re calling today, remember?” he reminded me gently.I nodded, the warmth of earlier still lingering in my chest. After the drama of the past days, the thought of speaking to Danny had become both an ache and a comfort. I needed to hear him laugh, I needed to know he was okay.Malik dialed, I listened as the phone rang once and then twice, we kept calling until we lost count No answer…He frowned lightly and tried again but still there was nothing.“Maybe she’s busy,” I offered, even though a small knot of unease had already begun forming in my stomach. He tried one last time, same thing We shared a look that signified a silent agreement that something had gone terribly wrong.Just a few minutes later, his phone buzzed violently in his hand. Tess’s name flashed across the screen.Malik answered immediately.“Tess?”Her voice exploded through the speaker, sh
